    Congrats gotta run!

in reply to: Do you like to watch? #1914069

I have 21 on my watchlist. Mostly difficult puzzles from all over. I do have one EarthCache on my watchlist, so that I can learn some faces out there.

    And two coins.

I get the same thing. This could be a headache.

“Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.” Sounds like someone isn’t paying their bills. Luckily, I only have a couple of caches that would need to be changed.

step away from the dark side, and get the Garmin (the force will be strong with you)

The dark side has found me over 1250 caches! And it only cost me $115 for my eXplorist 210. Yeah, I’m proud of it! Black and white screen, no maps. But I still “OUT CACHED” 95% of the teams at the cache ba$h 😀 😀 You can have your color screens and tide information. HaHa

That being said I will still take any donations of an Oregon 🙂 😛 🙂

I’ve been reading this thread with interest, especially after having seen the Oregon 550 at geowoodstock. Today I finally made my decision, and am making the switch from Magellan to a Garmin Oregon 550. My Magellan still works pretty good, but I was disapointed that I can no longer upgrade the maps, and that Magellan no longer even provides repairs for this unit. I think that caching is about to get a whole lot more fun. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with this model.

That’s a big switch. I still use my good old Magellan. I love it!! HAHA But I “cheat” I use my Magellan with my iPhone. It works pretty well. I must remain strong on the Magellan team.

Your odds of winning would go up. 1/800 instead of 1/ten-thousands. Plus, we’d add more prizes to the raffle.

    What does everyone else think?

My odds would go down…very few folks found 50+ caches…for each team which didn’t, my odds were better. I like winning….I guess I’m shallow like that. But like I said, I’d still come whatever the format would be and I’d guess that would hold true for most folks.

But also consider that I might pop in at registration, go home, and come back later in the day to see if I won….no real incentive for me to hang out in town if I didn’t feel like it….

I have to side with Lostby7 on this one. I enjoy the competition. Why mess with a format that works, that made this event a MEGA?!? Reward those who go out and get all 50 or 51 or 52!! Just my two cents.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I didn’t want to start another Cache Ba$h thread.

It seemed to me like there was an “offical” picture taker. Taking pictures of the winners, and the cachers coming in. Are those picture posted somewhere…or are they going to be posted somewhere? I see there is an empty photo album for the bash. Thanks

I had done a pocket query before I left town and then got the event caches downloaded during the Friday event (and BTW, would have preferred to have done it in my hotel room rather than waiting in line). My Oregon did receive the cache pages and descriptions but did not have the code names so I never knew what the event caches were. I also did not get a copy of the event map so I needed Jerry’s Dad and Northern Lightz to tell me this information. Fortunately our goal was numbers rather than event caches so it didn’t matter as much.

I also created a PQ before heading to West Bend. I went to the Meet and Greet, downloaded the file, didn’t like the format the caches were in, deleted the WGA file, and reloaded my original PQ. Also, I thought it would have been nice to get the “map” at the meet and greet.

Again, that is just picky stuff. It in NO WAY effected my overall thought of the weekend! Great job! Thanks for all of the hard work.

I absolutely LOVED the event. Geocharger and I were able to get ALL of the caches in the time allowed. I would offer these few suggestions…

1)No Code Words – it seemed to me like there was a bunch of cell phone activity going on. I didn’t hear of any exchanging of code words, but I think we should remove the temptation.

2)Bonus Tickets for Water Caches or More Difficult Caches – Make it worth the effort.

3)I agree that more prizes would be nice. But I like the bigger cash prizes. Also, maybe for the “smaller prizes” just postig some numbers on a board for people to check. It could save time?

4)I LOVE THE NIGHT CACHES!!! Please keep this!

If I remember, and if I have time, I’ll change all the cache placement dates to the 14th on Friday morning. Unfortunately, it won’t let me pre-date them right now.

Thanks pharmgirl! Your work in this event is GREATLY appreciated. Can’t wait for the event.

in reply to: Cache Ba$h Weekend #1910068

Are the 50 new caches that are being placed going to be dated as placed on 8-15 or 8-14? I am assuming that some, if not all of the caches are already in place. I hope that they will be dated as being placed this weekend, so that I can run a Pocket Quiere easier for just these new caches.

I know that I will just be able to download them at the meet and greet, but if they are dated for the weekend it will be easier on my phone to pull them up. Thanks.

Thanks pharmgirl!! That should be enough to keep me busy!

Definitely getting excited for the event! Thank you to everyone for the work that you put into it. Just one quick question:

The “water” caches – are those in addition to the fifty caches places or are those part of the fifty?

in reply to: Containerless Caches #1911016

I haven’t been on the forums in a while, but another cacher emailed me and said there was some interesting stuff going on. I am guessing this is it. I can understand gotta run’s frustration. I didn’t realize that this much cache sharing information goes on? Interesting.

Isn’t part of the fun of geocaching, the excitement of finding something by yourself? Whether figuring out a puzzle, or finally making a tough find? I can remember a couple of times that my wife and I were ecstatic finding a cache that we had no help with…and I was thinking how things would be different if I knew ahead of time.

    1) Our first cache ever – I can still remember the excitement, literally running back to our car with the container. What was this magical container? A 35mm in a tree!! We were hooked. Things would have been much different, and I don’t know if I would still be geocaching today, if I would have been given direction on how to find it.

    2) Most Unique Containers – Looking at my wife, and saying, “NO WAY!!!” That’s too good. For all of you hiders out there who place those…THANKS. We drove to Appleton, 4 times after long days of work, in the dead of winter to find a certain cache. Once we found it, that was all we could talk about!!

I wouldn’t want it any other way. (except for the occasional nudge 😀 )
