For those of you who’s heads spun, use this link to see a nice table: http://www.azgeocaching.com/cache_stats.phpConversely, in WI it seems we can’t manage to mine GC.com for new WI members, or for that matter, even update our Monthly Article (last updated September, 2004)
I think the truth in this case is that the association chooses NOT to post stats on the WGA web site, to prevent from imposing the idea that stats carry an undue amount of importance within the membership.
As for the article of the month- Any member who has an interest is highly encouraged to write and submit an article to Kbraband for review. Unfortunately, there just has not been many submissions to utilize.
I plan to be in this area the week of July 11th, and would be willing to attempt a recovery. Lots of factors unknown to me- i.e. local put-in/take-out, river current low enough to paddle both directions?, etc.
I’ve been meaning to hunt some of your caches anyway.
With 2,500 caches in hundreds of towns all over the state, there will be no way to make everyone happy. My suggestion- Deal with it!
It should be remembered that these Travel Bugs do not get listed in the name of the original hider. As neat as a jeep may be, we all have the opportunity to create our own bugs, which is in itself a great thing.
I’d rather have a rubber chicken than a jeep any day!

Look to Robin’s left.

What is Commander Bob holding?
Isn’t that one of those bananna rats? I didn’t think there were any in WI?

But “it’s not MY job!” I hung that pic up by the time clock at work a few years ago.
Jimbu, that tidbit was about Garmin Mapsource’s superiority over Magellan’s sorry Mapsend software, not the GPS units.
Congratulations on your recent milestone! Hitting that many caches a day in the northwoods is a great accomplishment.
If you ever want to meet a bunch of great people, please do attend an event. Some have temporary caches, and some don’t. Some are just about getting together for a meal and sharing the joys of our sport. Many people have found as much joy in meeting other geocachers as they found in hunting caches. In any case it’s up to each individual to choose whether or not to log their finds online.
Congratulations on joining the ranks of the paperless!
You can upload seperate gpx files into your PDA- i.e. if you want to add one (or 10, 300, etc) they will need to be spun as an new individual file and plucked as a new channel. For instance, I commonly spin and pluck seperate pq’s for the SE WI, Central WI, and Illinois. It’s handy when traveling as I then have seperate files to work from within the PDA. Not too convienient for adding only one waypoint, but next time you won’t forget that one anyway.
As for following a route, the easiest method is to use GSAK’s arc/line filter. You will need pq’s of all areas along the route. (You can open multiple pq’s in one GSAK database). Then you basically create a line between two or more waypoints that are known to be on the route. Then use GSAK’s filter settings to filter out all caches that are outside “X” many miles from the line you created.
The instructions are better than most programs- http://gsak.net/help/hs4025.htm
You can write the cache page with the coordinates and such as you desire. Just make sure to uncheck the box that says “Yes, this cache is currently active”. Leave a note in the “note to reviewer” block that the cache is not yet active. If it’s a multi, make sure to include the coords to each waypoint in the block for the reviewer also.
If it’s several stages, e-mailing a gpx file of the coords to the approver(s) makes their job a log easier too.

Yuk, I hate liver.
I muggles are finding it, it’s time to re-think the placement and/or the method used to hide the cache. How long before an innocent muggle calls it into the bomb squad as a suspicious object? If it happens, you could be charged for all costs incurred by the county, which could be thousands of dollars.

I agree fully with Mr. Anderson, but don’t think it’s something that needs to be bothered with now that the event is long gone. It would be a cool thing to do as an edit to a cache page once the event is underway.
Then again, much of the arguement would have been mute had we set up a cache page for temp caches. I believe in flexing “rules” for the sake of the masses. With all the wireless technology expansion, logging on the fly will become a normal practice for many in the not-so-distant future.
Whatever you do, don’t read Dave’s geocaching.com profile.
I was not aware that the new version was 2 disks. This presents a greater challenge. I run Magellan Mapsend & Garmin Mapsourse directly off a hard drive, but both come originally on only one CD.
There is software available for creating a “virtual cd” on your hard drive. The process varies, depending on the software. Without being able to set it up myself, I can’t really offer much more advice. My apologies for raising your hopes prematurely.
Delete the current installation from your pc, then copy the entire cd to a folder on your hard drive. Run the install from the folder you made on your hard drive instead of the cd.
Shout if you need more details.
