Since my nomination had been placed, interaction between myself and other members has been on the rise. I have received a couple e-mails asking my opinion on a few things. They really are not pointed towards questions of “What would you do about _____ if you were on the board?”, but interest in input on general ideas. I would assume that’s why they didn’t end up under my topic here. I felt there was importance in one especially, I needed to offer my input.
The biggest issue is that of getting members more involved with the wGA forums. The events have great turnout, but the use of the forum is very important too. It is a lot of work keeping up to date on here, so what can we do to draw our members TO the site.
I am currently, ON my own, Benchmarking all 50 states and their Caching Associations, to find out what is working and not working for their sites. I am hoping to retrieve information not only from the B.O.D. of each, but actual memebers. It has peeked my curiosity on why some do so well and what we can do to do the same.
We have a wonder resource tool here, but how can we make it better. This can be a lengthy process but I am hoping for good results.
As a board member, I hope to share the information I recieve, with ther others, to allow for a successful progression of the WGA.

I’d have to agree!! What IS the sense??!!??!! I guess someone COULD take it and TRY to claim it as theirs and re attach it to something, but THAT is just going to lead the real owner to them.
Is it a jealous issue on some cachers part?? Goodness knows, but I hope we will figure something out.
I, too, am frustrated with not finding coins or TB’s in the caches that state so. I recently went to one up near Mountain, WI and found a cache with this very problem. I sent a nice e-mail to the person who found the cache between myself and the person leaving the coin, inquiring if they even saw the coin in there or if they had not logged it yet, to be moved on. Have heard nothing as of yet.

Most seem to be affaid of you as you are of them. Now a wolf??? That might be another story. Had coyotes all over when I lived in Wyoming. Heard them but never did see them.

I did a search on here for a previous topic. Seems waaaaaaaay back in 2002, GrouseTales came up with the idea of using a hair dryer for removal. From the topic comments, it sounds as if it works well.
I figure I’ll just keep making circles arond my windshield LOL
Way to go!! 100 finds is a fun goal to have met. I know I was excited when I got mine.!! Keep on cachin’!!
If a team or individual did not want their finds/threads listed, that would be no biggy to me, personally. That would be up to each individual or team!! As for getting them off the list…..guess that is a question to House of Brews or the WGA. You know….me and that computer stuff..still learnin’
I’m with you guys too. We love those 4&5/4 to 4&5/4.5’s. Not sure I have the right equipment for 5 on terrain though. Guess it’s a great excuse to buy a kayak!! I’ll skip the rope climbing though.

I was speaking as someone who found little in WGA that enhanced my geocaching to the point that I spent most of 2005 as a non-member of the organization and did not feel as if I missed much………..I just found others telling us to not vote for this person just because they do this or not to vote for this person because they are this way or that, a bit overdone.
OK.. standing on the fence here trying to observe all the threads to get a feel for where concerns are coming from.
We all need to remember that not ALL of us are Old Timers to the WGA and may not understand what the qualification for candidates are. Some people may think it is a paid position and they can do everything via computer. I, personally have not voted before, though reading the by-laws, did not have a full grasp on how I should choose whom to vote for.
Brand new people coming into the site, may see someones threads reaching to 600 or 700, and cache finds of 800. These people may think “Wow.. they interact a lot on here, they must be really be active, so I’ll vote for them or nominate them.” By offering statements that this does not necessarily mean they are a highly active cacher and knows alot about the sport and the organization, might be important to a newbie. I am ONLY choosing that example, as that is one most prominent, that “I” see as from the conversation.
As for feeling like the WGA does not do much for caching in the state, we all need to be aware that the goings on, behind the scenes, is plentiful, but not necessarily noticable. Working with the DNR, for one, or the generating of the State coin. We all need to remember that in order for the WGA to be a worthwhile part of the sport we all need to offer SUGGESTIONS. That’s OUR job as a member, or Being ON the board in hopes to make a difference!!
I took a moment to think about it. If there were no members, we’d have no need for the WGA. No WGA would mean a lot more craziness and frustrations to the difficulty of getting hides approved. We are essentially linked with GC.com with our approvers. With no WGA, caching in Wisconsins COULD have the potential of being a bust or being illegal or even being charged a fee to place a cache. The WGA helps and protects its cachers, in a sense, ensuring that how they play the game is safe and fair. All this can’t be done by one site, GC.com, which is there to handle the hides for distribution to the world.
I am by NO MEANS saying the WGA has almighty powers, but when issues come about, the WGA can come in and lend a helping hand.
My 2 cents……These are only observations and personal feelings. Without this type of interaction, the world would be a very boring place. Therefore, “Thanks” for the views and concerns from all sides!!!
Not sure what I want to do for the events yet. I think it is going to depend on the difficulty of the hides. As for other caching resolutions….
1. Get 10 more out in the area
2. Help some new cachers get theirs in place in the county
3. Reach 1000 finds this year.
4. Get a COUNTRY added to my list (that might be a toughy)
5. Lose 25lbs caching …guess I could always hide a 25lb cache LOL
6. Attend more events
7 Create more events
8. Be a WGA Board Member????
This was fun.. now to work on the NONE caching resolutions!
Happy New Year Y’all!!
Waahoo!!! Heres to a successful search to reach 500. Congrats to you!!!
Here’s to 100 more. I have faith you can get that easily this year!! Aim High and good luck caching.
