Get a Garmin, or ………..
Ummmmmm nooooooooooo!!! LOL Gotta be different!! 😀 None of the Garmin have anything kewl and different unless you get into the Colorado. I think having a GPS that has Sooooo many options you could DATE it….is a bit too much. ROFLMBO!!! 😆 😆 😆
I know you are coming in via I90, but if you trek out of Billings on I94 you can grab these great ones in a neat park rich with history and a large geological formation. There is a fee for these, but we came off season, parked at the end of the round and walked in.
GCM2V7 Pomp’s Tower is just before you get into Billings. A Lewis & Clark stop with nice views, historical center located on site and you can see where L&C etched their names into the rock!!
GC1CWXK Pompey’s Pillar – An EarthCache, is also obtainable at this location. Requirements are very easy. Wish it was there when I had come thru a number of years ago
GCGJ87 where the Mountain Lion Lies is a Virtual located 0.2 from Pomps Tower. It must be in the park also, but I didn’t do this one. Was with a NON caching persona at the time and they didn’t want to stay any longer than they had to.
out of Montana
I’m to the point where I’d just like to make up a name!! 😯
Did I just THINK that out loud???
Geoaware, along with the Geology society, just wants to make sure that EarthCaches are NOT placed in SENSITIVE areas, therefore asks for the permission to place. Sure… there are no containers, but many places don’t even want any activity. This has been a gripe since the beginning. As with the WiDNR…the don’t want anyone walking around in sensitive ares, YET they advertise them on the WiDRN websites. GO figure!!
LB7.. I just got a note from the gal who started up the IATCC thing. She did my Silva Prometorium…her very FIRST EC!!I can look up her ID for you…if that is of any help. Otherwise, I know AuntieNae has a lot of involvement with that also.
Back home on the Mainland. Wanted to say Thanks to all for who took part in the voting process and to those who included a vote for me in their choices. We had a GREAT selection of candidates running for the board this year. My congratulations goes out to all those who join me this year. I look forward to working with all the board members, as well as all members of the WGA.
Thank you once again and here’s looking towards an awesome 2009
Anne
Mahalo all!! Will put a link to my Walgreens photo album, when I get the 500 pics downloaded!! LOL
Hit Diamond Head for a sunrise hike today…..now into a sub to see the underworld!!
Mahalo again for all the congrats!!
Anne & Dan
I’m moving this over to the Tech Talk forum. It might get more hits and answers for you!!!!
I participate in caching, of course and EarthCaches are my favorite. I seem to come across Benchmarks, moreso when I am traveling. I need to learn more about them so I can make sure I am not just looking other types. Benchmarking is one area I would like to get a better handle on and grow my numbers.
Waymarking – I seem to come across all kinds of neat stuff, but when I get home, forget to go in and log them. Too many things swirling around in my head. LOL
I think they are all great, but of course I have a love for geology and the EarthCaches are my babies!!
1) Give me one reason to that I should vote for you?
I am currently on the BOD and have a good hand on the ins & outs of the Association.
2) You have 1 vote and can not vote for yourself, who is your one vote cast for and why?
That’s a toughie, but…I would vote for Gwyn. Having input from someone from a distance…mile wise and length of caching wise. It helps us to think outside our box.
3) Please note this one is Dean’s opinion and may or may not represent the other half of my caching team. I have become very disgruntled and really feel the WGA has not lived up to its expectations (please note I dont lay this in the lap of one individual). What can you do to bring the disgrunted members back to the WGA?
Hearing what bthey ahve to say, not just listening and nodding. Also, putting myself into action on the problem. I make sure I hear all sidwes of the story, gather my info, present to whom I need to and try to get answers.
Rereading the question several times, I feel that it is directed more to a personal level and NOT asking what I want to see or what I would help the WGA to do. So far, just having a Forum Category dedicated to EarthCaches was a great stride for the WGA to put forth. For my personal key factors, I stress to others thinking about or who may not even know about placing EarthCaches:
- 1. Its educational fun for both the owner and the seekers. I have learned tons!!
2. Hey… no maintenance!! Not containers to walk away!!
3. Offereing new and unusual places for cachers/visitors to see in the state.
4. REWARDING – Though a bit of work, they are well worth it when you see and hear about what cachers have seen and learned.
5. Bringing attention to need of preservation of these areas.
6. Did I mention…..NO MAINTENANCE. LOLI do stress the importance of creating QUALITY EarthCaches. These are very specialized caches and as Earthcache.org stress, is to be truly education. Why do I personally own so few??? Well…for me, I am looking for those very, very unique features and when I find them, I’ll create the EarthCache to so deserves to be created there. 🙂
01/22/2009 at 4:15 am in reply to: Fun ?..A day caching with (candidate) would be a day of….. #1900755Well….. a day with Da Fu. We would probably be heading out for some EarthCaches for sure, probably Waaaaay up North where I’ve never been. We’d be scouting out some caches with nice hikes, wonderful views, probably not urbans way up there.
I can guarantee the will be filled with laughs , story swapping, education lessons with the EC and tally up the day with dinner some place simple. There would be a bunch of picture taking for sure, some brainstorming on ideas for new caches and containers.
Our day together would be laid back but full of fun and a lot of hiking!! What better way to share a friendship and love for caching!!

Aw c’mon Ralph, you have a cute smile! Maybe not as cute as Anne’s, though!
You think this is cute??? 😯 LOL
Marc……if there is anyway…. read through the answers each question without looking at WHO wrote the answers, till having read through them them all. Keep tally of the answers you like. From there pick the candidates with the the greater number of answers you agree with.
Hope it helps!!
To answer my own question, being a current BOD member:
I wanted to hopefully make a difference. I wanted to bring in ideas that might seem far fetched, but when thought about, could possibly be put forth in some manner or another.
I wanted to have a bigger hand in the overall drive of the organization. I have worked for a variety of organizations and participated in sub-organizations that were so large, many of us never had a voice. The WGA is smaller to work with and truly takes in consideration the voices of its members. If a voice is NOT heard and they come to my, I do my very best to make sure they ARE heard and offer all information given to me from that/those voices.
We are all IN the 21st century, but some live in the past. Being conservative is something that is important….at times… but it also feels like the proverbial “Rainy Day” is something that wants to be adhered to. I always take heart a few of sayings “What goes around, comes around”, “You get what you pay for” and “It takes money to make money” Of course, the WGA IS a not-for- profit organization, but I feel that those of you who read those saying understand where I am coming from.
I have worked with Milwaukee Parks Dept and have a great relationship with Dodge Co. manager, who is also a fair weather cacher.
I have also worked with Woodland Dunes Nature Area in Manitowoc Co. That is a partially private own and partial DNR area, so a lot of work went into that, but I was able to get 7 caches approved.
I’m actually OFF that weekend. What are the odds. LOL Actually 50/50, working every other weekend
