If it’s your own caches that are having repeated muggle problems, I’d suggest archiving them and finding better locations.
If it’s other caches that seem to have been disabled for a long period of time, you could…
- Write to the cache owner and see if they have any plans for re-enabling the cache
- Wait for a bit. Occasionally, the cache reviewers sweep through the state’s disabled caches and send off emails to the owners asking them to either fix or archive the cache
- Add the caches to your “Ignore” list
Personally, I use GSAK to sort through the caches in my area, and when I’m planning caches to do, I filter the list to only include active caches.
To answer your question, I think a couple of weeks should be more than enough time to repair a disabled cache.
Just for fun, go to a travel bug page and click the Google Earth link there. You’ll get a map showing the bug’s travels, and you can use the Tour mode to zip around from stop to stop.
I’d have to disagree with MB. While 50 may be excessive, I’d at least find a few in your area just so you can see different examples of you they are put together, as far as hiding styles, cammoflage, stuff to put in the cache, etc.
Personally, I probably found somewhere between 5-10 before I hid my first, which didn’t last too long because of a poor container and placement. My second cache, hidden in 2002, is still happily being found over three years later, muggle-free, animal reinforced, and it even survived the Des Plaines River flooding last spring.
There aren’t any rules, however. If you feel you’re ready to hide a cache, go for it! As you find more and more caches, your hiding skills will improve and your second, third, and beyond caches will be even better!

Email? Never saw an email here. I’m glad I thought of checking the forums this morning…

I’m not sure if I really want to play this or not. But, FuFu, what would you say if someone tried to put a tag onto your TB?
Personally, if the hard plastic Shrinky-Dink tag I attached to my bug somehow went missing and someone wanted to put a new tag on the bug, I’m fine with it.

Fine. I’ll leave.

Is there a way to download the entire series? I have done a search on Idiot Savant and come up with about half of them.
Even though they all say “Idiot Savant”, half were hidden by Geniul Loci, and the other half were hidden by Hutt, so you need to look up both of their profiles.
They were all placed on 10/23/2004, so you could use that in your search term as well. (Except for BoB 12ch for some reason has a 10/15/2004 date)
If you do log your DNF (and you should!) and then go back another day and find the cache, when you log the find don’t delete the DNF log. That’s interesting information that might be useful to the cache owner if several people have initial DNFs for the same reasons.
Remember: When you’re at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter isn’t going to be there with your finds/DNF ratio to decide if you get in or not…
Sometimes TBs just appear in caches and if someone unexpectedly finds one that wasn’t listed, they might not know why it was in that cache.
Can you attach your pictures to the log where you picked it up?
You’re addicted is you’ve found this cache…
Forgot to mention this…
Did anyone leave an FM106 sweatshirt at Caesar’s last weekend?
Nice job! Congrats!
BTW… If you want pop-up text over a picture, you should use the TITLE tag instead of the ALT tag. Then it works in pretty much any browser.
I suppose in the future, I’ll label all my caches thusly:

Kudos to you for all your work!
What was the turnaround time in getting your cache approved? I know one of the Chicagoland counties has a similar policy and I hear it literally takes months for a cache to be approved by that county’s park district.

Wayyyyy too much going on with that AZ Home Page. I got dizzy and closed it, before finding anything I wanted to check out further.
Their sidebar information extends farther down than the actual content in the middle of the page.
I like how our site is organized. The main page is a sort of table of contents with little other information. I’m not a huge fan of the “blog” style of home pages. The information just looks a bit too cluttered.
