01/15/2007 at 2:53 am in reply to: Mathman, SirCumference, The Better Half, & Cutie Pi= 500 #1768353Way to go you guys!! (I just love your ID’s too) The first 500 are ut of the way… now on to the MIllenium Mark!!
Congrats to all of you!!
YES.. I can see this happening!! In fact it was about 1 yr ago, when a few of us (Non- BOD members) got together to discuss such an event.
It was not til I went to the GeoWoodstock and heard about the issues that arose with holding such a huge event, that I decided to back off, til I had more information on just how to approach such a MegaEvent.
My feeling is:
Do it RIGHT not half-A’d….or don’t do it at all!! A mega event needs a lot of TLC…..and ideas, I DO have..thanks to the input of a cpl cacher friends South of me. Their efforts won’t go unoticed either!!
Yeha.. what’s up Marc??? Ya hogged the segment ROFLMBO 😆 She must have LIKED you! 😀 😉
But seriously… nice segment. Thanks for posting the web addy. I don’t watch tv so I miss this kinda stuff!!

well the “cave” caved in.. (grins)
……..the Gauntlet was an evolving cache.. just didn’t know it would end up ‘here’.. but can we bury it soon.. it’s been a JOY and a HEARTACHE..
~The Lil Otter
Laurie….. It is one cache I will always remember, especially the SECOND time around; getting to spend time with you, tell stories, share time with fellow cachers and …oh.. yeah having jthorson tend to the fake fire in the firepit! LOL
Anne
I agree.. take a joke already. We laughed about it when we did it. Had a bunch of other caches loaded and did them instead and got to see some great areas, then retreated for a nice meal at a great restaurant. I had more fun making up our story LOL
It’s kinda like attending this GREAT concert of Movie that everyone raves about.. then you find it’s a downer.. SO what!! It’s the experience , the camaraderie, the memories!! I know I’ll never forget out first time doing The Gauntlet!!
Congrats!! Welcome to the millenium club!!
Here’s to 2007 in 2007!!
Good points!!! Thanks for the clarification on that Jeff!!
Makes a lot more sense putting it that way.
The Adopt-a-highway idea was braught up to me also, via e-mail.
It’s nice know that you have done research on this already Jeff….helps with the legwork. I do NOT want to rock any boats, but as I would see it, it should be a joint effort of those in an area and not the decision of the board (as I am understanding you to mean Jeff). We could have the WGA-NEW region taking on a highway area…. not the WGA only. Looking at the requirements, it states that no more than 20 ppl may do clean-up at one time. So, taking that in hand, there would be no reason we couldn’t have a group for our own area. Questions arising:
1. Can this be listed as a CITO event on GC.com, since we are limited to only 20 ppl?
2. The illusive questions about temp caches?Does anyone else have other questions or concerns to add to this list???
Go bandits!! That would be impressive to match Marc by 12/31/07!!!
Happy first 100 to you!!!
I was wondering it those big fuzzy guys were out and about with the nice weather. Tell me their internal alarms aren’t gonna be all messed up this year!! LOL
I did the same thing when going to Florida!! Ended up going with “The Federation” He’s an approver and on one of the boards. Felt safe enough since i had all his info.. phne numbers, etc and left those with my family! Had fun and got some 60+ caches and a parking ticket!! LOL

Another thing to look at is which way you are hooking up the cable. I no longer own an explorist but if I remember the plug on the back of the gps looks like it hooks up one way but it actually hooks up the other way.
maybe someone with an explorist can chime in and say which way it hooks up….. cable down the body of the gps or cable up.EDIT: I think the cable goes down
K!! will ahve to look at that idea too. GEEZ.. nothing like making this simple huh!! LOL thanks for the help.

Did a little research. According to their website, the driver is not required for this unit. With no driver, the GPS should act like a normal USB flashdrive. The driver is only required if you want to use a serial port instead of USB.
Anyway, this means that your PC should connect to the GPS when you plug it in, even if you install no software at all. Try plugging it in, and then after your PC links up, see if it shows up as a drive on the “my computer”. If not, repeat the process on a different computer. If it still doesn’t work, your GPS is probably defective or otherwise broken.
So I should ditch the CD it came with?? I deleted anything related to the program and tried again. I’ll ahve to work on it this weekend. Thanks for the info though!!
