After reading some of the members opinions, I initially had two thoughts. First, I didn’t agree that changing the wording, or including a breakfast, lunch, or dinner, just to pass the “guidelines” was in keeping to the spirit of our Team concept. We fully intend to get together specifically to seek difficult caches as a Team. That is, and will continue to be our main purpose for these outings. Any way you want to sugar coat it, there it is.
Then my second thought was I may be holding to a principle, albeit stubbornly, to the detriment of others. A simple change of some wording, not a lot to ask, right?
Then suddenly it came to me. Although it hasn’t been approved yet, I’m sticking my neck out yet again and announcing Saturdays newest event:

Groundspeak Event Policy Discussion by Team Badger

Join us for a lively discussion of current Groundspeak policies, including event caches, virtuals caches, and other various other topics of interest. The meeting place for this event will be a parking area off CTY HWY ZZ near the Scuppernong Hiking Trails. The discussions will continue along some of the more difficult trails nearby. Please bring your own drinks, snacks, etc. You may also wish to bring a lunch, or join some of us in nearby Eagle for a famous WizBit Chili Cheese Dog. The discussions will continue thru the afternoon, and we may even find ourselves near some of the more difficult caches in the area. Those wishing to pause the conversations, long enough to sign into any logbooks we may find along the way, are encouraged to do so. Team Badger is looking forward to hearing your opinions on the subjects, and welcomes anyone who wishes to join us.

    ***ATTENTION***
Please note the new parking area.

(thanks for the heads up subterranean)

I hope to see everyone there.

Pat & I regret that we will also be out of town the 16th. It’s probably for the better, as we would have had a hard time choosing between your’s and Cathunter’s paddling event, as T&tb can attest. Our sincere thanks for all the work you have done with the Madison Parks Dept. This can only shine a brighter light on the geo-community in the Parks Dept.’s eyes.

    ***UPDATE***
It seems our event has been denied. The Groundspeak guidelines state:
…an event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for an organized hunt of another cache or caches.
So we will not be having an event cache, however Team Badger will be hiding our traditional mission accomplished cache somewhere nearby. At every outing Team Badger goes on, we place a cache to commemorate the mission and the meeting of friends. So although there won’t be an event to log, there will still be a bonus cache to find.
As far as the itinerary goes, Dew it for Fun will likely be the first cache attempted. From there we will go with a group concensus. Nothing is ever strictly regimented when it comes to the Team. We are very flexible and mostly go with the flow. The Team concept seems to bring out the best in everyone, so feel free to come out and join us for as many or as few caches as you’d like.

Kudos indeed Messa! Great job on reaching 300. At this rate you’ll have 1000 before you even have a drivers licence.

Congratulations from the two of us as well. Your contributions to the geo-community are just as deserving of accolades. Keep up the good work.

Congrats from both of us as well. The first hundred is the best! Celebrate it by doing something special, like say…going caching.

We can speak from experience both from hosting events and attending many events.
I only brought this subject up because this is the first time I’ve seen a limit on attendance.
I believe the WGA picnic this year had a record turnout with significantly less temporary hides than last year. Yes, there were times that multiple teams converged on hides, sometimes even finding teams with the cache still in hand. But this is all part of the fun. I’d hate to hear of cachers who would of liked to attend one of our events, but couldn’t due to space limitations.

I’d rather see people standing in line, than being excluded from attending an event and missing out on the fun and festivities.

Thank you all for the kind words. GooseyXXII was #900 and well deserving of it’s recent COTM honors. Now who’s got a recommendation for #1000?

in reply to: An interesting challenge #1741627

The metal detectors to locate the land mines are no problem. Using frequent flyer miles to reach Afghanistan could be feasable. But this: “Must check-in with Camp Phoenix Joint Operations Center for approval to enter area of cache.” may prove more difficult than it sounds.
Team Badger: “Excuse us sir, but we are here to find a ziplock baggie using GPS recievers”
Camp Commander: “Sure, and after you find that, I’ve got something else hiding just across the Pakistan border I’d like you to find”
Team Badger: “Sorry sir, locationless caches are no longer being approved”
Camp Commander: “Lieutenant, see that these new recruits get a hot meal before being sent out on tonights recon patrol.”
