Glad you took our advice and headed over for this one. We knew you’d like it! Also, you’re welcome for the hide. When we found it it was just kind of lying there. We didn’t think it was meant to be that way so we hid it a little better…same place…just better!

I wouldn’t want to be going here today! Way too much water!

Good for the caches, but sad for WGA, with the numbers of people nominating and/or voting on COTM, 6 or 7 votes may be enough to win the blue ribbon link for the cache page.

I disagree with this opinion. If you pull up any cache in these areas, you will find that people from all over visit them.

Also, how many of the 50 people who logged GCNK8F were from other areas of the state? This cache is in one of those out of the way areas, but won COTM in June of 2005.

Very rarely will we find a cacher who has visited all the nominated caches. If you find one you think is great, put it out there for the rest of us to see. If there are enough people who agree with you, it may just win the blue ribbon. Someone may have done the cache on the first of the month and forgotten how much they liked it until they saw it nominated. It could happen…
(Better, not better, it’s all based on one’s perception of the cache to begin with.)

It’s awesome to see Lorrie back on the job! Can’t wait to get up there this summer and find out where she placed this one!

I’ve done many of her caches and haven’t been disappointed yet.

Any chance you’ll post the link to the cache page here so we can all see which this thread has been about?

Yikes! Bob and I often do this, but on purpose. Sometimes we don’t look at the PDA unless we get there and can’t find the cache. Ususally one of us is sitting at the finder’s tree only moments after arriving to the suspect area. (And if he’s found too many that day, I cheat! I let him walk in front of me so A) I get a better view, and B) I can peek at the PDA without him seeing me…I fess up though after beating him to the tree.

Newbie or not, if Geocaching and/or just driving around are something you plan to do often, why not spend the extra $50 now and get turn-by-turn capabilities?! You can always wait to buy that software for a while. Places like Gander Mountain and Best Buy often have package deals on GPSR’s. (A couple of weeks ago we took Team Little Bug shopping for a GPSR. He ended up getting a Garmin eTrex Legend C for a great price…right around $200. Since it was a package, he also got a computer cable, a lighter plug, Mapsource Topo, a carrying case and a bike mount. Then he talked the MGR into a discount on a car mount.) So…the deals are out there. You only need to take some time to find them.

One thing you may want to think about doing is going to an event. There are several coming up (in fact, one will be hosted by Team Little Bug on March 11th). You can talk to different cachers and play with their GPSR’s. You would most likely be able to hook up with a group for the day and gain some hands-on experience before making your purchase. It could help you decide which unit you like better.

Bottom line for me is, compass…good-but not necessary (use a hand held), mapping…important-but not absolutely necessary, turn-by-turn directions…WONDERFUL-but not an absolute. (oh…did anyone mention that the software allowing turn-by-turn also has info such as hotels, restaurants, points of interest, etc. on it? BONUS!)

    Good luck to you!

You’re welcome! Those things are pretty cool for people in need! Bob and I just gave one of our GPSR’s to his sister. She too will most likely be ordering one soon.

Not sure what this was about because I was out most of the day yesterday, but…here’s a link about something geo-related and it WAS allowed: http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum13/HTML/000063.html

I agree with Cathunter that these items should be allowed on the forums. Let those reading the threads decide whether or not they want to buy them.

Oh…and didn’t we all recently see a thread about some commercial WI Geocoins? I don’t remember anyone arguing about selling them on here.

Met with most of this team yesterday. Spent a couple of hours with them. Due to temp outside we decided to “wrap our hands around a warm sup of coffee” instead of venturing into the out of doors.

There will be no stopping this family. They already have a tremendous grasp on what they want to gain from this sport. Congrats you guys! Can’t wait to walk with you!

ps…if you ever see them, better hide your caramel!
