wow….quite the extremes across the state. I know what you went thru Greyhounder. I had to do our drive, and my moms…with 3 foot drifts and her drive plowed in at over 3 feet high and probably a good 5 foot deep into the street. 3.5 hrs later I am done with both.. and off the CX Ski for 3.5 miles. Hey…if ya can’t cache…go and enjoy the snow!! Wind REALLY picked up on my way out of Point Beach S.P. after my ski run. Had done all the caches there already LOL
Attempting XC ski at a couple Co. Parks in West Bend…have to see if there are caches in any of those places. Love combining 2 sports into one! Think I am going to pass on the Micros in the snow THIS time!!
Hmmmmmm lets see. How many times has I Left with a log book in my hand, left without taking or leaving the TB I was suppose to. Or forget to take the # off the TB when moving it the same day.
OK How many of you have gone to a gas station, got gas and left, BUT the pump you used didn’t take cards and you were SUPPOSE to pay inside. Both hubby and I did that once. Of course I came flying back totally embarassed. Good thing we both got back before the cops got to us. LOL

Hi 4hunting!
Welcome to the WGA and our forums. Since I am the co-sponser for the 3/11 events mentioned above, I can tell you a little bit about what we are doing. First, it has not shown up on the Geocaching website yet, since they had me modify the cache page, but it should be out soon. The paperless class is like others that have been or are scheduled. Topics for the “Going Paperless” class will include – how to select an area for caching in, obtaining PQs (Pocket Queries), GSAK, cache list filtering, Palm pilots, CacheMate, MS Streets & Trips, mapping strategies, route planning, navigational units, and whatever else comes up.
Directly after, we are having an informal class for those who need additional time and help with marking and entering waypoints, using the GPSr for finding caches and actually going out to find caches I had placed for the previous Geocaching 101 class. There was such an overwheling response to that class that many people had questions and needed help but we were unable to get to them all. So….we will hold it in inside the nature center, but of course, will be going out to help you with searching and finding techniques.
There are other classes a bit closer to you, but I an not sure of their specifics.
13 Apr 06 Geocaching Basics Workshop – Greenfield by Greenfield Parks & Recreation w/ AuntieNae (GCT9Y1)
22 Apr 06 Geocaching Basics Workshop – Waukesha by Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry w/AuntieNae (GCT6BQ)Contact AuntieNae via her profile on geocaching.com. She can let you know what all she teaches.
There are other Paperless classes also:
18 Feb 06 Going Paperless 2 by Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve (GCRK8F)
4 Mar 06 Paperless Geocaching – Prairie Du Sac Wisconsin by Not So Lost Puppies (GCTFBG)Otherwise… come on up! There are many local caches as well as the 10 temps for the class and 7 perms on location. You’ll be a pro in no time!!
Hope this helps!!
Anne

Everyong has their own techniques, but what I do when that stupid GPSr compass starts flying all over the place is to turn to the screen showing your actual coordinates on it. I sometimes have to look back to see what the last couple of #’s are for coords for the cache I am at, then flip to the coords screen and follow that. Of course that is touchy too. If I move to fast or don’t stop to let the GPS settle for about 30 sec…I would often times bypass the cache location.
Some people use a regular compass when going into the thicker coverings. I have not learned to do that, but Ecorangers and Bushwhacking Queen said they would teach me a lesson I would not soon forget. LOL Hmm was that with the compass or otherwise. Anyways…I heard using a regular compass works well too. Beast… you two use that method also, don’t you??
Hey Digger…welcome to the WGA. Unfortunately, that is the way any GPSr. Heavier wooded areas or heavier brush, the satelites get blocked and the GPSr loses signal. Even our $250 Magellan SporTrak Pros do that. Have read in an article that between Garmin and Magellan, Magellan tends to hold its signal better in wooded areas…but THAT was the article stating that not me. I have not used a Garmin. Heavy clouds will mess with GPSr signals too.
Thanks to all who voted for me. It sure was a tight election. Now…do any of the new candidates have an odd job they need me to do the day of your first meeting???
Couldn’t get my 12 hr shift back from the person who graciously took it for me. I work cheap! Really really I do!! ROFLMBO
Edited for One dumb typo…darn it!

Congrats to all to who won. May the 2006-2008 term for you be one filled with excitement and great ideas!!
Awesome input MajorBrat!!
Like you said, the $$$ should NOT be an issue. If people don’t wish to or are unable to pay for a premium membership they don’t have to because there are so many more way to participate.
Boy.. this thread has REALLY come up with some GREAT ideas. Thanks Cathunter, for starting the creative juices flowing!!

No need to be sorry PCfrog. I see where you’re coming from though. The recycled everlasting stuff is a great idea too, but like Greyhonder mentioned, many do have a set plan for benches. A simple yet durable plan for them… and then they chain them down once in place. I’d like to say “who’d be stupid enough to steal them” but…well… Those kind of people are out there.
3/11 Immediately following the Going Paperless 3 – NorthEast in Two Rivers. It’s called Newbies Waypoint Workshop Plus
This is for those Newbies (or any Newbies for that matter) whether or not you came to the Geocaching 101 class – its free and very informal.
Edited for after thought

Well… Bill beat me to the punch, as we think on the same lines here. Midnite is it!! I too wish to thank everyone one for their votes {If I even got any LOL} I wish the best to the rest of the candidates and may the best cadidates take seat!!
Good luck to everyone!!
All excellent points Bec!!
I think for now we are only tossing ideas around. If the WGA chooses to pick one, then the details can be worked on.
What I have found in the past, with trying to come up with creative ideas in the business place, is as crazy as they sound, put the idea out there. When the time comes they can be investigated more deeply, weighing pros and cons to see if can actually happen!!
Creativity breeds creativity!
I really think this topic has seeded some great ideas so far!!

I am not sure but I think we were thinking of making them not buying them. Otherwise, YES that’s expensive. There is a basic design alot of the parks use. Don’t think the wood is all that expensive to buy (Hubby does woodworking) and just need the bolts to put them together. THEN hand deliver them.
I guess depending on the number of Premier Memberships we’d get we could decide for sure… that’s “IF” we decided to do somethig like that.

I think a combination of offering items to a premium member as well as offering benefits of the membership, such as discounts as I mentioned earlier in the thread. Make it something that is very inviting. Sure, the WGA may not NEED money, so they could offer PM’s things like WGA pins, stickers, etc., purchased with the membership fees or from events.
Keep the creative juices flowing and we’ll have some awesome ideas. Doesn’t have to wait till a new year either.
“So then why pay for a premier membership if I am just going to get STUFF back for my money??? I could do that on my own!”
Well…. it could be more than that, as we discussed earlier. There are many options here, all we had to do is research it a bit. If I were an owner of an Army Surplus store, I surely would LOVE to offer a discount that would bring in more sales.
Hope that makes sense. Sometimes I know WHAT I want to say but just can’t put it in words!!
