Welcome to the sport and the group!! We’re a fun group of people for sure. At least I think so LOL
Even if you don’t post, this is a great place to find events and goings-on around the area, a little more so that GC.com, so come by and see what’s happening and let us know how we can help you out!
I own a bug hotel too. I filled mine with bugs from all around. Not necessarily from other hotels, but from other caches. I think they are a great place for people to meet up and find TBs that need help getting further on their missions. Sure….it’s nice having a bunch to choose from in there, but if people wan to take one without leaving one, they can.
I also leave trade items in mine, so that those who may want to follow suite, but don’t have a TB, they can at least have somethig to trade out. I do this moreso for the lil kids. Their lil hearts are broken if there isn’t SOMETHING in there for them to trade.
Thanks to all who participted… had a great turnout. A few new cachers were born today!! Thanks to Marc_54140 for teaching all the ins and outs of paperless. I am sure I’ll still have questions. LOL

Be carefull…I’ll be hoppin’ behind ya trying to shove $$$ in your pockets!! LOL
Sounds like a plan…I guess at this piont why not try a variety of things and see what works!! Thanks for the idea!!

First of all… let me say “WELCOME” to the forum and thanks for jumping into the discussion!!
Great input also!! I don’t think it is a matter of liking or disliking the PERSON, but rather HOW they come across in forum. I don’t agree 100% with things my caching partner comes up with but I don’t dislike `em!! I almost feel a sense of frustration more than anything.
If I may not actually KNOW a person(s) who is/are the type to constantly jump all over others comments, it certainly doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to take the time to actually MEET the person(s) and discuss stuff face to face. A lot of misunderstandings can get cleared up that way.
The problem?? Many people are not like me and can get scared away from forums with a so called “Rough Crowd” Not that I THINK we all are a rough crowd!! LOL Not by any means!!
WGA members and non-members of whom I have actually MET…. they are a pretty cool group of cachers and people in general!!
And Team DeeJay, Green Bay Paddlers, EnergySaver & NSLP#1 “RIGHT ON!!”

Moderation is a good thing: in eating in exercising and in guiding forums, but you would think it wouldn’t be necessary if people would be more mature while utilizing the forum. I know I know.. freedom of speach! Can’t contol it.
This is a place for “DISCUSSION” and we all need to remember that…not a place to nag and back-stab over comments made by others.
If I were new to this forum or to a forum in general and read through some of the threads and saw how SOME people {Not ALL} treat others comments, I’d High-tail it right outta here!!
There is enough negativity in the world. It would be nice to know there was a sactuary of Adult conversations somewhere and pertaining to something we all enjoy – Caching!!
Meet a number of the Iowa cachers at an event there. Nice bunch.. hope they are not havng the issues we are, but will have to go take a peek and see what’s what on their forum! Thanks for the info!!

I highly respect people’s right to their opinion. Perhaps you could email the person back and share what you like about the forums and how it has benefited you. Your positive feedback may change their perspective (if they are open to changing it, that it. You can’t force the issue if they have formed a permanent decision).
I’m getting way too “self-help book” aren’t I? Okay, whatever. I’m done for now!
Smile!

Hey Bec!! GREAT points you have there and all very true. I, too, respect individuals opinions, but the problems arises when you get attacked for making your own opinions, which then can reflect negatively on the forum. Newbies come in…see b_tching & back stabbing in the forums and and it can turn them away. It has done that with veteren WGAers also. I agree… have an issue, please feel free to e-mail me and leave it OUT of the forum. A big problem with writing in a forum, or on a messenger program or even an e-mail, is that people tend to take comments wrong, because the person leaving it isn’t there to actualy hear and explain if there are questions. {Hope that makes sense}
Getting back to the “joining into the WGA” issue, whether there are things we personally LIKE or DISLIKE, I would say it is best to suggest to a newbie, to “take the site for a test drive for a while”. If they like it, they like it and stay, if they don’t like it they can always leave!! RIGHT???
I would have to say that it is up to each of us, as ACTIVE members of the WGA, to promote a POSITIVE and informative experience and to DROP the scarasm and the 3 B’s!!
My 2 cents for the nite!

#1 – The WGA doesnt make up the rules. We are not a governing body….If you need to charge a few bucks to break even for hosting an event, then it would be wise to indicate that on the event page.
If you are charging a fee, explaining the need for a fee on the cache page could help speed up the approval process.
#2 – I don’t think that posting events only on the WGA site would draw in more members. It does however give some the opportunity to post an event that might not meet the GC.com guidelines.
Excellent points GT!! Thanks for answering!! We did mention on the cache page that a small fee will help with the cost of the room. Use of the room is a cost to the facility, therefore $$ received are not a profit.
Can’t say I agree OR disagree with the listing of classes being on the WGA only becasue I don’t really KNOW and that’s why I asked. What’s important to one may not be that important to others.
I do understand the WGA does not govern over listings and the Reviewers do make decisions/suggestions, but they can influence where stuff SHOULD go.
The questions I posed are of those darn “What if” statements. And like I said… I don’t have an answer, so I come to all of you and ask them. I’m NOT going to argue either way, because it’s a personal oppinion for each and everyone who chooses to answer. MAYBE it will give more insight on what People feel is important in a website and maybe it will bring in more membership???? Maybe NOT Dunno!!!
This is WHY I split off and sent the questions over to the Suggestion Box, because it feels like the subject has turned in another direction. I didn’t want to cause any grief. Now I think no matter what I would have done, I would have Ticked SOMEONE off somewhere!!
Thanks to all for your feedback – positive and negative. It’s what creates ideas and stimulates imagination and conversation!

2. This is a slight catch 22 here. Listing classes on WGA only helps WGA members and how many times does a WGA member need to take classes to do what they are doing. (Rhetorical question don’t answer it).
True…the news reports and papers refer to GC.com. When learning about something new, people often times want just the MAIN info (GC.com) and passively miss other information (WGA.com). I admit.. I do that all the time “Just give me the info I NEEEEEEEED!!” LOL
So, we get a lot of new cachers every month but it would be interesting to so how many join on the WGA each month. Is there a way to monitor both easily??? Might be an interesting to have listed on our site…
xx New Wi cachers
xx New WGA cachers…or maybe not. For me it’s something interesting to watch and if those new people are NOT signing up, I’d be more than happy to participate in a “Welcome Wagon” of such, dropping an FYI to them about the WGA and its importance.
pcFrog as for your Rhetorical Question… Ya got a point there!! Maybe there is no answer.
{edited because my spell chech didn’t catch one of the words…}

These are questions based on MEMBERSHIP issuse MB.
We need to get more people involved with the WGA. So… how are we going to get more people invovled?? Will having these lisitng bring more people into the website and if not, how what else can we??
I have heard NUMEROUS people state that they have no reason to join the WGA.. there is nothing here of “Use or Interest” So NOW is our chance to get something of use and interest to increase the #’s.
Well MB I hate to differ with you BUT the Approvers CAN decide if they will no longer approve classes AS Events….that’s NOT up to GC.com. That is even if no one ever charges for them again or not!! I have seen some interesting things that Other state approvers have and have not approved in many other states. A class is a class an event is an event.
End of story on the charge issue already!!
No charge…deal with it and Buck up if you get stuck with the bill!!!
I still have the questions I posted in the “suggestion box”, which MB has so graciously placed on this thread now. These refer to membership in the WGA issues. Please refer to the originals in the “SB” to answer so poeple don’t have to sift thru this thread.
Thanks!
Just in case the thread gets lost, here is the link to the questions I mentioned above.
