Got My Green Jeep Today, but must have come on Saturday while I was up Nord! Mine came in regular mail!!
07/26/2006 at 1:51 pm in reply to: Ideas for LO’s The Gauntlet Survival Patches/shirts/items #1763868I like the patch and pin idea too, though I never have enough t-shirts.
I think if we do a patch, we should make available, hash marks to represent having done it more that once, since some of us were STUPID enough to torture ourselves more than once, to help out the next group going through. I opted to do it a second time just to see if we could beat our first recorded time. Well…..still make to same mistakes, so time was pretty close. LOL Oh well…. Anyone for a 3rd attempt??
I know… we can make a “Guantlet Guide” patch 🙂
07/24/2006 at 12:28 pm in reply to: Green Bay Press-Gazette: Geocachers deny trashing Appleton p #1763847K0rpl and Beast.. you guys offered the info, but the power of the pen and an editor yelling that the article is too long, rules what actually goes in the paper. Oh yeah… goodness forbid a story should be 100% positive… that’s not interesting 🙄 🙄 🙄
I think the article came out well, you guys did great!!!!! The points were made and they were a Hell of a lot better points than the ones that the alderman made. And yeah.. what beast said… how does he know they were GPSrs???
All in all….the non-geocaching public gets both sides…maybe not as fair as we would have liked, but both sides!!
Way to go and in Canada too!! That will look good on the old state/country caching map! 😉 Congrats!!
I enjoy them, but yes they can be a pain to keep in place. Sometimes the big caches that just jump out at ya can get old. I don’t think nanos are as popular with those who are looking for 50-60 caches in day, because they can slow down the pace.
Bring `em on.. I’m ready for the challenge.
Nano in the woods though???? Ummmm I may just pass !! LOL
As for not being a true cache as mentioned above….I think they are. As long as you can get a log book into it, it’s fair game!!

Just for future placement, you may want to get a few more averages. I do between 150 and 200 way point averages, and check the coordinates by “finding” the cache several times (often on different day). Works for me.

Bec… you gotta invite me out to place caches with you sometime. I’d enjoy watching your technique in action!
I usually do several averages, com and go to the cache from different angles, review how many feet off I am etc., even come back on less cloudy days. Also come in and out of heavy foliage to TRY to get good coords. I’m weird (no comments Marc_54140), but I feel guilty if I my caches are off more than 15 ft. LOL If I get a DNF I feel the urge to go back and RE-average and check on the cache…..I gotta get over that one too LOL
Anyway.. agreeing with MB….people do need to realize that it may be a GPSr issue. I know some GPSrs can be calibrated but can they all? Now I gotta go check mine. On one of my caches, a cacher called me at home and said the coords took him far up on a road, which was actually quite a distance away. I gave him an idea where the WPT was and asked him to get a new set of coords for me. In the mean time, others found it and said the coords were dead on.
So, it can come down to GPSrs issues, the type/brand/quality/age of GPS and if they average at all. The deliberate ones, no way. I have only done one of the NEMESIS caches so far, but the way that #9 is posted it sounds like fair game to me 😀 Need a good challenge once in a while!!
Remember: We can’t please all the people all the time!! 😉
Mine was a not a rant and rave e-mail…. just stated the facts… my frustrations I left to post here ROFLAMO
I’ll be down there with Digital Dan on Friday evening, but not sure about the camping yet. It seems my hubby had loaned out our 2 tents and those people to whom we loaned them decided to loan them to someone else, without asking. guess they figured since he have a place up north we wouldn’t need a tent?? so go lend it out??? Some peoples children..I’ll tell ya.
anyway.. as of this time, we are still trying to get the tents back, but might have to Trudy camp this one. We will DEFINITELY be there for the campfire camaraderie though.
See ya there!!
I too have sent an e-mail to the reporter. I wrote about the issues of pulling flowers up and that it states specifically that aches are NOT to be buried and that I don’t feel these were cachers damaging the park. this alderman needs to “Get a life”.
I also stated to the reporter that there doesn’t seem to be an issue with how this park is treated in the winter, having literally TONS of snow plowed and packed into the trees.
I have contacted the greenhouse and offered a donation for towards the flowers and I told the reporter that I would like that KNOWN!!!
I don’t read newspapers for the very reason that there is hardly anything good in some of the birdcage liners. I want something GOOD published!!!
😡 One fluffed Fu!!
Thanks for all the ideas, as I am trying to put together a route out to NY and back.
I enjoy and collect cachers wooden Personal ID coins. Other than that.. depends on the item.[/b]
Congrats to those who hit milestones.
Did the Ice Cream survive though??!!
Zoooom zoooom zooooom Zuma.. well on your way to 3000. Congrats!
Waaahooo.. Congrats and welcome to “Da Cub”
Question:
What if you disable your cache for the winter, with full intent of making it active once the snow/ice leaves?? Will this be written in as a exception??
