If you are on a pokey old dial-up connection, having the pocket queries on your pc would allow you to look over all the cache pages without going online. If you are going to a certain area to cache, it is also handy to have pocket queries covering those areas, as you could sort the ones you want to hit in various ways.

If your gonna be serious about caching- I recommend getting a Palm Pilot. Just wait until you see us at the campout beaming all the waypoint information over the infra-red connection.

Oddly enough, I have read that Avon “Skin-So-Soft” is an excellent mosquito repellant.

I think I would try every repellant I could find until you find something that agrees with you better. The mosquitos at many caches I have done were thick enough to drive me off. I’d break a little sweat and the repellent would wash away and in seconds I was eaten alive. Now I keep the can on my side at all times (in season).

There are also hats with mosquito netting that protects your face & neck, but the rest of you will be fair game.

It has been fun just “watching” as he has jumped from county to county in search of “just one more”. Many, many miles this last few months!

Congratulations Jeff; and thanks for all the laughable log entries on your way to 1000!

In another dream, I learned that I will find ALL of The Lil Otter’s hidden caches. She has archived a good many of them recently, but who would have guessed looking at this-

    Congratulation Mostpeople!

Looking over the logs, it appears Mostpeople are migratory. Over 100 of their most recent logs (since November) have been out of state.

Simply put, no GPS is perfectly accurate. Position accuracy will vary with GPSr configuration (receiver and antenna), location (geographic latitude, and surrounding objects possibly blocking reception), satellite constellation status, and ionosphere conditions.
Expensive survey-grade GPS receivers would generally be more accurate than the consumer-grade receivers that we use.

With these things in mind, consider the likelyhood that the cache owners GPSr is several feet off when the waypoint was set. Your GPSr is also several feet off. The combination may get you right on target, or it may put you the maximum distance away that both measurements combined will lead you.

I don’t mind 20 feet, unless I’m looking for a matchbook-sized container. Then, I let the GPS get me close and put it away. The rest is trying to think like the cache owner.

I don’t own a Magellan, but based off the popularity I think you will be happy with your purchase.

One of the first things I did after purchasing my GPSr was invested in a nice clip-on strap that attaches to the unit. When i’m out and about, the strap is wrapped around my wrist, neck, or belt loop.

You can have my GPS………when you pry it from my cold, dead, hand.

Thanks to all who offered ideas! I’m still shopping.

For those interested, Canoecopia 2004 – The World’s Largest Paddlesport Expo, is next weekend in Madison.

Of course there is plenty of caching to do in the area too!
