Another helpful tip that I learned when placing my cache series “I’m in a rut” was to also get in contact with the homeowner’s association if there is one for the area.
In my case I actually needed their permission to place some of these caches but in doing so, they also alerted ALL of the homeowners in the area for me π As well as alerting their maintenance staff (volunteer teenagers mostly) who do trailside maintenance where the caches are all hidden.
These particular caches are on a VERY residential, blacktopped trail around a subdivision that passes very close to many houses but everything is “on the up and up” there and so far it seems to have worked well. Also, I stated this on the cache pages which probably makes the searchers feel a little more comfortable when searching on a trail that gets heavy use from the homeowner’s there.
None of us like giving the “what we are doing speech” but I find that directly meeting muggles in the area while hunting is a much better approach than trying to be “stealthy”. Especially in these “residential” or small park areas. Being stealthy makes you look suspicious. Trust me, I am far too suspicious looking from the get go π
Ask s|s sometime about appearing suspicious…

Congrats Frizz!!
Saw 2.15 today 11/7/2008 in Appleton and couldn’t beleive my eyes.
I make it a “goal” to try to find a cache each time I travel away from home (be it for work or play). This makes each trip a little more exciting than it would have been had I not discovered geocaching. It’s great to get out and see more of the area you are visiting rather than just sitting in a hotel room and watching tv or sitting at the relatives house and watching tv.
I don’t really have much of a goal as far as numbers. I like milestone finds though.
Here are the cheetah girls:
Our older cheetahgirl wore a handmade costume made to match the dog costumes:

The younger cheetahgirl wore a very fitting costume:

congratulations!!! π π π
don’t let it go to your head…
There was always a map as far as I know on the success page. However I think they use the google map functionality and I heard Google updated their mapping (API) functionality not to long ago which also “broke” the geocaching.com maps for awhile too.
Geochecker also had updates and improvements recently. The new issue was most like “timed” with those updates…. I don’t use safari so I am not much help.
That is pretty cool!!!! π
What are the odds….
I found the enamel joke rather humorous…
I bought one for the kids. I think they will enjoy this coin.
Excellent job to everyone involved!
Congrats!!!
I didn’t see any snow around the Fox Valley. Though the 43 degree rain sure was yucky on Sunday.
Let’s hold off the snow for another month. That would be good with me.
Congrats!
maybe they are duplicates….
i’d call it a “feature”
