With only 4 other finders in it’s 2 1/2 year existence, this has been my favorite so far- http://tinyurl.com/7g4vz

I really don’t think beer belongs in a cache, but I wouldn’t have any problems finding a cold one while out caching on occasion.. 🙂
One mentionable- most beers will not break open and leak if frozen. TS & Laurie taught us this trick before Rock Island a couple of years ago- put your beer in the freezer for a couple of days before camping- it works better than ice in the cooler and tastes just fine after it thaws.
I drive truck and we haul alot of beer and trust me frozen beer cuts the shelf life of it down to a couple of days if your lucky and any beer in any container will freeze solid and break the container at minus 20 degrees. It is a constant battle for us to pick it up and deliver it without it freezing in the winter months.
Good to know… my freezer averages 0 to -5 deg. Soda definitely splits a can but never yet a beer. For camping, shelf life is not an issue – we’ve never kept the beer around for more that a couple of days.
Ah yes, 100 temp caches will be an ideal way to promote the sanctity of Rock Island.
Might I suggest you also switch to non-alcoholic beer and ban Wisconsin cheese!

I’ve found (and put to good use) plenty of unauthorized swag. Knives, fireworks, lighters…. I even got a good Cuban cigar out of a cache once.
I don’t worry too much about it- I really don’t think there are many minors out there caching alone. If they are old enough to cache on their own, they must also be old enough to make their own decisions.
If you still check your kid’s trick-or-treat candy, you should be doing the same with their cache swag.Again, I don’t support inappropriate swag, but I don’t see any reason people need to be overly concerned either- there are plenty of worse things right here on the internet….
Since it it posted on geocaching.com and I could then log it as a find, I’m not going.
Once you had the map with tracks made with USA Photomaps, simply save it as a .jpg and then you can use any photo editing software to add symbols and place names.
Why not ask the park ranger or naturalist instead of opening such a question for speculation here?
🙄
Rock Island is just around the corner and I can’t wait. If you like to camp and the idea of spending a weekend on an island is alluring to you, I highly recommend attending this event.
Without a geocaching event, Rock Island is a marvelous historical site (lighthouse included). Throw in a few caches, some excellent hiking, and of course beer and cheese around the fire at night- it really doesn’t get any better than this!
Experience Rock Island- you won’t regret it!@GrouseTales wrote:
The WGA has ordered a face-cord and FU is bringing it to the group sites.
It was purchased locally. We’ll have plenty at group camp.** edit: this wood is for the group sites **
Considering the nightly campfire has pretty much been a non-event, I’m shocked to hear so much wood has been purchased.
A face cord is four feet high and eight feet long. A face cord of hardwood is going for well over $100. Sure you have enough? 😕
Though not the most private, the ridge campsites at Wyalusing are probably the most scenic in Wisconsin. I highly recommend it to all who have not been there.
I like what I see coming from the reviewers.
Geocaching.com has allowed a cache saturation problem to build and now steps are being taken to correct it. Too many caches have been placed that do not concur with what the majority of geocachers consider a “great” cache.
As geocaching continues to evolve, so will the rules that apply to the game.Approvers are educated and experienced geocachers. They understand the “WOW” factor that makes a good cache. Let’s not complain about the people that are working to improve the sport. Our time would be better spent educating those with poor placements. All too many cachers continue to log compliments on poorly thought-out cache placements. Every cache should have a certain “WOW” factor. Build on that.

Wow! I’m shocked to see this implemented so quickly.
Great job to Jeremy and the new web committee!
I’m a bad programmer so the mod seems complicated to me. 🙂
I wonder if it might work better to make “hide/unhide” selections in the “Account Preferences” section instead on the main forum page?
A question for those out-of-state residents-
In your opinion, why is it important that you be allowed to become a registered member of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association?
