Yeah, we recently just got ours. Kind of irritating how they want it hid by July 1st yet we get them so late in June 🙁 I’d like to have at least one weekend to hide it. Especially with the odd weather we’ve been having lately 😉 (We’ve been avoiding Geocaching during rain because of our adventure with Artopsy’s “The Artful Dodger” in the rain)
Anyways, it will get hidden asap. I’ve got a few ideas that I need to scout out yet.
We just got back from a cruise to the Caribbean 2 weeks ago. In preperation for the cruise we were informed that Passports -will- be required after Decemeber 31st, 2006 for re-entry the US. Canada etc are all included with that requirement. We were urged to get our Passports by our travel agency as soon as possible if we plan on anymore trips outside of the US.
However, I get frustrated when you hike in the woods for a micro, that could have been something bigger in the same basic spot … as I’ve said before, sometimes it seems a shame to “waste” a nice big hiding spot for a little container.
I couldn’t agree more. We’ve had that occur this year where we did a nice trek through the woods and in such a remote area we expected to find something big. Nope, a little container where we couldn’t even place a travel bug which was one of the reasons we picked the cache. Oh well 😉
We tend to enjoy micro’s more than full size traditional caches. They tend to be interesting containers. I guess I should say we are enjoying Urban Micro’s. While in Florida we found some that were very interesting. I’ve even been ebaying for some cache containers for micros 🙂 Sorry to add more micros to WI 😉
With Urban Micro’s it doesn’t require us to go out into the woods and get scraped up everytime we Geocache. Don’t get me wrong, we love the hikes too. We just don’t have much time to do them anymore so we’ve been concentrating on Micros.
But yes, there are good micros and bad micros. The good/creative micros make it all worth while 🙂
While searching ebay I did find this cache very interesting if not amusing 😉 I don’t know how many of us would actually poke at it to see if it was real or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8818735924
That being said, did I buy one or not? 😈
There will be one somewhere in the Madison area also 😉
Dunno if any of you have seen the updates to the movie page. The game for the Movie started. http://www.gpsthegame.com
Seems pretty interesting so far. The “Live” hunts start July 1st.
I’ll have to go see where these signs are sometime then. I didn’t see any from the vantage points I was at. Thanks for the info.
I really wonder if the DNR did say 80k vs 8k. A miss quote like that could leave a person thinking that volume of people could impact the state parks a lot more. Maybe I’m overly paranoid about possible banning, but it seems that ignorance and misinformation tend to affect policies in the making and I’d hate for that to happen.
I did find it amusing that I recongized most of the cache locations I’m not so sure they got the story right on Madison’s ‘temporary’ ban on geocaching though… I remember that pretty clearly, the cache that was in question in U.W. Arboretum really didn’t have any nature impact that we saw when we went to retrieve it. Then again, I’m not a nature expert
I’m looking forward to seeing channel 15’s segment.
Yeah, 80,000 geocachers from WI does seem like a lot. I wonder if there is a way to generate an accurate statistic about this from geocaching.com…
Yeah, the segment wasn’t too bad. I think the DNR representative was very positive about it though.
quote:
… To me, numbers a only an indication on how much time someone has on their hand. Anyone can find a cache!
Log your temps, or don’t log them. It doenst matter to me [/B]
I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes it takes us a few months to just log in and log a couple of finds we have. Hmm makes me wonder if we have some that still need to be logged from this past fall…
I always find criticism of logging temp caches amusing. Trying to think back, I don’t think we’ve logged any so I can’t really be one to judge. But I personally don’t see anything wrong with it. It is a personal ‘score’. When we first started geocaching we (probably more I) used the finds as a goal. “By January 1st I want to have found X amount of caches.” We use it more so as motivation to do more when we’re out and about rather than being slaves to the TV.
Hmm, I think the TV has been winning lately. Must do something about that this summer!

of The CacheseekersI’ll have to record both and find out!
I’m hoping channel 27’s report isn’t negative, their ad/lead into it seems to be making it that way so far.
Wow I’m blind this morning. I went to their website to do a quick search for geocache/geocaching and found nothing. I guess a habit of ignoring image ad’s isn’t always a good one
Thanks for the link! When you click on the image it plays the commercial.

The Glow in the Dark one sounds very familiar. I didn’t know you had one just north of Madison. That sucks that happened, would probaby have been closer for us to check out.
Thanks for the help!
