I want to thank those who have responded for doing so. You have each made it clear that you are all qualified and worthy of the openings on the board.
I wish you each the best of luck and look forward to meeting each of you in the future.Win or lose, may your words and actions bring a positive light on geocaching in WI!
Can you say “Jealous”?
Please keep us posted on what you find in it’s strengths and weaknesses.01/23/2004 at 11:23 pm in reply to: Opinions wanted – what should your board be doing for you? #1744135quote:

And by the way, Cathunter, nominations for the WGA board are still open.
I felt bad to refuse nomination, but between work and school, it’s nearly impossible to make time for little else. On top of it, I now have a Saturday class that is going to prevent me from attending all the event caches that are scheduled.
Thanks guys; although the info is of little use for our purposes, at least the mystery is solved.
01/23/2004 at 1:21 am in reply to: Opinions wanted – what should your board be doing for you? #1744132I am going to suck up some more server space by rambling on, beginning with saying that I think the present board has put the WGA on the right track and has already done many great things. I am also very impressed with the comments that the potential future board members have made and the ideas presented. I hate to think that anyone nominated will be voted out, but that is the way the system works.
I was at first not so understanding of the need for a board, and thought that the Chicago group had the better idea by stating- “What we are not…
We are not a governing body of Geocaching
We are not a group that has regular monthly meetings with officers, etc.
We are not a group that requires dues or any subscriptions”I am no longer so sure. I see some big problems with cache density and the effects of non-rotation of caches in areas that are being damaged by traffic.
I wonder how powerful the voice of the approver can become and remain within geocaching guidelines. Will we get to the point that caches can & will be archived after a certain time period?
Can the WGA control the destiny of what caches are disapproved or archived without stepping outside of the guidelines of geocaching.com?
At what point will geocaching.com become a pay site and how will this effect caching in WI?
How much would it be worth to remain an active geocacher or a WGA member? (or what steps will be taken to maintain & raise the value of being a member?)
Should the WGA have a server and site ready to go online in the situation that Groundspeak no longer supports our needs as it does today?
How long will caches be allowed to be “temporarily unavailable” without archiving them?
When caching becomes more prominent in the northern part of the state, how will the WGA react to make it geocaching friendly, as it has done for the southeastern section?
The future is bright yet holds a lot of challenges. I look forward to the possibilities.
A big thanks to all the members; present and future!

Sorry to hear of your loss. My “Buffy” passed on well over 15 years ago. My first cache was placed as a memorial to remember him by.

I’m not sure if there are any in India though. Who would know about geocaching there?
The better question is how does an American stay inconspicuious while caching in India?
9 potentially active caches in India

Not quite the same, but over the New Years weekend I went on a cache hunt that was 825 miles round trip. As the crow flies, it would have been much shorter, but there were plenty of caches to find along the way.
I wish I would have saved a tracklog of the journey. Another thing to remember next time.
That would be “Holler”ing for Breakfast
I did it on X-mas & it was *%&! cold. But, part of the fun for me is doing what I would never do otherwise. I dove right in. (I always keep extra clothes in the car.)
Maybe it would be good to write a script to pull user names off the WGA’s “recent logs” page. This would prevent you from tracking inactive teams and also develop a record of new cachers. The Beast had great records, until the number of new cachers became so great that hand written records became way too much of a task.
A link to e-mail you on the site would be good too.

I still have to write something to gather all of the WI geocachers, but I have over 100 people I’m keeping daily stats on.
Your page looks to be coming along nicely. Congratulations!
As the cache page says; you will need to get your feet wet. Ice or rocks is not an issue. Have fun!

I hate to dim your hopes and hope you are more successful than the others before you who have tried and failed.
Groundspeak has protected the site rather well from people who try automated gathering of stats. IP blocking and other methods of prevention are in place. Part of the reason is that the tactics used in the past required too much of the server. We have all noticed the server is already overloaded each weekend.
If you want to compare manually entered stats for WI cachers, Cheesehead Dave has a good site HERE.
There is also a national database HERE, but again, it is manually entered information provided by each individual cacher.
I wish you luck!
Hi Jon! Welcome to our forums. I know little about the Lowrance units, the software version 6.0 is about $100, which can be upgraded to 6.2 via a download. This pricing is comparable to Garmin’s software. Only other simple option I am aware of would be to find someone with the software to burn a copy for you. Notice I said simple, not legal.
Good luck!
