As one develops into a full-fledged geocacher, they begin to realize that it is not important. All other true geocachers will understand.
I guess you are just not there yet.
Cache On!!Someone please enlighten me. GMO???
Genetically Modified Organisms??Wow! You folks have been on the move! Congratulations!
I am awaiting a call back regarding special rates for a group of us (WGA members) to go. I’ve always wanted to cache the one in Manitowoc, but this works even better.
I will post more when details become available.
I too, would like to see the event at Buckhorn or Mirror Lake. I’d also like to get together with others & make a group camp of the weekend.
I think GSAK is the only program that does this well. You can make a line of two or more waypoints along your route and then set a distance from that line that you want all caches to be shown.
Another alternative is to download several pocket queries based off locations within the vicinity of your route.
How far you are going and what the cache density is along the different sections of your route will be a factor, as most GPS units only allow 500 wayoints to be stored. Having a laptop along with gpx files of all the area you may go is my preferred way.
Well said Cheesehead Dave! Thanks for posting!
I think this is truly a great thing that you have both done for the rec dept, and for WI geocaching!
Will there be some new caches hidden for the event?
Way to go Wizbit, on both your finds and your hides.
Congratulations, House of Brew! Capturing the Flag is a great cache for a milestone.
Oh, and you can use my grill anytime.

Here’s a link to the Quicktime Movie of the campsite. It is 2.4 MB.

I don’t use cachemate so I’m only guessing when I say that I believe it is similar in function to the other programs available. As far as I know, cachemate is designed for storing and reading cache pages, not for uploading waypoints to a GPSr.
I upload all the waypoints for the area I am headed into my gps using GSAK or EasyGPS on my home pc or laptop. I store the cache pages on my Palm, so that I can read the pages when I get there.
If I’m going on a road trip that spans a greater distance, I take my laptop along- pre-loaded with a separate GPX file for each block of area I intend to travel. (I divide WI into 4 blocks of area).
Not the info you were looking for, but maybe you will find it useful. 8)
Just a little data- take it for what it’s worth.
A map of the COTM’s shows that they are actually spread much in proportion to the density of caches across the state. The Eau Claire/Menomomonie area is the one area with a higher cache density but no COTM’s. I will speculate that this may be due to the lack of active WGA members in that area.
Of the 26 COTM’s thus far, only 7 have been archived.
9 were/are Regular Caches
13 were/are Multi-Caches
2 were/are Mystery Caches
2 were Event CachesThe furthest distance between COTM’s is 304 miles as the crow flies.
I have found 8 of them and expect to hunt the majority of the remaining active ones within the next few months. (But i’m not a planner.)

I wish I could claim the island as my own…. it belongs to an all too distant family member who has had it for 30 some years. I have been given squatters rights provided I help to keep the place up.
The lake is part of the Turtle/Flambeau Flowage. The shoreline is 80% state owned, and mostly sand beach. Loons and muskies rule the area. I took the pic last fall after Grousetail’s “Northwoods Breakfast Event Cache” in Arbor Vitae.
It truly is Heaven! -
