I have only visited 1 earth cache so far but I have read up on many of them and followed threads on them.

    Question on Earthcaches…

On the guidlines from Earthcace.org says – “EarthCache sites must provide Earth science lessons”

Do Earthcaches “HAVE” to be about Geology? or can they be about other aspects of Mother Earth and science? Things that come to mind: Areas of Biology – Botany, Zoology, Bacteriology. Chemistry. Meteorology. Physics. Farm Science.

The one I visited was about polution and cleaning up polution which has nothing to do with Geology. However, many of the one’s I have read up on recently are all about Geology.

    Any comments?

Keep up the great work everyone! From what I hear, Earthcaches Rock.

I love the whole idea as proposed…

    nope, I hate accounting

I shared that latest one.. I like it 🙂

    Dom Nizza,

Are you a message board/forum junkie? Do you have a mission to post on as many varied message boards as possible or something???

    – North Jersey.com
    – Helpful Gardener.com
    – Discuss Pittsburg Live – Food and Drink
    – My Community News – Ridgewood
    – Post-gazette.com – Pittsburgh, PA
    – and now Wi-geocaching.com

You are all over the internet! not just on message boards… and it seems you have had this addiction for quite some time! It seems that in a brief bit of searching, I found out all sorts of things about “Dom Nizza” aka Type Writer Guy…

So what drew you to the WGA Forums? Do you know what Geocaching is? Ever been to Wisconsin? Do you know how to pronounce Oconomowoc?

Your posts are interesting but how you got here is even more intriguing…

I had a PQ take a day and a half for the email to get to me (it was generated right away) Was weird. The joys of technology!

had to look that one up…

You need the Palm software installed on the PC to do an actual HotSync “Thing”. GSAK places the output file for the Palm in a spot and then launches the HotSync Install process to install it on the Palm. The HotSync install process is a piece of software you install.

I am speaking from my experience which is with a slightly newer palm than the palm 3. I bought a tungsten w off ebay (actually I bought 2 of them..) The keyboard on that model is what drew me to it (and price)

I just went through learning all this stuff as well. Never once attended a “paperless caching” seminar or anything like that. I am just a techie nerd who likes to play with gadgets like this.

My last 2 cache outtings, I used a palm with Cachemate on it… Worked like a charm. Never even owned a plam or a pda before.

feel free to start a recipes (or whatever) thread and post away

again, the thread would get buried soon. could some recurring topics that we want seen all the time be flagged as “Stickies” or whatever to keep them up top?

I understand that forums should not be filled with categories for posting as it becomes un-manageable but at the same time, if a thread like these get’s pushed down half the page even, folks will forget about them. If they are at the top, maybe it would spark interesting new posts from time to time that others are interested in.

Feel free to debate pros and cons… I just think that recurring themed threads are much more condusive to conversation than folks posting new threads in “Offtopic” and then it getting lost and a similar subject is started in a new thread later.

Marc, why are you always anti everything?

    ❓ ❓

    I would submit to a cookbook thread…

And a cacher dog thread. My new puppy has gone on a handful of cache outtings now. He is a hunting dog and leads me back to where we started every time (along with finding his way back to each cache we visited). I just need to get him to find them for me in the first place! Still working on that one…

Everyone always points to “offtopic” when people suggest things like this, but a single thread in offtopic get’s buried very quickly (especially now with all these picture posts from the east coast). If there is a spot for things, they don’t get buried and people then use them more.

    just my thoughts.

For those who are local and looking for the one I mentioned that starts in Appleton, it’s Giz’s Stereoseldomitis – GC11ZNW

It’s basically a traditional 3-part multi only the middle part is way over “there”…. Both parts here in Appleton are “winter friendly”

You might want to do both at the same time. Just sayin…

    in reply to: April CITO’s 2008 #1884925

The Appleton CITO event is now published on GC.com

    GC19PTZ – Let’s Cleanup Jones Park – Appleton CITO 2008

I will continue to monitor this thread but will be making event updates on the cache page now.

Hopefully everyone will be able to make it to some of these events to help cleanup our area parks and trails!

please note that this subject was double posted and that there are responses on the other posting…

oh and by the way, there is one that goes the opposite direction to and you can work with the same california cacher… it starts in Appleton and goes back and forth.
