With all those finds, I wonder if it’s Geoff or Sara that is the superior cacher?

A hearty congratulations on a fine milestone!!

I can see both sides of the coin in this discussion and can’t say that I care either way if waypoints were released early or not. Meanwhile, I do see about 20 pre-existing caches in the vicinity of the picnic which are ready for hunting.

I’m looking forward to a fun weekend, irregardless of any caches at all.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean for the post to sound “extreme”. A look at some of the past judgements in liability cases should be cause enough for concern.

Geocaching.com has several pages of liability protection written by lawyer(s) that is meant to help protect them.

In the past, there was talk of the WGA becoming a legitimate non-profit corporation. I would think that liability might even be more of an issue if that is the eventual intent.

    Congratulations!!

If each cache has a logbook & the cache owner wants each waypoint to be logged seperately, so be it. Otherwise, log only for completing the multi.

A multi is historically several waypoints leading to a final cache. When designing a multi, hopfully distance between waypoints is taken into consideration. Unless of course there are some awfully nice prizes in the final.

Poison Ivy, Burning Nettles, Bees, Poision Sumac, woodticks, mosquitos, etc, etc. I’ve had my share of all of them over the past few months, and am not greatly effected.

I say raise the terrain or difficulty a point and give ample warning.

Congratulations Chiot! It’s a lot of miles to 200 in the Colfax area. Hope you find your next 200 even more enjoyable.

As with all things, there are varied thoughts on the topic. Want to log finds/ no finds? Go ahead! Don’t want to? Dont! Logging temp caches? Go ahead! Don’t want to? Don’t! There are a number of cachers that don’t log online at all. Nothing wrong with that either.

My point is that there are no rules. Each cacher can do whatever they feel is ok.

Just remember…on your journey, please don’t do anything that may make the rest of us or our sport look bad, and do the world a favor by taking some trash out on your way.

I have not run into this before, as I upload waypoints on the road from my laptop. Sooo, I just tried it. If you are uploading raw “GCXXX” waypoint formats from multiple GPX files, EasyGPS will not duplicate any existing waypoints.

GSAK does even better, as you can select options to add “newer only” or “existing only” when adding waypoints to the database.

Using Plucker, you simply set up a seperate channel for each PQ you want on your PDA. Your PDA is only limited by it’s available memory as to how many seperate PQ’s you can have. Since I live near the state line, I commonly keep 500 IL waypoints in one plucker channel, and 500 WI waypoints in another.

    I hope this helps!

One way would be to run several pocket queries, each one “X” miles from the various towns along your route. Remember, each query will list the caches in all directions “X” miles from the specified point. You can reduce the number of caches by making sure to select only “active” caches, and unselect locationless, event, & webcam caches.

The other method that works well (but has a bit more of a learning curve) is to use the GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) program. (free download). You will still need pq’s of the waypoints around your route, and then the program can set up to filter out all waypoints not within a specified distance of your route.

Holler if you need more help!

Well done to both teams involved! The article presents an entirely different approach than those before. I like it!

I wonder if he would have gotten “Enigma”?

I’m not sure exactly what had changed since the original Washington D.C. cache, but one of the main factors was that Socko had to be present for one to finish the cache. It was a wonderful way to end the series.

Socko’s work schedule and computer problems have prevented him from being available or even log finds for the last few hundred caches he has hunted. It is unfortunate, but probably even moreso for him and his family. The great caches they have given to SW WI are many of my best memories of geocaching. I’m just glad to know that he’s still out their hunting whenever he gets the opportunity.

This is a fun thread! On a lower difficulty cache, I usually just carry my GPSr, but it depends on the distance and terrain. I have been meaning to clean out/re-stock my pack anyway so this is also convienient! Here goes-
    3 Replacement logbooks
AAA & AA Batteries (6 each)
    handful of pens
    Sharpie (the marker)
Toothbrush (to get the bugs out)
Waterproof matchstick containers (one with matches)
    Handspring Visor (PDA)
    Spare PDA stylus
    2 pocket screwdrivers
    2 empty zip-locks
256 MB jump drive (back-up data)
    Small LED flashlight
    LED Headlamp
    Pepper Spray (for mean dogs)
    Spare car key
    Compass
    Roll electrical tape
    Pocket knife
    Rolaids (roadtrip food kills)
    Several Geocaching Brochures (hand outs)
    WGA button
    Geocaching.com button
    MNGCA button
    Small spool of survival cord

The DEET and the water sometimes get jammed in there too.

In the cachemobile I have another pack with several changes of clothes, swim trunks, water socks, towel, and shoes.

Glovebox- Spare DEET & TP, sealed in a zip-lock. A bunch of maps which I very rarely look at. I do sometimes print out aerial photos 30-40 square miles each showing all the caches. It helps to prevent backtracking.

Oh. and of course my Garmin, which is in my hand or at my side. (Plugged in while in the car)
