Loved the pic you submitted in the jeep contest!
A fellow cacher & kayaker- should we be looking for some aqua-caches by next summer?
If the time zone is set to “US-Central” which is -06:00 UTC, and you allow it to track for awhile it should automatically sync, as Jeremy stated.
If not, it has a problem.
Only other suggestion would be to download and intstall the firmware update from Garmin, which I would do anyway.
GPSMAP 60C Ver. 4.00 as of June 20, 2005 http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=547
Early Canada goose season runs Sept. 1-15
Black Bear hunting season runs Sept. 7 through Oct. 11.
Early archery deer hunting seasons opens Sept. 17
Hey, congratulations!
Some time ago, after a long wet weekend of caching, I noticed a pungent odor growing in my cachemobile. Figuring mold was setting into the interior, I spend hours shampooing the carpet and seats.
I thought I solved the problem when over a week later the odor had become completly overpowering.
I began to wonder if maybe someone hadn’t slipped a dead body into my trunk. With some hesitation, I opened the trunk lid and shuffled a few things aside when THERE IT WAS!
Two pounds of ground beef that must have fallen out of a grocery bag some 2 weeks before…
YUK!
Great place! I camped and cached there during my July vacation. It’s on my list of places to go back to for another round.
I find it very helpful if when someone suggests a cache, they place a LINK to it in their post.
I don’t use “GCTDN” type waypoint names for anything, so a link is a lot easier than going searching. For those that don’t know how to make a link, there’s a useful FAQ here- http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/ubbcode.html

If your primary use will be geocaching, I recommend getting a used palmOneâ„¢ Zireâ„¢ or Handspring unit from somewhere like E-Bay or a “remanufactured” unit directly from the company website.
http://store.palmone.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1179667I use a Handspring Visor Deluxe, which can be purchased for less than $30 on E-bay. I have had up to 1000 cache pages loaded on it with no problem.
If I break it or lose it, no big loss. Pretty hard to say that about the $100-$500 models.
Gander Mountain is running a great sale right now- Garmin Etrex Legend with the topo map CD for only $199
The GPS alone is usually $199+ and the CD another $89+
Maybe we should each start e-mailing them directly to explain our passion? If they got a mailbox full they might think twice.
I can’t help but wonder how well he reads? 3000 caches in Waukesha?

The GPS memory and/or SD card simply acts as a flash drive.
There are 2 common ways to do it. The Magellan way is to use their “Magellan Geocache Manager” program that comes with the GPSr to upload with the unit’s USB cable.
The other way is to use the newest version of GSAK to export the correct file type to your pc. The file can then be uploaded to the unit via it’s USB cable OR you can upload it to an SD card through a reader/writer.
The unit does not come with an SD card. It has some 8MB of internal memory that can be uploaded to. I mention this because some people might have an SD card, and some may not, so the SD reader/writer is not a solution for everyone. BUT, the upload procedure with the USB cable is basically the same.
Real geocachers don’t use hints.
Kind of goes back to the question- If you didn’t find the cache is it ok to log it?
I’ve seen temp caches being passed around at an event. In some people minds, apparently if they see/touch a cache, they deserve credit for finding it.
Finder’s Tree is a great solution! We used it at the campout for the first time and thought it a better way to geocache.
I have yet to post to the “other” thread, because I simply don’t feel too strongly about it either way.
I’ve been to a few events, some that had caches and some that didn’t. I enjoyed each one for what it was. I tend to believe that there is plenty of room for both types of events, and as always, everyone can make their own choice as to which ones they will attend.
I choose not to log temp caches as “attended” because I like my event cache stats to reflect how many events I have been to, and nothing more. If there was a special log type for temp caches I would probably use it. Since there is not, I won’t be logging any temp caches.
How others choose to log their temp caches is of no concern of mine. As someone else was wise enough to mention, geocaching.com is not the basis of the sport. It is one listing service that provides a pretty decent bang for the buck. If your love of geocaching is based around the stats on geocaching.com, you have yet to discover the true joys of the sport.
If I was a board member, I would vote to make the campout a place for a temp cache-hunting frenzy, and the picnic a place to socialize with other cachers, with a few localized caching games or instruction pertaining to geocaching near the main shelter.
