The current logo is nice, but it is rather 2D or should I say Flat looking. I would like to see something more up to date, fun, different. I am not asking to have anything spinning or animated in any otter way (It makes me dizzy… ok…. more dizzy lol)
The WGA has come a long way and I think we had already posted a poll about the logo and didn’t get much input. I feel we should go for a change with this idea:
1. Have any and all members of the WGA submit Logo ideas.
2. Depending on the number of submittals, have a first round elimination, votes being submitted by WGA members (not just the BOD).
3. Have the final 3, 4 or whatever #, be placed up for final voting but any and all WGA members, (Not just the BOD).
Possible Issues and Resolutiions to consider:
I. Members don’t know how to get their logo on the site for voting.
R. Easy enough… just ask for help from our local computer Guru’s.I. Are there too few members voting on the site for the logos?
R. Present the Logos at the first WGA event and have voting at the event.I. Participation of logo submittal is low.
R. Possible offer a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prize, to encourage participation.I. “I have an idea, but can’t draw and I am not good on the computer”
R. Just ask in the forum for help… I am sure there are many of us that can help.”This is an area we have been in discussion with in our N.E. W portion of the Forums. We think it is a great idea, but there are issues with the limitations of the adopt-a-highway portion of it. It states on the form, the following:
* NO more than 20 participants shall be allowed to do a clean-up at the same time.
Is this a big deal?? I don’t know for sure, as there probably isn’t as big of a draw of people, especially if they are looking for numbers. It’s about camaraderie, sharing stories and of course EATING afterward!! LOL
The CITO’s are a definate. I would like to see each of the 6 State Regions holding their own CITO. This by no means would mean that as a cacher you had to do JUST your area, but would be able to attend one or all. I know Earthday is a big time for CITO’s but, possibly staggering CITO’s thru the month would be a consideration. Then again… do we really NEED any other reason to have a CITO, if we find an area in dire need!
I think I spoke to you about this in the past Beast. I thought it was a great idea. Of course, it’s getting people to man the booth for the extended time. If it is over my time off or I have time knowing in advance to re-arrange my schedule, I would be there ins a second. I love that kind of stuff!! Of course having at least one WGA BOD member there at all times would be important, then finding other “active” or “new” members would be great.
* Active members offer their enthusiasm for the sport.
* New Members can do the same and share their first time experiences.
Making of a display is easy enough. I currently own one I made up for my classes and events here at Woodland Dunes. This is another thing I enjoy doing immensely…. being creative while offering/sharing interesting information.
I would LOVE to see the kits. The only issue is obtaining them when you need them.. who would be the keeper of the kits so to speak.
It would wonderful to have a general presentation already made up and ready to go. I understand that each of us who hold these classes have different techniques and info to share (i.e. a general GPS usage class), but to have the basics already to go, would be a great help. This way there would be some consisitancy of the teachings yet allowing the for individuality over all.
First.. I want to thank you for creating & having the list available. So far it seems the current methods are working well.
What I would like to see… thought I don’t know the difficulty if this, but I can’t imagine it would be too bad….but having a “Winter or Weather Related Disabled” cache list, separate. I say that because I know there and a number that are disabled due to the locations inaccessibility due to snow or usage, (i.e. hunting.) I currently have one that is disabled due to moisture and being frozen into place, there for it can only be done above freezing, as strange as that sounds.
Having two lists would make the Disabled listing shorter and more manageable for the reviewers and they wouldn’t have to waste time on those that are truly only temporary or over the winter, etc. Though, hopefully those of us who disable do REMEMBER to re-enable.
Plain and simple answer here. If we were able to have them approved, I would get one!!
I am a sucker for stuff like that. Looking at all the info zuma! has available, it may not be something feasible. What we would need to do, like with the coins, is get a count of those who would actually purchase, hold them too it, then and see if it would even balance out. No use jumping into something, if interest is too low or we can’t even BREAK even!!
Ok.. I’m with the rest of ya, since I apparently an too slow to answer here. LOL
The WGA events should be close to mandatory and I strongly encourage getting out to other events. I don’t work every weekend, but it seems that the ones I DO work.. the WGA puts an event on.
The other issue that needs to be reviewed is putting them over a holiday of some sorts. I am a single cacher, my family or what little I have of one here (Mom and Hubby) are not into it. It is difficult to attend an event when family decisions to vacation over holidays pull me away. I know I am a rare exception, since many of you probably bring your families with, but I would hope consideration could be made. If not.. I guess I would have to live with that, but I believe that the WGA would put Family first.
I’m all for it!! The thing is lets DO IT instead of talking about it!!
I, like other candidates state, donating trees, plaques, benches, tables, whatever…. is a great way to promote the WGA and the sport of caching. If we have a donation we wouild like to present, ask the place to be donated to, what they would like.
I do realize there are specs on the benches that parks, etc have, so donating supplies and or/time to build them is an option too. I’m handy with a wrenches or a hammer…. especially on my computer!! (my computer issue resolver when my Guru says there ‘s no help for Da Fu LOL)
It’s all about the numbers!! Aaaaaaaahhhh… I am almost tired of hearing that!! ROFLMBO!! 😆 Where am I.. about 1624 for finds.. I had a few more, but when looking back I found I had already found a couple that I re-found when out with my caching buddies, though the finals were in a different spot. I deleted my logs as to tally appropriately. I think I got around 1000 this past yr, but don’t really remember. Caches placed this year….ummm.. I think 8 and I held 2 large events. Other than that I don’t know. I like remembering my milestones more.. thinking aobut the cache I did and whom I was with when achieving it. I set a goald of 1550 for 12/31/07 and ended up getting 1624 instead.. that was thanks to my buddies for draggin’ my butt out there one more time. LOL
Caching for me is about getting out there and finding “Stuff” I like the more difficult terrains and hides myself. I also enjoy getting new people involved. The Numbers??? Well.. if it were not for Cheesehead Dave and his Awesome new website, I wouldn’t know HALF the stuff I even do. For me and what I personally enjoy working on is increasing the averages on my Difficulty and Terrain and achieving “Platinum Earthcache Master Level”…the highest Earthcache Honor! {{sniff sniff ..tears of joy}} 😀 Well.. the highest honor in MY little head that is. LOL
I give a “YES & A “NO” also, not to just follow suit of a current BOD member, but it depends on the situation.
Bylaws state you must visit and participate in discussion, but it does pay to sit back and watch at times. Sometimes we need to just absorb what others are stating, If there is an even flow to discussion within a forum, just becasue a BOD member is not SEEN on there within that discussion, does not mean they have not visited. A silent eye can be watching and moderating. Is that a good thing??? All depends on the situation. If a forum is getting “Ugly” and no BOD memeber is stepping in.. then there is an issue.
Another issue may be that of illness, though GOD forbid any one of us, BOD or not, be ill that long. Communication to others, whether via forums or private needs to timely, so there is no wonder on where that BOD member is and are they slacking in ther position.
For me…..as a WGA member, I normally check on here numerous times a day, even at work (They haven’t blocked me even though this is a forum.. go figure). My weekends on at work, I often times have the WGA opened all day and observe between patient visits (YES.. my patients still come first). I have had some lag in time on forums, but that was by choice. As a member of the WGA BOD, I would make it part of my daily routine, if no computer issues arise or being pulled out of town with no access (though I am working on getting a laptop soon).
Being a leader means playing many roles. True, you must be able to take a group an move them forward, guiding and teaching along the way, but it also means maintaining your individuality.
In everyday life, I am one whom co-workers come to with questions on how and why things are done. I am one who patients and families come to for answers that I don’t always have, but guide them to other people or places that may contain what they are looking for. As a friend, to them I am one who my friends can come to for a boost of positive attitude or a cheer for what may seem like a small accomplishment, when in actuality it is huge step. when giving that cheer, giving it with sincerity and meaning.
Being an effective leader means being someone who can take the punches, not only LISTEN to what others are say but actual HEAR what they are trying to tell you… an effective listener. One who communicates effectively which means getting on the phone or in person and not trying to decipher emotion and attitude via an e-mail or PM.
Being a leader also means playing Devils Advocate…tossing out there, all the “What’s If’s” and “How come’s”. A role I play at work and in everyday life. It’s great to be able to toss out tons of positives, but it takes one negative to mess up the direction you and your group are working to attain.
Sure… I can spout off what a leader is to me and write it down on here. How can I do that so easily??? Becasue it’s what I believe in and WHO I am.
Had to come back and add a PS…..A good sense of humor is a PLUS for any leader and THAT I do have. When situations get tough or heated, though seriousness is must, so is a good laugh to get tempers back down and realize that we are all human, have different opinions and that the situations we discuss are not LIFE & DEATH, when it comes to the members of the WGA. It might be life & death of the organization, but in reality, the only death issue would be that of Geocaching going away forever and becoming non-exisitant and I don’t see that happening anytime soo. 🙂
We need to find out who/where has the biggest issue, I would think. Might be easier once spring comes to get an idea from area parks, who would need help with a clean up. Easy enough to contact city park or co. park managers to find out the biggest needs.
I woul;d love to say…”Let’s pick _____ Park!” but what I have noticed is that many of them are well kept.
Open for more ideas for sure though!!

Just my 2 cents….
I’d rather go clean up our playgrounds. Parks, Nature preserves, and the like. Than be subject to the crazy drivers on the highways.
Good point Jim!

Two comments: First, I noticed Marc did his usual good job of rehiding the cache 😆
Better yet: The first item on Youtube’s related videos is “When Gorillas Attack!” Maybe thats the one that Brian gets to talk on.
That’s too funny!! LOL 😆 😆 😆

Is it possible to rename this topic “Questions for Candidates: Mega Events” or something akin to that?
The current broad heading will make this a very difficult topic to track once other questions about other topics are asked.Infortunatley.. according to Jeremy.. even he is unable to change the title of a topic” I asked that a while back, BUT…….who knows what he’s got up his sleve these days. LOL
