I can get on the list now too. New cachemobile got new tires after blowing one out caching in the middle of the Nicolet Forest a couple of weeks ago. Naturally, is started pouring as soon as I got the spare down.
I think you are on the wrong website.
But, I would be happy to help. Check out my new site at http://www.wi-paddlers.net
07/28/2005 at 2:24 am in reply to: Cache Event – Way up Nord Fall Campout Bash ‘n’ Cache #1738393I just did some cache/camping there and loved the area. Plus I had the biggest bear I have ever seen in the wild cross the road right in front of me just outside town!
Will put it on the calendar!
Absolutely the best piece I have ever seen!
Great job by Mrs. WISearcher, Cachew and anyone else that worked behind the scenes!!
I would be happy to, but I just burned up much of my vacation time caching & paddling in Rusk county. I actually am looking at doing an event cache in the Blue Hills, but not until next year.
Then again, if the county would be willing to pay my expenses for such a trip….. I’m sure we could work something out.
I’m also good at volunteering other people for things…. as we do have a board member not all so far away from Ladysmith….
I also suggest getting in touch with Crazy4. They are active Rusk County cachers who just happen to owe me a favor.

Yea, it would be great if the pit toilets were polished and smelling fresh when the rest of us get there.
I was at breakfast, deep in conversation with another cacher when this guy with a funny hat approached. We exchanged glances as I continued the conversation and when I turned around the man and his hat were gone. Later I realized that the hat said “WZBT03”, and I have regretted that day ever since.
When’s the next Team Badger outing anyway???
It is those who don’t know what the sport is about who are our biggest adversaries. I’m not one to support every rule or law, but I abide by these rules to remain as free as I can. In a perfect world we could all run free and do what we would like and there would be no negative impact. Realize that what our members have accomplished with land managers may be the only thing that has prevented the same people from banning geocaching on those properties. Look around at what has happened in many other states and you will see how some forward thinking on the part of some of our members has made Wisconsin one of the most geocaching friendly states in the nation. Much like fishing and hunting, some regulation is in order to make sure we are able to enjoy the sport for years to come.
Do I like the idea of paying to anything that could be free? Of course not! Will I continue to buy park stickers, boat registration, fishing licenses, etc. in order to do what I love? Absolutely!
It is clear that the sport will continue to grow. With this growth there is no way for geocachers to operate clandestinely, nor do many of them wish to. It is up to those who care about the sport to do whatever we can to ensure it grows in the most positive direction possible.
The WGA and the DNR can go together like wine and cheese. Don’t allow either to spoil, and we will be able to enjoy our sport for a long time to come.
OK Opossum, I have to ask- What are you rambling on about?
We work with land managers simply so they don’t make poor judgement about our sport. We don’t desire more rules, but THEY are likely to know more about their land and the areas they don’t want trampled than we are.
It’s not about regulation; it is about cooperation- something we all could use everywhere we go.
Just got back from a 3200 mile loop around WI and up part of the north shore of Lake Superior. It was 95 in Kenosha and 65 on the lakefront in Duluth so pack accordingly.
One of my highlights was the Skyline Parkway (in Duluth) at night. AWESOME view overlooking the lights of WI & MN. The nearest cache is “Enger Tower” which I recommend, but is closed at night. Also not to be missed on the north shore are Gooseberry Falls State Park and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Most excellent places to see!!
Duh, I guess it helps to look at the map of the whole northern unit. Thanks Decrepit
Anyone care to comment on camping at Mauthe Lake vs Long Lake campground?
I just checked and all the group sites at Greenbush are currently reserved that weekend.
Does anyone have other suggestions on where to camp in the area?
A few thoughts….
If that thing on the top of the page is the “WGA logo”, it might be worth revamping it with a little more detail before putting it on a coin. It has served us well, but whenever I wear my WGA shirt, people ask what we do with PDA’s and shoe boxes.
Maybe we should put “the hat” on the back?
It seems obvious that we would want a nice raised outline of Wisconsin on the coin.
I was thinking it would be cool to have a set of coordinates on it, but what coordinates would be suitable?
Since the association revolves around this website, it seems that the site name should also be included on the coin also.
Tracking is a great thing, but unless the WGA is going to come up with code and web pages that do it, what are the other options? At one time it seems Groundspeak “sold” a series of numbers to people or groups sp they could be tracked on geocaching.com. Not sure if this is still possible or feasable.
Another idea, although again raising the cost of the coins, would be to buy a bunch of travel bugs with consecutive numbers, and then use these numbers when the coins are printed. The other downside to this is that the coins would show up on geo.com as travel bugs instead of coins.
As Ken mentioned, it really comes down to what we want to do with the coins. If they are going to be mainly for keepsakes, prizes, trading, etc, then they really don’t need the tracking numbers at all.

Congratulations to jthorson for winning the contest! His entry can be found HERE
He knew several other faces and names, but didn’t want to be too greedy.
An honorable mention goes to Karen of Pharmteam!
Jeff has requested that the prise be donated to a worthy cause, so I will see that it is added to the door prizes for the upcoming WGA picnic! Thanks and well done Jeff!
I see two sides to this-
First, I don’t think one really understands geocaching until they have hunted a good number of caches. Until one experiences many of the different types of placements, chances would be slim at best that they are able to create a cache that appeals to the majority of geocachers.
But- There have been a few cachers who placed outstanding caches or brought me to some awesome places, that I would have never expected by looking only at their number of finds.
It really comes down to the individual. There are some super-creative people out there that can and will suprise us. There are also some awesome places that we have yet to see. Can a newbie go out and place a bunch of awesome caches? Although possible, chances are that we will have to continue sifting through marginal ones to find the diamonds in the rough.
Perhaps someday geocaching.com will implement some of the ideas that sites like terracaching.com have put to good use. It should be about quality over quanity and not the other way around.
