To say there is little to no value is surprising, especially coming from board members. If you all take the time to actually read most of the cache pages, as I do, you learn a great deal of information about the particular state, national park, movie or whatever.
It’s great that you are getting some education from these series cache writeups and some exercise.
Thanks for misquoting me. I never said there was little to no value. You did.
I was commenting solely on the nature of the caches hidden every .1 along a trail. I have not done any of the caches in question and was responding to to someone else who mentions that not every one is a notable placement.
My vision on quality is that everyone get out of caching what they want. If finding a cache every .1 along a bike trail is your thing then that’s cool.
Eventually there will be no more room for these new trail series caches and hopefully cache owners who maintain them well for years to come.

There are 45 of them placed so far. The particular placement of some caches was well thought out
So what you’re saying is someone put a whole bunch of caches along a trail. Some are good and others are just padding the numbers.
I have not done any of these major “series” caches that keep getting nominated for cache of the month that are along these trails but this is exactly what I suspected about each of them. Some memorable caches and the rest there just to make the series look big and fill in the spots along the trail that are “missing a cache”.
Everyone can play the game as they want but in my opinion our goal in placing a new cache should not be .1 from the nearest cache to it. The proximity rule is a minimum and not a goal. While the guidelines have lapsed slightly on powertrails (they introduced the word “please” to indicate it’s a preference and not a rule) the intent is still there. Many of these “series” caches should be multi’s not large groups of so-so traditionals placed to increase find (and hide) counts.
No dis-respect towards the placers of these powertrail series is meant in this post. It’s just my opinion on the “fad”. The existence of the powertrail series and the larger powertrails (like the ET Hwy) do not affect my life as I will probably never do them so I just am observing from afar. There’s no harm in placing a cache every .1 along a rails to trails bike trail. But there’s probably not a lot to gain except for numbers.

Not quite true. Just the OT is premium only.
Dunno… I see this cool, new Feedback area as time spent that could have been spent on the main site. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone asking for a Feedback tab. The forums have collected all the same info for years. All the same topics, too.
I’m really not impressed. Sorry.
😳 Oops, for some reason I though it was premium members only. Perhaps I was confusing it with not available if your not a member. It disappears from the list if your not logged into their forums which probably had me thinking it was a PM thing.
This is a third party site that they just incorporated. I doubt it was a big dev effort to add.
Actually I see new ideas I haven’t seen on the website forums and people have more intelligent discussions about those ideas. I guess I just have rosy colored glasses on…
w00t, #9 now 😀
For those of you who might be unsure of what this thread is about, there is a new Feedback link along the left side of every geocaching.com page.
If you click on “See and rate more ideas” it will take you to the “main page” of this new feedback site.

You mean you’re supposed to put them back? I’ve been keeping all the ones I find 😆 Just kidding, no need to send out thugs with lead pipes. I’ve had a little trouble with one of my caches: GC26ZHN. Where I placed the cache, it is actually plainly visible, if you know what you’re looking for. By moving it 2-3 inches the view of it is totally obscured. I’ve had several people DNF on it, including veteran cachers, because the last finder didn’t replace it the same way they found it. I didn’t intend for it to be elusive, I intended for it to be quite findable.
You joke about it but I’ve seen it. New cachers who think you find it and take it with you.
Also seen someone who thought you could rehide it where you wanted.
Depending on how people learn about geocaching and how much exposure they have before hunting caches what can happen can vary and nothing is too foolish. I learned about it on my own so I’m just glad I did my homework so I didn’t look foolish when I started 😳
What’s so great about this feedback feature is that people are engaged. They are indicating what they want in an interactive forum and getting responses from Groundspeak. You have their attention. Why not do something with it???
Please use this opportunity to speak your peace! You may never have this type of opportunity again to help shape geocaching.com.
I also love that it’s available to all not just the premium members. The current website forum is only available to premium members. Speaking of the current website forum, this new feedback mechanism seems to have also broken down the barriers a bit. In the past if someone went to the groundspeak forum and posted an idea they were blasted by a select group of “forum regulars”. What you have now are many more people chiming in. Many of the forum regulars are off in the forums complaining how this new feedback thing sucks and how to use greasemonkey to get rid of the link to it. Meanwhile real ideas are shaping and being discussed openly “over there”.
The software has it’s shortcomings but it’s light years better than the groundspeak forums. For instance, a response to a post cannot be picked as one of the best points so if you want your response to float to the top post a new comment, not a response.
Another thing to note is duplicate threads abound. Many ideas are spread across multiple threads. It appears someone is joining them together but I imagine that’s a slow tedious process. The search feature is useful at preventing this.
Since someone else mentioned that I’ve been active in there, please check out the “Most popular” ideas and click “Like” on my built-in geochecker idea. (shameless plug). It’s almost #9 😉 Still awaiting a response from “the company”.
Jeremy Irish mentioned he would be on the show on his facebook page.

However, there is the other side of it… Someone wrote “Found it. Hint was no help.” Hint was “six feet up.” Then I got an email from them telling me I should change the hint because they found it on the ground and that is where they left it. The cache is a matchstick container with a hanger on it AND a little fake pine branch glued to it. I could understand if they didn’t put it back exactly at 6 feet, but to leave it on the ground????
LOL…..As you may have noticed, it is not a requirement that one pass an IQ test prior to starting to geocache.

That explains it!
I’m amazed at the number of people who do not put a cache back where they found it.

I think the ‘satelite’ option on the cache page map is interesting. I zoomed in to one of our WSQs and GZ is in a row of pines. You can actually see which tree, as well as which SIDE of the tree, the container is on. If it wasn’t a micro, you would almost see the container!
This should make Muggle B’s GPSless life easier! 😉
As long as the cache isn’t in the 100 acre woods.

My family camps in a pop-up trailer. Are the sites there typical state park campsites that can fit an average sized pop-up and vehicle?
Yes. We see pop-ups there all the time, plus larger campers. No utilities and no pull-throughs, though. Sites are all wooded ones. Most are pretty level.
Thanks! That describes typical state park camping so that’s cool. 😀
We might just camp then. I regretted putting away the trailer fairly early last year so this gives me an excuse to keep it functional. I remember thinking last year we could have camped well into October and still been comfortable.

They also switched the Feedback link to the left side of the page. Some complained it was covering content on the right.

There is a reported problem in their feedback area:
The new attributes “Truck Driver/RV” and “Field Puzzle” can only be added/changed for cache type “Traditional”! It doesn’t work for “Mystery” and “Unknown” (where it would make much more sense). I haven’t tested other cache types.
and a response from Moun10Bike:
Thanks for reporting this. We will address it.
Per Moun10Bike about an hr ago:
This issue should be fixed now. Please let us know if you see any problems.
Some may notice the WGA store link is active again. We are still working on the final details of the store setup so orders are not being taken just yet on the Geocoin presale and pathtags sale.
Watch for a sale launch announcement soon!!
