I’m not much of a planner, but i’d like to be in your shoes this weekend.
My planning usually ends with the decision on which direction to head. North? South? West?
East only goes a mile or so before i’m in Lake Michigan.

I see nothing wrong with using your real name, if you so desire. I generally don’t use my real name online.
I also like that some cachers have seperate accounts for their “team” finds. There have been a couple of “teams” that racked up high numbers when it fact they were caching apart from each other. “Timmy” might have 100 finds and “Mary” might have 100 finds, and they might have another 50 they found tegether, but that does not mean their team really has 250 finds.
Then again, I don’t really give a hoot how someone else compiles their stats. It has absolutely no effect on how much I enjoy my next find.

You should have tied a micro cache around it’s neck. The tracks in the yard could be the first set of waypoints. A new variation on a traveling cache. I would probably rate it a 5/5, depending on the eventual terrain.
This gives “CacheCows” name a whole new meaning.
BUMP!! June 19th!!
I think the great time we all had at the campout is well known. I also think the board clearly understands how much we appreciate the work they put into it.
I don’t believe it is going to benefit any one to vote for the campout, as it is a given. Nor will it help anyone choose where to go during their next few months of caching. The campout is gone. It is a memory, and a great one, at that.
Not that my thoughts are likely to steer anyone else, but i’m going to choose a regular cache to vote for. I would prefer to see WGA events ineligible from being voted COTM. And that’s all i’m gonna say about that.
I think this is a perfect thread to encourage more people to put some meaningful info into their profile page. As much as i’d like to get to know each of you, for many, your profile page is the closest I will ever get. Blank profile pages bring me much misery.
It’s also great practice for those who have always thought of making their own website.
http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=fd0dfee3-6fb2-45f3-828a-a51f806bd516I would like a little help here too. I was hoping to get some at the campout, but there were too many caches to find.
I just got back from a ride around the Fox river in Kenosha County. Many homes and at least 1 cache that I know of are standing in a couple feet of water. Silver Lake is flooding across across the road at the south end. I pray that our friends Bob & Pat of Team Cashing Out are on high ground. (Give us a holler, will ya?)
“For The Fox River Near New Munster…The Latest Stage Is 13.47 Feet At 10 AM Sunday. Bankfull Stage Is 9.0 Feet And Flood Stage Is 10.0 Feet. The River Should Reach A Record Crest Of 14.5 Feet At 7 PM Monday. The River Should Then Remain Steady Through At Least 1 AM Wednesday.”
On another note, the windsurfers are having a hayday of it. There were at least 30 out on Silver Lake.
My mood completely determines how my day of caching goes. Yesterday, I drove 50 miles into the Crystal Lake area with intention of picking off a handful of caches. I arrived at ground zero of the first cache on my trip and determined it was 200 yards off the trail in a wet area. Normally, this would be ok. Yesterday, I just didn’t feel like it. I had a nice hike without hunting the cache and spent the next couple of hours driving around the countryside. (my other true passion) I’m finishing off the weekend with no caches hunted. It happens, and it’s not a matter of being burned out. Some weekends are for caching frenzies, some are for reflection. I like it that way.
My problem comes when I really feel like caching but also feel like taking the boat (or yak) out on the same day. Many weekends I wake up torn as to which choice to make.
That problem will go away as soon as I win the lottery and take up caching and fishing on a full-time basis.
These girls are storming up finds all across the area. Congratulations on 300! Will we see 400 by the June breakfast?

I totally agree with this idea. Pocket queries should be able to filter in ways such as these.
To clarify my previous statement, I would never condone cache bashing. I’m too nice of a guy for that. There are plenty of nice ways to tell someone that I didn’t think much of hunting a cache the middle of the wal-mart parking lot.
I liked 99% of the caches that I have hunted thus far. I simply hope to steer newer cachers so that in the future, new hides will continue to provide either an enjoyable hike, or an enjoyable hide, and not just another find.
Although I don’t like the idea of a bunch of caches popping up in parking lots, the problem is that if there is one, there will be copycats. I have not seen any real problems in WI- yet.
I’ve heard a lot of interesting comments, but few suggestions on how to prevent large numbers of poorly executed cache placements.
What would Jeremy Irish say if told that we wanted justification for each cache placement? A “board of approvers” would be elected to vote on each placement. A stricter set of placement rules would have to be written and posted.
Another idea mentioned in the past was the cache rating system. The first X number of finders rate the cache on a 1 to 5 scale using a few pre-written questions. Pocket queries should be able to filter caches based off their rating.
As for virtuals, I think they are fine. I also think that if it is possible to place a real cache, there is no reason for it to be a virtual. That is what the rule is. Virtuals are still allowed- if it is not physically possible to place a real cache.
More importantly, set the example! When you write a cache page for your own hide, make it descriptive enough so that each user can determine if it is something that they want to hunt. When posting a find, tell the cache owner what you really think.
Everyone has their own idea of what makes a cache “worthwhile”.
The sport will be around a long time. Whether it becomes lame or not depends on us.

Your team’s accomplishments are beyond impressive! The amount of CITO you do makes it that much more meaningful. I hope you keep the spirit to 5000.
Thanks everyone for your kind words!
It’s those of you that take the time to share your special places and creative ideas that make it all worthwhile.
If it ever stops raining, i’ll see you on the trails!!
