I hadn’t been back since you added the nationwide counties map feature. This is very cool.

Ya know…..since we are at least “sort of” central in the US…. I’m thinking….What about the “itsnotaboutthenumbers.com ALL US COUNTIES Challenge Cache”? You could probably get sponsorship from Exxon/Mobil. You probably wouldn’t have to put the cache out in the woods for at least 2 years!

I’ll get to that right after my Nationwide DeLorme challenge cache… 😈

Prostreet and I were playing around with those one day. He also made an adaptor to put on top of the bottle to increase the pressure and make a taller stream.

Later on, we shot off “bottle rockets” where he pressurized a water-filled bottle with an air compressor, then fired them off where they hit around 100′ in the air.

Being the geek that I am, I took some video, added some cheesy music, and posted it to YouTube

If you’re using Firefox, you can control-click on a link to make it open in a new tab. (Or command-click a link in Safari to do the same thing.)

    Dave,

Did you also have a program for counting counties too?

I might have something like that…

I’ve been working on this for awhile and I think I’ve got most of the bugs worked out. I’m not making a big deal about this (yet) so other than a few others I’ve told, it will just be for whoever happens upon the link in this post.

To use it, you need to be a Premium Member at gc.com because you have to be able to generate the “My Finds” pocket query. Do that, take the zip file you’ll get in an email, and upload it to the site. Among other stats, you’ll get a list of all the counties you’ve found caches in, along with a handy map!

Thanks to Team Deejay for a big assist with the county calculation code!

Please give it a whirl and see if it works for you!

The jeeps were released in August and a score of them arrived at the WGA picnic. While Trudy & I were there, we did not see any of them. We have yet to see or touch a green jeep.

I believe that the jeep horders may be thinking along these lines:

The August goal is DISCOVERY, send a picture of me discovering a bunch of green jeeps.

The September goal is FREEDOM, tell the world that I have the freedom to keep these jeeps as long as I like.

The October goal is ADVENTURE, look at the adventure in dodging my fellow cachers on the trail to evade the issue of holding the jeeps too long.

The November goal is CAMARADERIE I am going to get a picture of me and all the friends I have made by holding these jeeps. Look how much film I have saved.

The December goal is HERITAGE, won’t my children and grandchildren be proud of me for the way I took the fun out of the game for dozens on my fellow geocachers.

In January it will be too late to enter the contest anyway.

In Febrauary their tempers will cool

In March everybody will have forgotten the jeeps

In April I will do my taxes

In May I can dump all these jeeps at the camp out.

In June, the blue Jeeps will be released.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

You can find a database of all the ones I’ve entered here.

Do you ever NOT make a webpage for one of your projects? 😆

I like web pages. It makes my applications OS-independent. 😀

Not quite what you are looking for, but have you tried the caches along a route function on GC.Com. You can specify a particular highway route and then get all the caches within a specified distance of the highway. There is a fairly large number of useful routes already uploaded to GC.com (as well as an even larger number of useless routes originating from peoples houses) and you can search for routes by zip code or city. Once you have a route, you are only a couple clicks from a working PQ of the area.

You can find a database of all the ones I’ve entered here.

I’m not sure if Dave plans on adding any county counting functionality to the DeLorme calculator…

So far, figuring out the math for doing this is eluding me…

I made a small update to the page calculator…

When you get your “My Finds” query from gc.com, you can now upload the ZIP file directly; you don’t need to extract the GPX file out of it first. This means the uploaded file will be a lot smaller and should run much faster.

There’s nothing stopping you from placing caches in Wisconsin…
