    The preliminary event page:
    http://wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Events&EventID=224

does list High Cliff state park as the location.

Um, can you help me solve Marc’s Treasure Box? I can’t seem to make any headway with that one…

    Just kidding.

I think that most puzzle cache owners do not want the actual solve of any of their specific caches being published on a public forum. However, if folks want to discuss general “methods” they use (a la marc’s puzzle events and the various discussions I and many others have had with him on some of his techniques to solve puzzle caches) I am sure that is fine with most puzzle cache owners. And as many of these techniques come out, then the puzzle cache creators can try to build more puzzle caches that don’t allow these techniques to be used to solve them! 😈

I agree with zuma 100% on point 4. Now that you say it like that, it’s the 2 month cycle with monthly winners that gives more people a chance at winning a month.

On point 5, it seems that perhaps just a regionalized grouping would make most sense to simply allow for more “winners” and spread them out across the state. As was pointed out, more winners may equal more prizes. On that note, are we going to have a “prize drive” to see if there will be donations for prizes up front instead of as it goes? I am willing to donate a pretty nice coin. We could have a donation bucket at the event in January… (money, geocoins, TB tags, gift cards, etc.)

I would also like to see my idea of prizes from/in support of the WGA i.e. WGA coins, apparel, free camping at events, etc. to further spread the word and show that the game is endorsed by the WGA.

Overall a nice list of subtle rules changes. Nothing too drastic and the nature of the game stays pretty much the same.

And, be sure to have a full charge on your cell phone just in case you need to call the Medivac.

So the reason they are 5-star terrains is the special equipment needed is a caching partner and a cell phone??? 🙂

I predict these 2 will never be found by me. I am a wimp and pale in comparison to the guts and determiniation that Curly Girl Lisa has…

Just be careful searching out that 3rd cache mentioned…

Those folks in omro seem pretty snoopy and like to watch everything happening in their little town 😛

in reply to: LCG for next year #1898525

At a minimum, for me what the LCG game did was to help me prioritze those remaining caches within a sane driving distance from my house. It added a bit of extra incentive to crack those tough kingdom puzzles that sat there staring at me. They probably still would be had it not been for the LCG.

I didn’t go much out of my way to play the game but I did enjoy making a run for a month or two.

Was I offended at all by the competitive nature of a small group of players? Not in the least. But then again, these are people I know in “real life” and understand their personalities. People do come across differently in written forums and in emails than they certainly do when you talk to them in person. Certainly keep that in mind as you read these posts…

Every single player “has a shot” at winning a single month. ANyone who says they do not is flat wrong. Period. Yes, we all may never had a hills-bean chance of winning the whole year, but I say so what. As was pointed out very well by TBC, I don’t intend to compete in any hobby at the same level others may. I am not an olympic athlete. I am not a professional hobbyist. I have a real life, commitment to my job and to my family. First and foremost. Not everyone has as many commitments as the next person. Not everyone is as healthy as everyone else. Not everyone has 5000 cache finds or 150 cache hides.

I think any ideas that “beef up” the prizes for the not-so-serious cachers and LCG players are good ideas. If this means limiting monthly winners to one month a year, great. If it means increasing the prizes for a monthy period, cool.

I think Zuma has some great points about the nature of the game and how it does in fact help out geocaching in our great state. It would certainly be a shame to stop something that is doing at least some good.
