This would be the only type of post or question I could contribute to the candidates corner and Buy_the_tie has already offered up this posting which sums it all up! A very familiar posting that I too took to heart just 2 years ago.
I know this is not the place to speak if you’re not running but I’d like to just add something coming from a parting board member who has experienced being on the board just as “Tie” has. If someone want’s to delete my post so be it 🙂
Jim… when you note the following:
Thank you for your expectations of an elected Board Member!
It’s not just his expectations. I also ask each of the candidates to please place these expectations on YOURSELVES when volunteering on the board of the WGA. I took these same words to heart when I volunteered to be on the board and never forgot them.
It’s not about attending WGA events. It’s about running them. Putting in hard work while others are attending and having fun. It’s about actually being there from start to finish. Offering to bring things. Be there early. Sweep the floor. Do the heavy lifting.
Attendees will take and take and give little. They will complain that the freebies aren’t good enough. The food is cold. The “games” or prizes are unfair. They will have ideas on how it could have been better but not actually volunteer to help make things better. Other board members will stay home and not help out because it’s too far or they are too busy. Be prepared to be disappointed in others and how volunteerism really works. These are the realities.
Please give it all you got. These events and this group need everything you can give plus more. Without volunteers this group is nothing. There are no events or website without those who help out for no pay and very few thanks. It will be a thankless job that does consume your free time if you put into it what you should.
Seeing this group running is the reward.
Cherish the good logs, the smiles, the thanks during CITO cleanups from strangers, the friendships, seeing new places as you travel to the events. Those are your “pay” for being on the WGA board.
Thanks for volunteering to help out this great group and I wish you all good luck on the election.
I got a tshirt that says Geocaching is what happens when nerds go outdoors and the book First to Find.
I tried “capturing” a munzee that happened to be 3 feet above a geocache I recently found in Pennsylvania. The munzee app apparently needed to be updated (or so I was guessing) and it wouldn’t scan the game piece for points or whatever you earn for “capturing” these. I wasn’t about to update the app in the field on a limited data plan. I’ve had the app loaded on my iphone for a long time and have yet to actually scan a munzee or hide one.
Why bother caring about if someone signs the physical log?
I’ve never deleted another cacher’s online log. It’s not my find count and it doesn’t affect the cache at all. In fact, if someone chooses not to log it just means the log has more room for others who do sign each find.

No matter. Most phones have browsers that can visit full websites anyways such as this one.
My iphone works pretty well with our forum. Especially useful is the New Posts link in the left-hand menu.

As of today, there are about 19569 caches in Wisconsin, with about 100 new ones coming out each week. That means, sometime in December Wisconsin will go over 20K caches.
woot
zuma
So did you find them all yet??
It was a wonderful afternoon at Bubolz Nature Center in Appleton. Labrat_Wr and I shared Geocaching with many families. Some had heard of it before. Some kids had learned about it in school or through scouting. And some we’re excited to learn about it for the first time.
Thought I would share a few pictures from the Romp in the Swamp event for everyone:

Look at the long line of folks waiting to hear about Geocaching!! — just kidding, they we’re actually waiting for the Hayride 🙂
The “West” Cleanup Team
The “East” Cleanup Team.
Thanks to everyone who came out and helped cleanup! It sure is sad how much litter piles up in 6 months.
It was a wonderful sunny day. In fact, probably our best weather for a Hwy cleanup yet.
See everyone in the Spring!
Bump!!
Make sure that you bring your own gloves if you want/need them. We have always listed that but brought gloves just in case. We’re pretty much out of usable gloves at this point so make sure you bring your own.
See everyone on Saturday!!
I’ll be there.

1 is plenty
I think it’s important to the hobby to give back but at the end of the day there are already far too many geocaches within a maintainable area around my home that there is just no need for me to place caches anymore. This probably isn’t the case for everyone on these forums but I’m sure it is for some.
I think it’s up to the cache hider to decide if they like maintaining caches or not and they should “do the right thing” if they find later that they do not which is to pull their caches or find cache owners who will maintain them. For those who like to maintain caches, I don’t think you can put a number on the limit they should be able to place.

The CITO was a great time. I saw this in the Baraboo paper.
Never thought of a Travel bug as an “encoded device”. Really makes me wonder how accurate the rest of the news is that I hear.
Well it does have a code on it. And it could be a “device” of some kind 😉
3 more days to cast your votes!!
Congrats!!!
