I was questioned once by a Lake County deputy while looking for a cemetery cache one morning. I think the only reason he stopped was because he saw my car parked there pretty early and didn’t see anyone in the park. I told him what I was doing and he shrugged and took off.

Nice. There’s a similar function if you use Parallels, where you can make the Mac side aware of what applications you have installed on the Windows side and associate the file types as you wish. When I get a PQ in my email on the Mac side, I can right-click on it and “Open with GSAK” is one of the options. If I pick that, Parallels will fire up and launch GSAK to import the file.

I wonder if there’s any real difference between Parallels and VMWare? I think I just picked the former because I found a $20 off promotion before Christmas.

Either way, I’ve completely weaned myself off my old PC for geocaching-related stuff and now exclusively use the iMac.

You need a GPS-enabled PDA to play. I think the general gist is that you download a game to your PDA which has to be written for the area you live in. The game instructs you to do certain things, and when the GPS detects that you’ve walked into certain “hot zones”, it will trigger the next part of the game on the PDA.

I’m sure there’s a bit more to it, but I’m pretty sure you need more than just a GPSr to play.

I’m using Parallels. The “Coherence Mode” is stunning, as your Windows apps just pop up with all your Mac apps. Here’s GSAK and POI loader sitting right on top of Safari on my Mac desktop:

    It’s worth every penny!

I see no problem with it. Just like caches that require SCUBA equipment, rock climbing experience, or fifty mile hikes with an overnight stay in the wilderness, not everyone is going to be able to find that cache. But for those who are up to the challenge, it’s a nice diversion from the typical ammo box in a hollow log

Correct. People asked the same question when they were asked to enter their password during the Jeep TB giveaway. Jeremy came on and reassured everyone that yes, entering in your password there was safe, and it was used to verify that only people with GC.com accounts were requesting Jeeps.

My best cache is A Matter of Perspective, but I can’t say why. 8)

The only mailbox cache I’ve ever seen was down in Illinois where you had to find one that was part of the promotion where it had been painted to look like R2D2, grab a number off the side, and use that to find the actual cache container that was hidden nearby. I felt weird just looking over the mailbox for the number I needed. It would have been even more uncomfortable to be looking for a magnetic container.

Jeremy are you sure we didn’t finally get at the computer with that Off Topic forum??????

We’ve had to add some additional storage capacity to handle all the posts, but so far the thread stealers have not killed the server. Keep trying guys! 😛

Oh… I was so hoping that the reason for the servers being down was due to the fact that yall were prepping the site for the WGA coin sale. 😆

It was good to get this problem “out of our system” BEFORE the coins went on sale. We are lucky this did not occur during the geocoin sale, as we probably would have lost some serious coin. 😉
