I’m going to start organizing the committee shortly so if there is anyone else that can help out with this years Campout please let me know via PM or post here. Thanks!

As part of this year’s revitalizing of the WGA committee’s, the WGA board will be setting minimal goals for the committees to achieve in 2011.

For the Community Education committee, we will be setting a goal to organize and execute Geocaching 101 classes in each of the 5 regions of the state.

You will see more on this in the board meeting minutes, but I mention this here in the hopes that we can get more volunteers for the community education committee to help us with these efforts.

If you are a teacher or trainer by trade, we would love to have you on our team. Also, if you like organizing community events or have ties to your community that would help in getting these organized we would love to have you join this effort.

Having these classes throughout the state will help the WGA achieve our mission and also help bring in new Geocachers and new members of this great organization.

And if you can’t tell by this post that I’m excited, let me be the first to say that I am excited to be on this committee this year and look forward to some great accomplishments.

Bumping for the Webmaster, and suggestion that the Announcements and Stickies be cleaned up as much as possible, so we can see other new threads as they are added.

Zuma’s new post is so far down the list, it’s off the screen and buried in the keyboard. 😆

Maybe a ‘collapsible’ option would help.

    Thanks!

p.s. Webmaster, please delete this note…………..

I did a little minor cleanup of the post “types” to help get the old stuff off the top and move up Zuma’s officer posting.

Taking off my board member hat. All that follows is my own opinion and commentary and not the opinion or position of the WGA board of directors.

I think that the MN puzzle day event where puzzle cache owners can choose what to “donate” to the caching community in terms of hints, big hints, solutions, etc. is a good idea. Especially in areas with high puzzle cache “density”. I think an event like this would help not only the cachers who want to solve and find the puzzles but also help build interest for placing and finding puzzle caches and draw in out-of-area cachers that have probably already logged many of the traditionals in a puzzle-dense area.

This idea is much better than handing out the solutions to someone else’s puzzle caches to others.

I also think events that teach puzzle solving “techniques” and give donated (or archived) examples is another great concept.

I really have no personal stake in this as a cache owner anymore as I have archived or adopted out 99% of my puzzle caches. The other 1% I would gladly donate hints and/or solves if an event like the MN one were held nearby.

I just wish everyone could act like adults and respect each others (known) wishes as a community. The event organizer in this case has proven time and again that will never happen. Such is life, which is calling me back.

P.S. One more comment on puzzle caches in general. I just hope that new cachers in my local community and throughout Wisconsin find out for themselves what caching is for them and that there are some rewards beyond their find count. It’s not always just about finding a geocache. That’s whats so great about this past-time!

Just shared this same topic on Facebook (without knowing you had done so here!)

I just ended my longest at 106 days between caches.

To be honest, I was so darn busy during that time I didn’t miss it all that much.

And I’ve learned over the years, I’m just a fair weather outdoor enthusiast. I’ve tried Hunting, Fishing, and Caching in the winter and I’m just not a big fan of winter.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our Terms of Use posting:

Discussing the topic is fine, let’s just remember that everyone does have a right to their own personal opinion and all should be respectful of those opinions.

As an FYI, the event organizer is no longer frequenting the WGA forums.

The GC.com page format is also very stable and well known / defined.

Not really. While they may “look” the same, the underlying page structure changes relatively frequently.

This is why Greasemonkey stuff breaks after just about every site update which is monthly. The site used to be much more stable but recently they’ve changed a lot.

    Coincidental?

I’m not well versed and IANAL but the “sore spot” may have to do with the use of that particular software violating Groundspeak’s Geocaching.com terms of use.

    Google is your friend…

Seniority goes out the window. I was talking with a school administrator yesterday, and he told me that an administrator from another district had told him that, if this bill is passed and he needs to cut teachers, he will cut the ones with the most seniority, because they get paid the most.

In the salaried, non-unionized, private world, seniority doesn’t mean much either. Especially during acquisitions, mergers, and down-sizings.

I can see both sides of the fence from here.

My health insurance is more expensive than a state of wisconsin employee’s health insurance and I get less insurance for my money. I put my own money in a 401K account for retirement. I am employed at-will and can be terminated at any time. If I had cheaper, better insurance, free money at retirement, and a group to fight for my employment “rights” and was about to lose all or some of those things I probably would be upset too.

I think it’s horrible that over 200 teachers in my kid’s district called in sick yesterday. However, I’m not sure how they can make themselves heard if they’re at work teaching.

I won’t comment on the politics.

Keep in mind that if you archive a cache and hide another one in the same place bringing people to the same spot, regardless of how “worthy” the spot is you will get some sorta “negative logs” like “been to the cache that was here before” kinda logs. Usually the type that complain are the number hungry cachers who clear the map every so often (at least the ones who don’t copy and paste log)

The only preventative for complaints is to do something new and unique with the spot so that it doesn’t matter it’s the third time you’ve brought a cacher to this particular set of coordinates.

Or put on a flame retardant suit and not care what other people say.

It’s your cache so you can do what you please.

    “Intercepted by…. WHO IS THAT???”

“He was just taking up space on the field…” or something to that affect.

That was classic FOX coverage at it’s best.

However I should point out that I dont think that one’s views on Challenge caches or the amount done either qualifies or disqualifies anyone from being a part of the WGA Board.

The point of my question was not to do determine “qualifications”. Some questions are put out here to help all of us get to know the candidates better since we don’t all know everyone.

Thanks to all the candidates for sharing your personal viewpoints, experiences, and stories.

    Please carry on…
