It’s too bad that this person has taken this position, effectivly preventing geocaching in state rest areas. Hearing a “no” from any land manager is pretty tough to take without some hard feelings. Thus is the life of a sales person.
In so many cases, just to determine who has authority over a piece of land is a great challenge in itself. I would suspect that instead of an e-mail, a personal visit may have increased the odds a bit. I would tend to believe that it’s harder to say “no” to someone’s face and very easy to say no to an email. In this case, I can also understand where the DOT does not wish for an interstate wayside to become a “recreation area”.
It is unfortunate, but luckly there are many places and people who will continue to embrace the idea of people doing something strictly for pleasure.
Thanks for sharing this; it’s important for all of us as geocachers to know who our friends are.

Time is not of much importance.
If you are interested in driving a second vehicle as far as Eau Claire, let me know. RusselJ at gmail.com

I lost a little data here and there. I fixed round 16, & you will now find what you were looking for.
Thanks for everyone’s kind words!

Congratulations to Miata, the Wisconsin Geocaching Trivia Champion!!!!!
For winning the competition, Miata will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Gander Mountain, and a pre-prepared ammo can cache- stuffed full of trading items and ready to be hidden.
A special thanks to all those who joined in the competition. Thanks also to all the other fellow WGA members who showed support and interest in the game.
Thanks folks, it’s been a lot of fun!
See you on the trails at the 2005 WGA Campout!Cathunter

Thanks, i’ll wait and see if anyone else is interested. I thought maybe someone might have a desire to leave before the rest of their family could, or something of that nature.
Surely someone would rather drive without a carload of screaming kids or something.
If he doesn’t care if his finds get logged online, you could simply load a bunch of coordinates for caches into his gpsr and let him go to town. Just make sure the caches can be found with coordinates alone- i.e. puzzle caches & some others require additional information you can only find on the cache page.
Most really active geocachers upload cache pages onto a PDA, which does away with the need to print out cache pages altogether.
I routinely keep 700-800 cache pages in my PDA and the coordinates for them in my GPSr. This way, I can go all over the place and always have the data needed to hunt caches. I update the data weekly, to help ensure i’m not hunting caches that have been archived. Once you have a system down, the whole process only takes a couple of minutes.
Welcome aboard! This is a great place to meet other WI cachers and see what’s happening in Wisconsin geocaching circles.
I hope you can join us at the WGA campout- it may be as close to you as it ever will be!

Garmin has a trade-in policy for out-of warranty receivers. Etrex Legend is $99.
That’s an interesting question… what is the record for WI cache finds in a single day? Temporary caches don’t count.
Oh wait, this isn’t the trivia forum.
My personal record is somewhere around 28.
I understand Energysaver’s situation, but with programs like GSAK out there, why does anyone use excel for geocaching?

The coded clue we gave …. is actually just that – a clue. But we couldn’t make it that easy, it is a 4 star difficulty after all.

I agree with you JJJTBA. If it’s meant to be that hard, don’t give it away. If someone doesn’t like a really hard cache, they can search elsewhere.
Thanks for challenging us!
All of Magellan’s popular GPS units have “secret” key combinations for changing settings not on the user menu.
One of the most beneficial in my mind is turning off WAAS. This alone increases battery life greatly.
I agree with Randy….. if it’s not a virtual cache- to be considered a find, it must have a logbook to sign.
It is a good practice for a cache owner to make mention of their logging intentions on the cache page. In any case, it is the cache owners decision as to how many finds should be allowed for their cache.
I wouldn’t worry about it.
It was a Magellan.
