That call is really up to the cache owner. With a cache such as Three Bad Ribs, i’d say that each waypoint is worthy of a seperate log, but again, it is the cache owners decision what to allow.

I commonly think of the people here as my friends. Friends can generally speak their mind to each other without sugar-coating everything. We should all be able to share our thoughts here without being attacked or scolded. I love these forums. I respect the folks that plan and build everything the WGA does. I can also tell someone i’m not particularly happy about something without losing my respect for them. That’s one of the great things about having friends.

Um, I think the thread was intended as a joke.

If trading instructions are posted on the cache page, I would hope that they are followed.

If there are no instructions, I would say the unwritten rule is “trade fairly”. This does not necessarily mean bug for bug, or item for item. Bugs are about moving, not trading. (Bug motels are the exception) I will take a bug and leave an item or if the cache is light, I will leave something and take nothing. More often than not these days, my main interest is the logbook, and I don’t trade at all.

Personally, I would prefer for “trade up” to be the rule. When I leave a $20 trade item in my cache, I expect at least a equal value item in return. Unfortunately, it does seem to work out that way.

Be good, Have Fun, Trade Nicely.

Could it be that you have just gotten spoiled from using the Roadmate?

If you want to trade my Garmin for your Sportrac for a few weeks, i’d be interested.

I too have enjoyed the Gandy Dancer. There are a few fun caches along the trail themed to the Yeti (Bigfoot) sightings that were reported around Danbury. The possibility of running across Bigfoot adds another interesting aspect to the hunt.

I have never thought an external antenna would be too important. My Garmin Legend works fine in the car (has never been on the dash) and even gets decent reception as I sit here at my PC (several feet from the windows with closed blinds). The time I always totally lose reception is in pine trees.

I’d like to hear more from those who use an external.

    A great article indeed!

I’m not up to speed with people’s real names….who are the other cachers named besides House of Brew?

Ahhh.. see!! Proof! The picnic IS too far south.

    That’s right…. BAN ALL TRAVEL BUGS………

    No, just kidding!!

I have seen a quite a few people recording bug numbers. Last I knew, it’s not even necessary to pick one up and drop one off; all that has to be done is post a note on the bug’s page and it gets added to your list of bugs found.

As they say… To each, his own.

Guilty as Charged- I don’t complain, I comment.

I find it most interesting that my most memorable caching trips were in areas that there are no cachers.

I use a Garmin Legend also. They seem to be good for about a year of heavy use. Mine has had the screen ribbon cable go bad, the clickstick sticks, and the grip that surrounds it comes loose. These are all things common to the Etrex series of Garmin units.

I think the Magellan is comparable to the Garmin. Not a bad unit. I would research the warranty situation.
As for batteries, I get about 8 hours on energizers, 4-5 hours on rechargeables (I use energizers). Things of importance- make sure WAAS is turned OFF. It seems to have a major effect on battery life. Backlight & compass is tough on the batteries too. I bought a car cord, which powers the unit while I am on the road.

Garmin has great customer service too. Out of warranty, $100 and a trade-in gets a new (refurbished) unit. For that price, I don’t think i’ll be getting that $450 color unit anytime soon.

I never had a GPS when I was near any of our radar systems, but I did get rather ill once from the EMI. After that, we received training which mentioned that not only will it make you sick, but it will make you sterile. For some of us, that might be a good thing. :O

Happy, but sorry, to say i’ll be somewhere in the north west sector of the state that day. Wish you all fair weather and following winds.
