Does the little birdie know the time and coordinates so we can all be there to watch? 😆
I think I know the place, but I don’t know the time…
A couple people have asked me this question, and I’ve added the answer to the cache page:
“So only one person can find this cache?”
No, this cache is not a race to see who can finish it first. (although it’s quite an honor to be the first to complete it.) It’s a challenge to get you out to areas of the state to which you’ve never traveled.
Even after zuma finds the final, the challenge will continue on for anyone to complete.
A little birdie told me that he’ll be finding the final on Monday…
12. I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to people all day long and assume they deserve it.
I enjoy setting out expansive themed cache series, but not only can those be difficult to maintain, but they take up a lot of good hiding spots. After a couple of years, when they begin to go weeks without finds, is when I consider archiving them.
By archiving Cheesehead Trivia, it opened up UW-Parkside to a large number of new caches, including the COTM-winning Pink Panther.
In a couple days, I’ll be archiving “?”. Already, new caches have been hidden in places formerly taken up by the earlier stages of the series.
The Clue series is already almost a year old, and I predict that by the end of 2007 it will probably archived as well, and I’ll have a new series ready to go to replace it.
While I enjoy hiding caches, I also enjoy finding them. While it’s Not About The Numbersâ„¢, those three series make up 34 caches that other people have been able to claim finds on. By opening up those areas for new cachers to hide caches of their own, that’s 34 potential new caches that I’ll be able to hunt.
The other reason is that there is a limited number of really good hiding places in my area. As one of the earliest cachers in the area, I was the first to tap the nicer hiding places such as the Parkside trails and Bong. As those spots filled up and newer players wanted to hide caches, they were forced to hide them in less-exciting places. (With many exceptions, of course.) By archiving some of these older caches, it will give newer cachers a chance to place better-quality caches in some prime areas.
My hosting provider updated the PHP scripting engine and reset the maximum file upload size to only 2MB. They have since bumped it back up to where it was before, so if you’ve had problems the past couple of days, go ahead and give it another go.
Thanks to zuma for replacing the sole cache on page 104… all the DeLorme pages for Wisconsin are now covered! Happy hunting!

Ooooooooh, then I’m in trouble! I still have the dealer plate holder on my wifes car that was installed by the dealer when we bought the car new. And, we don’t have a front plate on the car at all. It just doesn’t look good. We’ve gotten several warings on both, but the city has yet to follow up on any. Sure, one time I had to bring the car down and show them the plate on the front, but as soon as I got home, ooops, the plate fell off the front again. 8)
I honestly don’t see the point of a front plate. Have you ever been pulled over by a cop thats in front of you???
Huh. There isn’t even a mount for a front plate on our van…
Looking at the manual, it seems to completely ignore the existance of coordinates. You can only enter in addresses, not Lat/Lon points. There also doesn’t seem to be a way to upload your own waypoints, such as from a GPX file.
Nice for driving, but unusable for geocaching.
Of interest was the disclaimer at the bottom of the page:
PLEASE NOTE: Some state laws prohibit drivers from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. Rand McNally does not accept any responsibility for any fines, penalties, or damages that may be incurred as a result of using the suction mount.
Anyone know if this applies in Wisconsin?

Of course personal attacks have no place in this or any other debate, we all agree there. I never mentioned name calling or personal attacks for a reason, there simply wasn’t any. Go back and re-read the thread in question (we all know which one) and quote me an instance of name calling. Yet I can quote the cries for censorship. Do not defend your actions with false claims.
~CB“Someone” called “someone else” “Chicken****” in “the thread in question”, so I wouldn’t quite say it was 100% personal attack free.
I don’t think that was in response to a call for censorship, it was merely a request to take a well-warranted discussion out of a thread for which it was off-topic, and start a new thread so it could be discussed properly.
As far as converting goes, your GPSr can do the work for you:
Go to your GPSr’s settings and change the units to the coordinate format you have.
Create a new waypoint using your coordinates.
Go back to the settings screen and change the units to the format you need.
View the waypoint you created above and the coordinates will show up in the new format.
For the most part though, all the coordinates you’ll encounter while geocaching are in 42° 12.345′ format.

Are each of those downlaodable?? I have heard of some of the Garmin.. (lower end).. that you can’t downlaod WPTs too.
Of all the GPSrs I have seen in the field, the Legend seems to be one of the more popular models. (which I use.) It’s fairly cheap, does basic mapping, and holds 1000 waypoints which is more than enough. Plus it’s pretty durable, as mine went flying off the top of a van going 55 and still survived.

Be proud of what YOU do and how you do it.
Don’t be concerned about the rest of the world. That statement could, and should apply to so many things around this world, besides geocaching.
I think I’ll get some T-shirts made up! 😆
You are welcome to use that but I have a copyright.. that’ll cost you, ummmm…… {this, plus that , minus those, carry they 1, mumble mumble}
50 cents!!!!!!!!
But it’s not about the numbers… 😉
Yep. I got one in the mail which I used to seed a cache. It was grabbed by someone who took it to the WGA picnic. It’s still listed as being at the picnic, so I wonder if someone picked it up there and took it home as a souvenier?
I haven’t seen a green Jeep since.
I used one on a Midwest flight, and also had it hooked up to my Powerbook running Streets and Trips with live tracking turned on. 500+ mph sounds fast, but watching the trail form on the map really illustrated how quick we were actually moving.
