dont underestimate the importance of a baggie. (even in a h20 proof matchstick container…) Many times, having the log in a small baggie is what “saves” the log when a cache is ransacked by a muggle or animal or when that precious O-ring goes.. being able to keep that original log is important to some owners. I actually see value in lonely cache hunters adding baggies to protect these lonely cache log sheets.

Now adding stubby pencils to “BYOP” micro caches seems a bit over the top to me… 🙂

To that note perhaps if a player submits their report on the same day as a find they get a bonus? Worth a thought…

    1) What is to prevent me from visiting a cache on the 19th of the month, logging it on geocaching.com website as visiting it on the 24th, and submitting my LCG report on the 31st? Who is PHYSICALLY verifying the hard copy of the cache log?

I see nothing wrong with this item other than they logged their GC.com visit incorrectly. When you submit your report on the WGA website is of no consequence other than there are players holding off on submitting to keep it “interesting”. As long as the logging is not happening across months, I dont really see an issue with the timing of logging your finds and LCG reports. I’ve seen last minute sneakiness all year but it appears that’s part of the game.

As for physically verifying the physical logs… no one really does that now outside of the LCG.

As for the 2nd item, I add: what is to stop said person from dnf’ing more than once on said cache, getting the terrain points twice and then logging a find and getting the terrain points yet again. That is why I mentioned this already but was shot down on the idea. I think a dnf for points should only be allowed to be logged once per period. Also, they should not be able to score the dnf and find in the same month. Take the dnf and if it’s still lonely next month, try to find it again.

I still think revisits are lame.

Traitors will be punished by any or all of the following:

    – Pelting of expired eggs
    – Duct taped to a pine tree 10 feet off the ground.
    – Tied to a chair and forced to watch 24 hours of Disney channel’s finest tween shows. Then play some high school musical cd’s for the next 24 hours for good measure.
    – Forced to clean marc’s place
    – Random text message and phone calls at all hours from mysterious “women”.
    – Forced to eat pizza flavored combo’s and wash them down with grape crush.
    – Taken to the fox river mall on Black Friday and hiding your vehicle “somewhere” in the parking lot. Nope, you don’t get any hints or coords..
    – Did I mention doing marc’s laundry?

Any others from the rest of the court?

Actually, I think Dave can still play but he should be considered a celebrity player who will be playing for his favorite charity.

Tie “winners” to the period rather than monthly. (for instance, Nov/Dec).

“Officially” recognize more yearly prizes (thanks to s|s for going ahead and doing it this year). I think yearly is much more attainable for most players.

Perhaps give out WGA coins, apparel, “free” campout entry, etc. as prizes? Continue to try to spread the word about the WGA…

To simplify scoring: Get rid of all maintenance points. (as is mentioned, this should be done regardless and we should stop encouraging the replacement of containers without owner consent as has been discussed in another thread) Get rid of “revisit” points, which in my opinion are lame.

Points for a DNF should take into consideration the difficulty AND the terrain. I have DNF’ed many difficult lonely caches and would like “credit” for a tough puzzle solve or jumping through the hoops that often come with 3+ star difficulty lonely caches.

Should a player be able to get points for a DNF and find on the same cache in the same period? Multiple dnf’s? Something to think about.

Somehow increase value of performing a cache rescue and finding those year + lonely caches.

Overall the current model seems to have worked pretty well this year. Yeah there’s always the nuts in the room…

The major thing for me is that it is maintained, and well laid out.

Neither of which are usually easy to ascertain unless you know the owner and/or there’s a recent good log.

I see where many of you are coming from on the “great experience” (the hike, the view, etc.) versus numbers.

However, the way I see it if I wanted to go hiking I would go hiking. When I am geocaching I want to find a geocache. Many multi’s (that I have done) have lead to finding initial containers but never finding the actual cache (usually due to my inability to find a geocache). Whereas if those multi waypoints were traditional caches I would have potentially found one or more.

I am a huge fan of placing multiple caches (and puzzles…) to “bring a cacher around to certain areas of a park”. However this could be done with multiple caches (or a well laid out puzzle) too, not just a frustrating multi that may or may not be well-maintained. For example, my “In a rut” series could have been 1 cache but based on my opinions expressed here I chose to put out multiple caches.

Not trying to debate, just adding a little more to my answer since there were so many recent responses inidicating the opposite of my opinion 🙂

It’s not all about the numbers for me but when I am geocaching, I like to find geocaches (lot’s of them) 😛
