Well, I didn’t get one for Christmas but now I am getting one 😀
Hip Hip Hooray!
😀 Happy day for me 😀
isn’t that the hodag?
I’ve participated in an office league using ESPN’s stock car challenge in the past. I was horrible.. it seems you have to follow Nascar extremely closely every bit of the way to even do “well”. The occasional fan won’t do real well if you are not well versed in which tracks each of the dozens of racers does well at and all of the history behind those races and those drivers. It does add a bit more excitement to “watching cars drive in circles for hours”… However, it’s usually the wrong kind of excitement. For instance, when over half your drivers are out of the race early on that can be very hard to recover from using your other selections. Not even a first place would recover you enough when someone else has all drivers finishing (even if they place like 15th, 20th, 35th, etc.)
If I remember correctly, the ESPN stockcar challenge was like “buying” on the open market. You had so many “points” to work with and values of drivers went up and down each week. So you had to think through your “team” selection very carefully and making a switch for one race was tough and sometimes painful because you might want to choose someone for that race but they are so “expensive” the rest of your picks just suck. And once you gave up a “low priced Jeff Gordon” or whatever, you often could not get them back. (bad example here just bear with me).
Our office pool threw in money (off the record here…) and each week there was money handed out for the top finisher and for the top 3 finishers at the end of the “season”.
I checked their page and there’s no mention of the 08 season as of yet. However, there are some threads on their boards regarding start dates of a new challenge year.
Just thought I would mention this alternative to the yahoo one. Still not sure I am interested because of not being as dire hard of a fan as it seems to take to do “well” in these fantasy sports…

… and it would feel like your first geocaching experience over and over every time! 🙂
that assumes people were able to solve the puzzles to go looking marc…
🙂
racoon’s done eating now…
Yes, but shopping at Menards now comes with the added avantage that you can pickup that replacement part for the toilet you need and also grab a gallon of milk and some dog treat…
No kidding, I did this last night. Who would have thought, a gallon of milk at Menards!
Back to the topic at hand… enquiring minds want to know, how did you explain your 1 and a half hour trip to Home Depot to your significant other? Couldn’t make it out of the power tools section again huh?

Congrats!!!
I’ve always wondered about what it would be like to try to continue a streak like that. I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been… probably a much easier feet for someone newer than someone who had already found many in the area they live and work in already! (which I would assume you fit into the latter much more difficult category).
There’s no way I will ever be able to do something like that and to you guys and all the other cachers who have maintained long caching streaks, I salute you!
All around a big congratulations.

Question on the rules and what I see on the scoreboard currently:
Related to this rule:
c. You post a Did Not Find, Needs Archiving or Needs Maintenance after an unsuccessful search and the next log is from the owner to Replace, Disable or Archive the cache, whether you have previously found this cache or not.
Score: Terrain + 1 pointThere are DNF submissions for points where I do not see a followup post from the owner as of yet. Should these not be submitted for points until the full requirements for the points are met? For example: there is a submission by zoesbrother like this (not picking on him specifically). Just trying to clarify the rule for everyone participating because it says one thing and there are points allocated saying something different.
Just pointing out something I see, not whining. I don’t have any points at all 🙂
You should have waited a day! It was a “lonely cache”
Definitely sounds like a challenging cache.

I am not a huge fan of the caches in the middle of a store parking lot but I will do them anyway if I am in the area. One thing I will say is that caches I have placed that are in high muggle traffic areas are the least-liked caches and get the worse response from the caching public. Think about this when you place new caches… People like to be a bit hidden from the general public when looking around for some itty bitty little nano. Some will even avoid caches because of their location and proximity to the general public. There’s a place for urban caching just like there is for 2 mile in the woods caching and a fan for every type, but most people seem to not enjoy being watched while looking for a cache. At least that’s what the logs tell me..
I am just a sick and twisted guy who likes to test cachers to see just where they will go to find a cache 😈

No Just frost bite,
micro’s frozen in blocks of ice
avoiding snowmobilers
and all those cross-country skiers…
Is there ever a muggle-free time of year?
Care to share a frozen beer?
Don’t head out with out 4 by 4
If the snow comes down hard, take it slower…
Dont forget your cell phone
You might just need it to get home!We are all crazy and hunt the elusive cache
no matter the conditions! So brush aside that fresh layer of snow
cover your tracks before you go!
If you want to have even more fun
walk around in large circles before you are done.Have fun out there, the time couldn’t be better
Just add an extra layer, wool socks, and a sweater!Happy Winter Caching everyone.
I now have a multi-tool I will carry with me while caching… (received as a gift today) I found myself having to pry micros loose from frozen blocks of ice on saturday and the pliers would have been handy at the time!
Flashlight is always handy. Bug spray in the summer is a priceless item to have on hand.
Nope, Dan was certainly along for many of the recent finds including #1300.
It’s tough to keep a young man interested when they are pulled in many different ways at that age. My oldest falls into the same category. He has many things to preoccupy his time. Not everyone is as addicted to caching as Dave so to expect Dan to be along for every find is pretty silly. I wouldn’t even want to cache as much as Dave does… Dave is like the energizer bunny. I think he has more energy than my 5 year old on Christmas morning 😀
However, when a family team comes together to participate those are some of the best times and most memorable. That is why many cachers choose to bring along the family or their son/daughter for those milestone caches.
Congrats to Dan and Dave.
Oh and one more interesting story from that same get together…
So my inlaws decided this year that for the “large gifts” (you know, the one’s too big to wrap, traditionally called blanket gifts) they were going to wrap small strange items with a note that says “This _____ can be exchanged for one blanket gift”.
So towards the end, I opened what was to be “my last gift”. It was in fact a paper clip in a box with the exchange note inside. However, upon further review, there was to be no exchange.
You see, they wrapped too many of these and accidentally gave me an additional one. So I received a paper clip from my inlaws as my “best gift”.
The irony of the story is, my daughter received an electronic journal that records her voice to open it. She just couldn’t decide what to say! Wouldn’t you know, it required an object to press the “Reset” button way inside it to record a new password! Dad to the rescue…
Moral of the story, sometimes paperclips make great christmas presents.
Lesson learned by the in-laws, make sure you don’t go overboard with the “exchange this for..” presents. You might run out of stock. Can I ask for a raincheck?
