I thought I’d start Sunday morning with “It was Jesus” and “I saw a man”, but I’ll certainly take some requests as long as it ain’t a “Sunday Morning Coming Down”.

Naturally, you will have to play “Rock Island Line”

That’s the ticket Jeremy! Thanks for all your work on the site!

Not great for dial-up users, but USAPhotomaps does this well, and offers both USGS topo maps or satellite photos. I’ve been using it for a few years and think it’s the best FREE thing on the market.

the naturalist wanted to keep the visitor’s center open, but also wanted to go and hunt caches, so she put JThorson in charge. We stayed back and made sure nobody made off with the stuffed coyotes.

Meanwhile, while Jthorson stripped and was being checked for ticks by The Beast, I attempted to make off with a coyote. Unfortunately, it was mounted. I tried to get a picture of Commander Bob mounting the coyote, but it was too late. Needless to say, the animal didn’t appear very happy about the whole ordeal.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing a DNR building adorned with the WGA Banner.

Thanks to Beth and the rest of the staff at the Bong Recreation Area for supporting Geocaching in Wisconsin!!

I may be misinterpreting your comment……..

    That’s easy to do here…. 😀

I was referring to what the coordinates bring me to see- something that will make me go “WOW”

    the surroundings and the views.

The cache is just an add-on feature.

Should I be able to publish a review of said flashlight without having never tried it? I don’t agree with it.

Looks like another case of “different strokes for different folks”. 🙄

In the end, my final opinion on the quality of any cache comes from what I find (or don’t find) at the given coordinates.

I have Garmin Etrex Legends and Magellan 600s. As others have said, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I would take either of these units over a Yellow Garmin Etrex any day, as for me a GPS is of little use without detailed maps.

I’d be willing to loan you a 600 for a couple of weeks if you are interested.

Of course I will be paddling to the island.

It’s always good to have a back-up plan.

Cacher_Chick is planning to ride up with me and she didn’t like my idea of “wading” to Rock Island if we missed the last karfi.

Questioning the Rock Island Karfi Schedule-

    quote:

    May 27 -June 30

    10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. daily,
    plus 11 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. weekends

Should I assume that Friday is included as part of the “weekend” schedule?

I’m interested but couldn’t find your e-mail address OR handle on geocaching.com

    Yay!

A geocaching event that does not require me to get up early in the morning!

I can bring 1 Garmin and a couple of Magellans if it takes place on the eve of June 3rd.

I fall into the category of not caring one way or the other. Geocaching.com has provided a handy place for people to find coordinates for geocaches. It is not geocaching. It is a database that has been posted for our use. No one has been prevented from logging temp hides on it, so those that choose to can do so.

Personally, I enjoy caching and have grown to find Internet logging to be more of a burden then a need. I’ll log when I feel something needs to be said about a cache. Beyond that I hope everyone plays the game to their own liking, and is able to find that certain something they seek in doing so.

I will be going through Milwaukee on my way there and could easily make room for one cacher with camping gear. Feel free to e-mail me via geocaching.com if you are interested.

in reply to: Newbies, and placing caches #1761730

Most definitely, I wasn’t suggesting a rule of any kind. Being another in an area of high cache density, it still holds true as a suggestion. Particularly, I recommend that new cachers complete a few of each cache type (traditional, multi, earth, virtual, etc.) before they make their own placement.

There are a lot of cachers that do great with new placement, while just as many perhaps don’t understand that each cache should have a certain “wow” factor. Hunting some of the past COTM’s and COTM nominations is perhaps one of the better ways to get one’s feet wet in the sport.

in reply to: Newbies, and placing caches #1761722

This is something I have been promoting for a good while now. I see it as a two-part problem, the first being newbies that place caches which don’t meet the “wow” factor many of us are pursuing. This breeds more caches of a similar variety, as other newbies follow the example.
Secondarily comes the fact that I have done a few awesome caches that were placed by folks with a limited find count, but now those same caches have since been neglected.
This is definitely a topic that should be covered in every introduction to geocaching class along with being shared between cachers on the trails.

    Well said Marc!
