I’m not waiting for anything… I think we might get down to the Racine one. Would be nice to get down there for a bit of caching. My wife’s family is from Racine.

I am going to add the designator to 2 of mine and work in a bit of educational content into both. One related to space exploration and the other based on mushrooms. And the next couple I place will definitely follow the theme and have the designator.

    Excellent idea Hemi.

I think Greenbay was a great suggestion… (not Lambeau but the general location) any additional thoughts about it eh?

I “second” marc’s comment (minus the bit about HIS park)

in reply to: Please explain WGA events #1885835

yes please… as I consider going to the campout and have never been to a WGA event thus far I need to consider what might happen at a campout event. will the whole family have things to do all weekend? any non-caching activities taking place?? we figure in may it’s not warm enough to swim so that pretty much leaves hiking on trails and activities related to the event. What typically are those activities? Thanks to anyone with responses!

Which I see by looking back Mr. Greenthumb you have not visited my PU, What a Stinker lame cache, how lame is that????

Either have I… but I logged that I did. That’s even “lamer” (is lamer a word?)

This event definitely has my interest… I might even get to find that lame stinker cache if I find myself in your neck of the state.

Would you be willing to Archive, put up for Adoption or substantially alter 10% of your caches?

Archive is probably the most likely. I certainly will archive caches that are not well received, cause issues with their surroundings, are frequently muggled, etc. That would certainly fit into this “yearly cleanup” activity.

And further, I am always open to cachers contacting me about cache placement altering and/or help as I would expect other’s to be as well. If you are planning something, let other’s know. You don’t need to keep it all “top secret”. If you have a great spot picked out and a theme and all that, just shoot that cache owner (who’s got a cache near your prime spot) an email and engage them. You never know what will happen until you do! You might just find out that that cache owner was thinking of archiving or changing that cache anyway. It’s going to get to a point where this will have to happen or the general level of quality will certainly go down.

I am unaware of any areas in the state where saturation is a problem

I don’t think you have spent a lot of time trying to place a new cache on public property in Appleton….

The only problem that I might run into is if it’s too close to an existing geocache listed on one website. Thank goodness there’s more than one website listing caches.

I have read your comments on the alternative cache listing pages with interest but I am not exactly sure that going elsewhere just to work around the .1 listing rule is such a great idea either….

Interesting topic s|s…. I am interested to watch the responses unfold.

In the case that someone in the group is going out to grab one that they never even looked at, I would hope that the others in the group would at the very least, let them in on the puzzle and it’s intricacies.

In the end, I’m not the cache police. What cachers do and how they do it is not going to change because I want them to. There are going to be people who give things away, and there are going to be people that just won’t go get a cache unless they did all the work themselves. Whichever the case is, my best hope is that cachers at least give credit where credit is due. If you had help with a puzzle, say so in your log. If you went with a group, say so in your log. If you broke my puzzle, please report it.

I love this response. It’s probably some of the best common sense I have seen on this thread to date. 8)

And I could add… “If you phoned a friend, say so in your log”.

This response is about showing the cache owner respect which is crticial to the future of geocaching. Without cache owners wanting to place quality caches (puzzle or otherwise) and wanting to maintain those already placed, you don’t have much to go hunt now do you?

Everyone will probably agree to disagree on the main topic of this thread (puzzle cache tours) but I bet you everyone agree’s that showing the cache owner a bit of respect can go a long way!

Even if you admit you did not solve the puzzle, giving feedback on the puzzle (did you like it, was it ingeniously creative??, did you loathe it?) or feedback on the hide or SOMETHING, or ANYTHING will encourage the cache owner to continue to better that cache or make new ones. This get’s back to one of Alex’s original comments made. PLEASE log your opinions. Positive or negative.

And if you found way too many puzzle caches today because you were on a tour and you cannot remember my cache when you are logging then maybe (just maybe) you should take a step back and examine what makes geocaching fun. (or maybe I should stop placing caches…)

Just make sure it’s a low point one… don’t want to draw him to one that will boost his standings.

    ooh, pick this one:

shackles on the bed, and chair

no, strike that.. the cheese vat tub sounds even better…

A suspended queen-sized swinging bed hangs from the rafters by chains, 300 gallon copper cheese vat tub,

that place sounds like it’s worth the price of admission! 🙂

    Congrats Dave!

Now there are some good stories out there about his Jeep TB Hotel.

Like the time when I went to find it (Before it was actually a Jeep TB Hotel) and the final was muggled and all the criminals left was parts of a gun and some other strange (potentially stollen) items in it’s place???

Well you could add Menasha, WI to the address anyway…. Or mail it to me and I will get it to him 😉

in reply to: winter friendly caches #1885599

I also add details about whether you should attempt to find my caches in the winter or not with a “Winter Friendliness” blurb (in a uniform blue font) on each cache page. It doesn’t refer to # of inches of snow, but on some of them I have posted notes and continue to watch them to make sure they are still findable with all this snow that’s piled up this winter!
    Think Spring!

I actually participated in a bit of bow fishing in my teenage years. Used to go after carp. There are not a lot of gar around these parts but there are a TON of carp. Same idea.

We had a blast doing it…

    Thanks for the memories! 🙂

I would have removed the phone number before posting on a public forum but that’s just me.

Interesting reads all day. I have experienced a bit of this as a puzzle cache owner and am not really fond of it but everyone plays the game differently. If they miss out on solving a puzzle themselves it’s by choice that they missed out on a big part of the game.

I admit it.. I once logged a puzzle I did not solve. I was fully aware of the puzzle and how it was solved Before the hunt and it was very creative. The puzzle was much more interesting than the painted ice cream bucket in a bush in a parking lot. I wish I was as creative as this cache owner is! However, doing this on a single cache versus a whole day’s worth of finds that I did not solve are different things altogether.

I do think a better way of going about this is to come together and go hunt caches that everyone in the group has already solved or worked together to solve if that were the case.

Out of respect for the cache owners out there with opinions like those shared in these emails I will respectfully decline the offer. Thanks for asking though!
