Interesting clues.. We’re available for any recon in the Madison area. Just for giggles I’m going to stop at our REI tomorrow and snoop around for clues

of The Cacheseekers*giggle of excitement*
I had just checked out magellen a couple weeks ago to see if they were running another one
Hope one or more is in Wisconsin again It was great fun treking all the way from Madison to Milwaukee and to find it not to long after the first ‘wave’

of The CacheseekersWe’ve got a cache inbetween Rhinelander and Tomahawk that has only had one group of challengers. “There and Back Again – a Geocachers Tale (GCJZTP) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=07d94bb2-0b4d-4212-a99b-b6a1ccdfd747
Since you’re on a business trip, I’m not sure how ‘easy’ this would be for you to do. It’s a multi-cache and requires a canoe or small boat

of The CacheseekersAhh.. yeah. I just hooked up a power strip to have more outlets Kind of silly it having only 1 outlet built in it.
I ordered a 12v AC adapter/combo cable from garmin’s site for my Garmin GPS III about 6 months ago. We have a power inverter in the car to plug the laptop and GPS into so I didn’t want to have a cigarette lighter adapter. This way we can use it in any wall outlet also
Garmin has that for $45: http://shop.garmin.com/accessory.jsp?sku=010%2D10277%2D00
I’m sure it could be found somewhere else cheaper.
I picked up a 300WATT power inverter at walmart for 30$ a few years ago. I think the prices have gone down for those too.
I know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but I know it’s nice being able to plug the GPS into a wall outlet is convient

of The CacheseekersI had not known that the DNR fees etc get pooled into the “big bucket”. I’m not surprised though. Man, that really makes me think twice about purchasing licenses for seasons that I might get one day to go out hunting. I never had a problem with paying it as I was under the assumption that ‘any little bit helps’ the DNR. Not in this case I guess.
No wonder the DNR hasn’t kept up with WGA’s whole Geocaching policy proposal. They’ve got a lot more things to worry about.
Just makes me feel more justified in the ‘I hate you” look I give Doyle every once and awhile I see him at work. 😛 So much to say, but this is not the place
Maybe we’ll have some better luck with the DNR if/when we have a new state leader. Is that election in 2005 or 2006?

Brian, I couldn’t agree more. I also hear that the deer hunting license is going from 20$ to 32$. That just pisses me off. For the past couple years “the herd is huge”, yet I have not seen a single living deer during the gun season for the past 2 years. Literally. I see more when we go geocaching!
I use to work for the state. What I know of what I saw is huge wasteful spending. I worked in the IT dept and every year my location was -required- to spend ~$300,000 on new PC’s. These were -not needed- in this evironment. It took at least 6 months to deploy and nearly 1/4th of the PC’s bought had hardware issues. (I’m under estimated there in reality)
So when I see crap like this I get really pissed off. I’m all for technology, hell it’s where I make my living. But if that is just what occured at my location I have a good idea on how much the division spent. Then looking across the board to the rest of the divisions in the state it’s rediculous.
Anyways.. I’m sure some other WGA members may still work for the state so I’ll stop my rant.
So sad to see parks close…

Oh this sounds like a cache type that is just up my alley. I have this unusual love of geology. I might just have to start ‘placing’ some of these earthcaches in Wisconsin. I can think of a dozen places that would rock for it. (no pun intended hehe)
Actually, a lot of caches in central wisconsin area could almost be considered earthcaches that we’ve visited.
I’ll see what we can do over winter break, maybe we’ll get a couple earthcaches created if we get time.

of The CacheseekersI just checked this out and tested generating the WGA selection and the code comes up as:
div style=’padding-top:5px;padding-bottom:5px;’ align=’center’>
Generated by The SelectorWhich then shows the WGA logo and the text: St Louis Area Geocaching Association below it linking to wi-geocaching.com It lookes like they forgot to replace the text discription in the code that they copied.

The Parade insert is also in this weeks Wisconsin State Journal.
We only took one picture of it when we found it. It does stick out of a stump a litte bit, or I should say did. For those who would like to see it:
http://www.cacheseekers.com/images/DSCN2667.JPGI’m trying to think about the labeling on this cache as we were the last ones to find it… Might have a picture on the camera, I’ll have to look. I can see how now that the leaves have fallen the cache could be spoted easier. The area where it was located looked like it got alot of foot traffic, I assumed by local kids. Did this make news in any of the local news papers?
Nick
of The CacheseekersI’ve previously had a similar issue where we’ve submitted a cache for cotm and it appeared twice. Not having two votes, but actually listed twice. We figure that someone would have looked at the logs and fix it
If you can’t use a 802.11 B/G card on their network, it’s worthless. Proprietary hardware is out in the network world now. They also compare it to Wi-Fi that’s “increasingly available in hotels, cafe’s and parks”, which is 802.11 B/G.
All of the industry journals i’ve been reading indicated 802.11 rollout in major cities.
The person who wrote that article must have looked at the most expensive wireless cards on the market. I own 3 different kinds of wireless cards and none cost me more than 50$ new. Infact, the internal card for my laptop cost me 14$ including shipping and it’s support in unix so I can run that on my laptop instead of windows. I don’t have ‘cheap’ quality cards either, a Cisco, Belkin, and Intel.
