I think the best place for you (and anyone else who is unable to access the WGA website via time warner road runner internet service) to seek out help is with your Internet provider directly.

We have one board member Team Black Cat who is volunteering as an assistant “Webmaster” but he certainly is not in a position to troubleshoot internet connections. There is no known reason from a webservice perspective that a service provider would call out the WGA site in a blacklist or blocked site list. If a service provider tells you otherwise, please contact a board member so that we can work through that but until we learn more about what the issue may be at your local provider, there is not much we can do.

I also noted that many of the Cemetery caches have ‘WSQ’ in their name. What is the story behind that?

Here’s some history on how WSQ came about: http://wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5421&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Johnny – thanks for digging up this thread. I don’t think I ever read this one and found it interesting to see how the designation evolved.

My truck has the commercial stickers on each side.

Many people retrieve rather than discover. Especially after the west bend event each year.

If you want to log trackable stuff not related to the cache page (like discoveries) just start here: http://www.geocaching.com/track/default.aspx

It’s interesting that the profile setting seems to default to a time zone that Wisconsin is not in.

At that point you simply have to step back and appreciate the game for what it is, a very fluid ever-changing, never-know-what-to-expect experience, rewarding you primarily for what YOU got out of it. So, if you solved a D5 and no one else did, you still solved a D5. I know, I’m speaking to the choir, soloist actually, who finds himself telling me this same thing quite frequently 😉

This hits home with my perspective.

The cache owner is free to do what they want with their cache. Everything built around that (challenges and what-not) does not have to be of their concern. If they choose to be concerned about it then great but do not assume they care about your challenge grid.

I once built a puzzle cache based on other people’s caches. Actually I built 3 of them. Won’t ever do it again. CO’s change cache names, sizes, locations, difficulty, terrain — you name it, people will change it.

It’s a game. Don’t let it be anything other than that…

This has happened in the past. I believe Groundspeak gets a zipcode/coordinates database from a 3rd party source (probably purchased) and they most likely updated this data during the recent site upgrade. I can say that I have seen this come up in the Groundspeak forums more than once in the past after a site update.

As far as relying on this to be “accurate” data, I wouldn’t.

in reply to: Deer Hunting and Caching #1938809

Just a little FYI, one of the recent years I was caching during gun deer season and I stopped at a “safe” caching spot (at least according to this post) — a cemetery outside of Brillion and when I pulled up I saw a bunch of blaze orange posted up IN the cemetery hunting the surrounding fields. So it depends on where that cemetery is…

I won’t be hunting. Gave that up a few years ago. Caching is far more exciting.

I guess this should go here.

It would be nice to try and educate the department on geocaching. You could show them the logs on the http://www.geocaching.com website displaying peoples enjoyment of finding this cache for good various reasons, however now it is tainted. I guess to make this short I am disappointed with the logs posted after the cache was disabled. I know that is geocaching.com and not this website but some are members here, those comments are not going to help out any situation like this. ❓

I enjoy geocaching and want awareness and membership to grow. I just don’t like see things that might taint it. If stuff like this happens in the future you just have to try to help them see the reason we do this, otherwise just walk away. You’ll never “make” anyone listen or understand if you insult them.

    Thank you.

    well noted.

TKKS if you do pop back in here to read this, you do have the ability to clean up those logs. the Delete log function works wonders and I don’t think anyone would be offended if you deleted their NOTE especially if you tell them why. (I have a feeling that they all have read this thread though too.)

tkks – Another thing to keep in mind is if you do end up archiving the listing, you can email Groundspeak to lock the cache page so that no further logs can be submitted. Just making sure you know all your options as you consider what to do.

Folks, as you think about posting additional notes to this cache page, just remember that tkks is the owner of this listing and to please respect the cache owner in this matter. — this is me talking, not the BOD.

in reply to: Tag Backs #1937713

Sweetlife is working with the vendor to get the tag back in place so that you can add it to your pathtags. Watch for an update here on when it is ready for use!

in reply to: Tag Backs #1937712

This motion has been approved by the Board of Directors:

Whereas many WGA members have interest in making Pathtags and have shown interest in a custom WGA tag back.

Whereas, the 2010 WGA Pathtag sale was extremely successful.

Whereas the 2010 Geocoin Committee has reviewed this program and recommends that the WGA board move ahead with the Pathtags back program.

Be it resolved that the WGA move ahead with a new Pathtag fundraiser program allowing anyone who orders a Pathtag from Pathtags.com to place a WGA back on their tag rather than a generic Pathtag back. There is no cost to the WGA, only to the Pathtags.com customer ordering their own Pathtag.

Be it further resolved that Barry Butrymowicz (sweetlife), a member of the 2010 Geocoin Committee, be the WGA’s point of contact with Pathtags.com for creating the custom back.

Pricing details on the tag back program:
It would be .10 extra per tag for a total of $10 on a order of 100 tags, with 100% going to the WGA.

    Initial Tag Back Sample Artwork:

I’d like to extend a personal thank you to sweetlife for bringing this program to the attention of the WGA board.

It’s great to hear that folks are out there trying to educate law enforcement on this past time. It makes it that much easier to participate for everyone.
