Today is the last day to get in your designs for the Geocoin Design Contest!!
A wise man once said, every rock pile deserves a cache. Or something like that…
I’m actually sort of a fan of caches in rocks. Especially when caching with my family. Of course, they’re not winter friendly or available in winter most of the time but during the other seasons.
Pine trees make me break out (which I never knew before geocaching) so I tend to not spend long on pine tree hides. Circle a couple times and then move along.
I tend to think not every cache is (or should be) easy. We hunt a cache. Some should be hard to find. Some should take return trips to find.

I’ve found myself in unfamiliar cities and when I select the next cache to find, the Nuvi will route me into a residential cul-de-sac. The cache will be in a park that is on the other side of the houses but because it was closer to this street, the GPS takes me there.
I hear you there…
One of the battleship caches is hidden in a rather large park with what appears to be no main entrance or parking. Navigator takes you to the typical nice house culdesac maze bordering the park. Drive all the way around the park and never did find a main park entrance or parking area. Moved on to the next cache.
While it is part of the challenge, some cache owners don’t always realize that not everyone is from “their area” and not everyone has been to that park before. This thread is a good reminder and if as a cache owner you want your cache to be found lots of times than adding parking coords or trail-head coords is a great idea! If you want it to be a challenge and not be found as much, let people continue to drive to dead ends and circle those parks. 😉
I agree that part of geocaching is finding parking and finding how to approach. However, if approaching incorrectly means unknowingly trespassing or causing damage to the surroundings, as responsible cache owners we should be posting parking coords and/or trail-head coords.
People will always knowingly or unknowingly disregard a cache owners wishes. If they continue to do so and it’s damaging the surroundings or causing known trespass issues, perhaps it’s time to adjust the hide or archive.
I’ve only visited one WSQ that I thought was borderline inappropriate in all that I have hunted.
I am not going to point fingers just say that I agree with others that we should respect our surroundings no matter where we are geocaching.
While I won’t comment on exactly where to walk in a cemetery, I do tend to navigate through a cemetery in a respectful manner. Not running in a bee-line to ground zero but walking on paved roads, paths, and along the rows observing my surroundings and respecting them.
If you are offended by a cache theme, name, placement, etc you have the right to contact the owner and express your opinion. Even post that opinion in the log if you want others to know how you feel.
End of day Friday 4/16 is the deadline for all submissions for the Geocoin design contest!!
