dethroning Dave on the Lonely Cache Game for March?

    yes

in reply to: cheeto climbs to 500 #1886525

Winter definitely slowed me down a bit. However, my competetive drive has pushed me to pickup up my finds just a bit more. 2 more months until my 1 year caching anniversary. Time flies! Thanks to marc & K0rpl for the push I needed to get me to this milestone and helping me with some tough finds I have worked at before. I hope that if I would have fallen out of that tree you would have at least made sure I was okay. 🙂 I think it’s in the WGA creed or something. “Pry thy fellow cacher from the ground if they fall out of a tall tree.” Yep, it’s there. What I’ll do to log a cache…

yeah, i beleive I read before that on your WGA profile page you need to put in your GC.com username and the link to your profile page. it has picked up my out of state caching.

Thanks very much for the informative response Jeremy! That’s the info I was looking for.

OK, so who all will be camping this year?

Is there a formal process to requesting and getting space for camping at the event?

There are a bunch of people with various responses to this thread and others but could we or do we have a way of indicating our intentions a bit more formally than this?

    Thanks

    Shane

Please know that I was not picking you out specifically Dave. I was just curious what others felt about logging replacements as a find in relation to the lonely game.

I discsussed this with another area cacher and he said that the initial rules were not clear either way so it seems to go either way.

I would probably log it as a dnf but that’s just me.

Kid Approved is kind of neat and could come with one of those “approved” stamp like icons…

Aw man, so my KFC – KFC cache idea won’t “fly”?

    Just kidding…

in reply to: Kid Friendly Caches #1885960

gotcha on the chesters… just had not heard the term before.

by the way for those following along, I was referencing chester as in chester cheetah. now I have an additional point of reference on the term. I learn something new every day.

did not intentionally try to derail the thread. this really is on topic 🙂

KFC has grown on me as well.

I have not heard the term “Chester” before and am not aware of the context of it’s use…

yes I get to play with a several thousand dollar GPS unit almost every day for my job

but does it do a better job of finding tupperware in the woods?

    No Chesters In Area Cache

    hey, I resemble that remark…

It pains me to know, for example, that -cheeto- has 10 hours into Espagutti and hasn’t asked for any help. But then, that just the way some people play. They want the complete solve and if that’s the case they have to live with the frustration of solving them solo. Their reward is the great feeling of accomplishment when they finally do make the solve. When -cheeto- does solve that one he will feel really good about it. This I know.

man, there’s all these signs out there telling me to resume working on that one again…

I’ll tell everyone about this and why this one for me is the ultimate puzzle cache.

I am a research nut. When a new puzzle cache comes out and is a research cache, I solve it. Half the solves I don’t even keep and lose and don’t even go find the cache. I solved every one of the Simpson’s trivia caches as they came out in the valley and I knew almost nothing about the show at all. I used all sort of tactics, some of them I won’t even share. I was helping fix new cache listings and never hunting them.

As many have elluded to on many posts and threads here, there are many types of puzzle caches. For me, Research one’s are top on my list.

This cache seldom speaks of is for me the ultimate research puzzle. I started at ground zero. I have never in my entire life watched nor do I know anything about a western movie. I know nothing about the names of the actors in any of these movies (nor actor names in any movies for that matter). The perfect research subject is one you know nothing about! I even saw one of the movies sitting on the shelf at the video store and will probably rent it and watch it before I make the find…

This is a puzzle cache that is not cryptic. You won’t spend days looking at it each day and thinking about it and nothing comes up. You know exactly what you have to do when you read the description. (by the way, you will think this s|s guy is absolutely nuts if you read the cache page)

Research. Gathering data. Putting it all together. Organizing. So for me, this is “the cache” that’s out there waiting to be found and when I find it I will be smiling. Even if it’s a magnetic keyholder at some dead-end road. (I wouldn’t be surpised if it was)

Will I ask for help? Maybe… but that’s part of the game yet to be decided on this one. Don’t misunderstand Seldom’s post. I do ask for help and I do “phone a friend” on some caches sometimes.

Everyone has time for what they have time for in their lives. I have drastically cut back on my time spent related to geocaching from when I first started. It was a sprint from the starting line and now I am running more of a marathon. Had I kept sprinting, this specific puzzle cache would already be a smiley. And a smiley is very appropriate for when I do find this one.

I already wrote a “novella” related to my opinion on puzzle caches in these forums. However, I will say that as I watch the new one’s come out (especially in the Greenbay area, man is that area exploding with new caches lately!) the variation and creativity continues to grow! Ignoring them simply because they have a ? icon is simply “a crime.” If they are local, read them. Don’t just ignore them… Who know’s maybe the subject will interest you or you will know the solve. If it’s a medical puzzle as zuma elludes too, you might be the perfect cacher to easily solve it and grab that ftf. Or if you are like me and long since forgotten all things about the medical field, you may have to do some Research.

Now where did I put that spreadsheet…

I have now modified one of my current caches to Recognize the new KFC designation and added some Educational content to the page. Check it out: GC13RN5 KFC – Rocket Slide.

New KFC caches will come later, but this is the direction I tend to take with the educational content. This page was written with my 9 year old son in mind.

For those of you that have already visited the cache location, this one represents what Kid Friendly is all about and the New cache page content is carried through to the location. And for you parents out there who have not visited keep in mind that if you bring your kids to this cache you will be stuck here for awhile 🙂

My title is HRIS Technical Manager.

I manage a team of developers and analysts that implement and support Human Resources and Payroll computer systems. My specialties are Peoplesoft and Kronos. I am a working manager which means that I also design and program as well.

What this means is that I am personally responsible for approximately 8,000 or so people being paid correctly.

Been in “IT” 13 years. Before that I was a nursing assistant for 3 years working in nursing homes and rehab units.

Today is my 1 year anniversary with my current employer after my prior employer was bought out and I was dumped out with the company trash. I couldn’t be happier with the change.

My career minimally impacts my caching. Knowing HTML helped when it came time to start listing new caches. The “techie” side of me drew me to Geocaching in general. Oh, and my work Internet access allows me to post on the WGA message boards and my work cell phone receives the new cache listing emails. I travel a bit so I get to log dnf’s in other states from time to time on the company’s travel dollar. And I guess my project management skills will help with planning Geocaching events.
