Uh oh… Might be time to make this a private thread…

I’ve always wondered… Have you found all your caches together? If just one of you finds a cache, how do you log it in? Geoffn? Nsara?

My most satisfying find is the one I just found! I enjoy looking at the numbers and seeing who is hitting milestones, but the bottom line is whether you can get out to find a half dozen every weekend or just a couple a month, as long as you’re enjoying the sport, every find is satisfying!

The Lord of the Rings cache area is were I did my 27-cache day earlier in the year. I agree 100% about the brutality of the terrain in some of those parks. The breakfast is nowhere near Orland Park, but it’s a good reminder that if you’re looking for a change of scenery, there’s a lot of good caching just to the south.

Thanks for all your hard work! I can imagine that if it got any bigger, you’d have no time for caching!

Hmm… looks like an opportunity to remind everyone about the stats page. If everyone keeps their numbers updated there, then hitting century marks would be a cinch to spot!

Yeah. Too bad you have it tied to a cord now, otherwise it’d be MINE!!! ALL MINE!!!

(Erm, ‘scuse me. Sorry ’bout that…)

I agree, that ARC flashlight puts out a ton of light, but it’s only the size of one of thise mini-Maglites. I’ve really got to get one for myself.

    Must… get… flashlight…

(For the unaware, I found a really cool flashlight laying on the ground at one of the State of Mind caches. I suspected it belonged to the Beast, who had been to the same cache earlier in the day. It only took two rounds of “are you missing something” emails before he realized what I had.

Turns out (for reasons I found out later when I returned it) he’s really posessive of this flashlight… )

I was out around the same time yesterday. From the satellite view, there were only 9 in sight and three of those were right on the horizon, so they were useless. By 4:00, there were 11 and I was holding a much better signal.

It still beats the time I tried to get a cache in before work. Drove out to the site and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get a signal, even in open air. There were only 6 birds showing up, and three of those were on the horizon, so I was getting nothing. Headed back to the car and left.

I think I like their policy. It seems to cover all the bases. I find it interesting, though, that you need a permit for a virtual cache. I wonder how they would plan on enforcing that?

Here’s a question for Brian: If a cache is placed in an Arkansas state park, does the Arkansas approver require the hider to furnish the permit number/copy of the permit prior to the cache being approved? If so, that should save a lot of work in determining if the cache is hidden appropriately or not.

I’m assuming we still haven’t gotten a reply back from our DNR yet?

At our next event, I’d love to do something that the Chicago geocachers did last year. The coordinates for their picnic took you to the sign for the site. When your team signed in, you were given a flag and a sharpie to mark your team name and GPSr model. You then went out and stuck the flag in the ground at the point where your GPSr said the picnic coordinates were.

I forget whose GPSr was the closest, but the was a huge range from right on the marker to over 20′ away. And this was with open sky above.

It might make for an interesting study, anyway…

Speaking of golf, here’s another link. GPS may technically be illegal to use per the Rules of Golf. Not that that seems to be stopping anyone…

You guys should be proud of the work you are doing! Hopefully, once Wisconsin has a geocaching policy put into place that is favorable to all, other states will be able to look to your efforts as a positive example as they develop policy with their respective bodies.

Thanks again for your hard work!

    States?

If you’re already counting up Wisconsin finds, is there any interest in breaking down every state? Or just leave it at Wisconsin finds?

Obviously the data would have to go on a separate page…

    Done!

(Although I think the table has reached the bursting point with columns…)

Same as above. I slipped in a small bug that kept some new people from appearing on the list. Go back in and re-enter your totals and she should show up on the list.
