mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm….
cheeeeeeze
The future looks bright for the WGA!
Open minds will accomplish great things. I see a lot of great things to come. Well Done!
It’s became apparent through the past few weeks of posts made on these forums that each and all of the candidates would make a great addition to the future of the WGA.
In a life that only offers us a little bit of time in this world, giving some of that time to an association such as this is no small offering. I thank each of those who have helped to make WI geocaching what it is.
Some amazing things have taken place here in the past few years. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for our sport. It is the members of the geocaching community that will ultimately decide what the sport becomes. Hopefully, as a group, we can all push it in the right direction.

Another idea – we could do a poll, maybe quarterly to decide where to donate excess funds to. A little off the subject of the Premium Member idea but that’s ok.
Off the subject, yes, but I like it. I think someone else mentioned making park benches that could be donated to parks. I can forsee making a bunch of these benches with an engraved nameplate on the backrest- “Donated by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association- N42 37.698 W88 07.712”.
What a great way to promote the sport and open doors with parks!
I’m not sure that the number of members as posted has any truth to it.
A large portion of teams in the member list signed in once in past years never to return, yet are still listed there. As cool as it might be to think that we have “1000” members, it would be a false statement.
Hopefully in the future the member list will coincide with each member enrolling or renewing their membership. If they do not renew, they should be removed from the rolls.quote:

all the post here have been great! very interesting that jeremy Irish was the one to archive that listing. also note if you click the owner profile for that cache that it also links to jeremy….. hmm maybe he is the one who placed it?If Im ever in the area I will for sure do Pike Powder Hike, never been to the park but looks like a cool place. anyone know of any other caches that have been around for awhile feel free to share.
The site was adopted and re-designed by Jeremy in August of 2000. Any data prior to that on geocaching.com must have been imported from Mike Teauge’s original database. Interestingly enough, he still occasionally posts on the USENET newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav, which is where geocaching actually started.
I would be willing to guess at a couple of reasons-
The IL DNR mandates the use of see-through containers of a limited size on state land.
WGA members have made a continued effort to “raise the bar” on cache quality. Setting the example for newer geocachers is a good way to help ensure quality cache placement continues. IL has lacked an active association until more recently.
Hopefully with the birth of Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois, their group will work to provide the same kind of guidance. They do have some great geocachers on their team!
Seeing that the thread is getting a little long, I thought I would recap the details of the event as they are planned thus far.
- The event will be held on Jun 23-25.
- A group campsite has been reserved. (Usage fee TBA) (You have the option to reserve your own “private” site if desired.)
- There will be a few temp caches placed for the event and there are a few regular caches to seek on both islands. The event will revolve more around hiking, camaraderie, and the joys of island living. (The island is heavily wooded and has a wonderful trail system).
- Attendees will need to plan their schedules to ensure they don’t miss the boats. (Car Ferry to Washington Island and Karfi to Rock Island.
- At least one of us (me) will be sea kayaking at Rock Island. Wish me luck as I pursue the Isle of Poverty and Treasure cache (weather permitting).
Rock Island is a truly amazing place that anyone with an interest in history and adventure would truly enjoy. If you are thinking about it, plan on it! You will not regret it.
The members have spoken and the board has listened!
Thanks to those that participated in sharing their opinions, there will be no further deleting of posts in the WGA forums.
I wish everything could be this easy.

Sorry to be a bit off-topic, but I just wanted to make sure you realize that you will be right next to some of the best hiking and caching in all of Wisconsin- Devil’s Lake State Park. If you have not experienced it, it has the greatest trails and overlooks that I have ever seen. A “must do” for visitors to the area!
Edit- NO
Delete- NOLots of good thoughts here!
I think we all wish that the forums had a simple spell-check feature. Unfortunately, most of the commonly used BB systems do not make it standard issue. When I feel the need to use proper spelling, I type my posts into Microsoft Word or a similar word processor that does spell-check, and then cut and paste it into the forum. This takes 2 seconds longer, but is much more effective than having to go back and correct my spelling later. The downside of being able to edit a post on the boards is that the poster could completely change what was said, or even delete all of his or her words, leaving nothing but an empty post with a single character in its place. This would be no different that deleting the post altogether.
Our BB system is in the process of being overhauled (thanks Jeremy!) and I know that with the new phpBB systems, the board can be set to prevent users from editing and deleting posts. (Moderators can be allowed this ability)
One of the other great functions that can be used on the newer BB systems is the ability to create polls in which all the users can vote on an idea. With at least one other issue in the past, we voted (yes or no) to make a change in our operations. This is the fairest way for the membership to make decisions. While the board of directors does have the final say, they would quite surly agree to the wishes of the majority vote.
I would like to start the voting process on this issue.
Please post your vote in the format-“Edit-No” or “Edit-Yes”
and
“Delete-No” or “Delete-Yes”To keep the vote orderly, please do not include any further comments in posts to this thread. As it stands, if you do post undesired comments, I could delete this entire thread.
01/31/2006 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Cast Your Votes In The 2006 Board of Directors Election #1738774I’m sorry if my post sounded to some like an attack on Wizbit. It wasn’t meant that way at all. Some of you have not been around long enough to know what has really taken place here.
The fact is, Jeff is one of my favorite cachers of all time. It bothers me deeply to see what has become of his additude towards the WGA and certain board members. While there might be a good reason behind this, that is a much deeper story that only he can tell.
I think the people that know me also know that Jeff is welcome at my table anytime.
