You might have been to exact in your search, I just did basic search for: convert gps coords

A quick google search gave me on the first link this page:
    http://boulter.com/gps/

It’s pretty easy to use, just put your coords in as google shows them, both lat and lon seperated by a space and click Convert and Map.

I’m lazy and I plug the coords into my GPS and then change the display mode so the GPS does the converting for me 😉

On our vacation last week we came across a “?/Mystery” cache that was sort of like that. You got the coords and then had to figure where exactly in that location the cache was. It was actually kind of neat because of the theme. We have yet to log it, but I’ll post it once we do get it logged.

We also found a cache that took us to a spot that had a micro and then within it stated to walk 8 paces and find the ‘real’ micro w/ the log. It didn’t say right or left, it said to choose. I thought that one was kind of silly. Especially because where the actual micro was another car was parked there with a guy sleeping in it 🙁

    Justin,

I’m glad to see the responses that you’ve gotten. That’s great news! The description of the notes you found in the cache location really makes me wonder if it’s our friendly Alderman Mr. Walter Kalata that might have been playing ‘mind games’ with you when you were searching for it.

Hopefully we’ll see a better article out of the news paper in the future 😉

Interesting, that papers website is hosted by USA Today. That really surprises me, I wonder if USA Today manages/owns/hosts a lot of local news sites.

Anyways, I really have this gut feeling that things are being blown out of proportian by this reporter. I just wonder why…

I look to reading your report K0rpl, I’m starting to get the feeling that the Alderman might not be the one having issues with cachers, but the reporter angling their story that way in order to make ‘news’.

Another reason why I dislike Media just as much as politians for the most part 😉

If you go into the cache page GCQ2B5 you will see in the logs that it had recently been “Muggled.” There was a note at the cache saying “Sorry Suckers.” Knowing that geocahers do not dig up flowers to find a cache, do you suppose that the “Muggle” might also dig up flowers?

    Now my conspiracy theory……

A geocacher was seen at the cache shaking tree limbs.

They know this cause there was a GPSr in their hand.

A woman was seen digging up flowers.

There is a cache in this park.

    The cache was recently muggled.

What I believe we have here is a woman who likes to garden but cannot afford her own flowers. She also has a split personality as a serial Muggler getting her coordinates from a free membership to GC.com.

Or it could have been local yard gnomes. They’re evil and I hear tend to do things like this. 😉

Replanting something sort of indicates cachers are the ones who did something wrong in the first place, which I personally doubt is what occured.

I love how this guy knows nothing about geocaching and just assumes. Sounds like a typical politian not knowing facts before they speak.

That’s very interesting. The one line that sticks out to me is “Be responsible for your cache. There is no time limit for placement of the cache, but it is recommended the cache be monitored at least quarterly.”

The no time limit is a surprise to me. I thought orginally a 1 year time limit was going to be required.

Glad to see some offical posting on Geocaching 🙂

We just found our first Geocoin in a cache while we’re on vacation. We’ll be placing it out soon in the Madison area. Hopefully that one wont be ‘looted’ 😉

Should we be seaking approval for hiding these boxes in the Madison parks as if they were Geocaches too?

Interesting. I’m almost curious enough to stop by and get a map… hehe

Anyone watching that new Treasure Hunters TV show? It’s not as cool as I was hoping it would be, but it is entertaining and amusing none the less.

    in reply to: www.gpsthemovie.com #1738348

Interesting, what I read was they wanted the box hidden by the 1st… I’ll have to re-read the documents that came with mine.

Thanks for the FYI on that though, hope I’m not a ‘special’ case 😉 *snicker*
