I have some caches I would like to adopt out rather than archive.

Zeroes to Heroes | Gaylord Nelson – GC225ANMy Historic Neenah series is spoken for.
Good to see your Historic series is spoken for. Also very fitting that the tributee of the Zöe Bro Coup cache series got that one. But, shouldn’t 2 ol Farts have been handed the reigns to Gaylord a while back? Or did they not follow through as my partner did not on the final?
They never responded to multiple inquiries or the adoption request.
Zeroes to Heroes | Gaylord Nelson – GC225AN
has also been spoken for.

Hmm… I like the concept! I really like the idea of having our state bird on the back and “Deet Me!” is too funny.
I’ll take a stab at it for you and see if it matches your idea. It might be a couple of days…
TBC – FYI, koolma_k sent me a hand-drawn scan of their design. I can forward it to you.

Sorry for being partly responsible for your hectic milestone planning..
Very nice stamp!

If anyone is working on a geocoin design, even if you want to keep your design a secret until you submit it, please post a note in this thread so we have some idea that there are some submissions coming. Thus far, no finished (or unfinished) designs have been submitted to the submissions thread. The BOD listened to the ‘do you want a 2010 geocoin’ poll and decided to mint one. Now we need your help in the design. We had great ideas come out of the contest in 2007 and I know there is talent out there.
It doesn’t need to be artistic talent either, coming up with a great idea is talent too. If we can match up an idea with an artist, the skys the limit. Thanks Pete.
Please submit finished (or any unfinished) design ideas that you would like considered for the contest vote to geocoin2010 at wi-geocaching dot com. They will be posted to the submission thread for all members to be able to see the submissions. All you have to do is email the design image(s) as an attachment in an email. We’ll handle the rest.
Remember, even if you just hand draw the design and scan it in, we can work with that to produce a geocoin. The Wisconsin cow geocoin design contest submission was hand-drawn.

when it was clear to me that folks were not getting out of the puzzle what I expected, the cache lost value for me….
Well said.
In the last day I have had individual cachers thank me for my efforts and plead for me to not do what I had done. These are the folks that did see the value.
They enjoyed that “a ha” moment when they found that one sign on calumet street that they just couldn’t spot for months. They enjoyed reliving their childhood years playing the atari video game system as they learned more about it. I am glad they got out of it what I would have wanted to get out of it — if I was the finder. That makes me happy 😀
I look forward to hunting caches in the spots I have freed up. There are many creative cachers living in my area that are putting out some great new caches. It’s time to enjoy them and stop maintaining tour stops.

I would like opinions on this. I had solved a 4.5 star puzzle cache. The last person to log had a DNF. I emailed the owner letting them know that I was going to try for the find and had asked that if it was not there if I could replace it. The reply was that the trees had been cut down and there is no place left for the cache. The cache was only a micro. I looked with bing maps and see that there is a street light about 8 feet from GZ.
I had put a lot of work to solve the puzzle and had even met the owner a few times. The last time we meet I let him know that I had solved it and was going to make the grab soon. Never was it mentioned about trees being cut down.My question is this.
A. Would you just ignore emails and archive the cache?
B. Would you place a temp on the pole then archive?
C. Would you have meet me at gz so I could make the find?
D. Would you have said something about it at our last meeting in Feb.?I understand that things happen and caches do have to be archived, but in my opinion, if a person emails me and says they have the solve and I knew that the cache was gone for months, but had not yet archived it. I would have worked with them in some way or the other.
Please give your honest opinion.
Cache owners sometimes do things you might not understand, agree with , expect, or would do yourself. A cache owner does not owe the finder an explanation of what they plan to do. It would be courteous but you’re expecting just a bit too much in your described scenario. Don’t expect cache owners to do exactly what you would do in a certain scenario. In most cases, You don’t know what you don’t know and that’s okay.
Given the scenario you present, I would just throw the solve into the solved pile until the cache was found, maintained, or archived.
Warning, off-topic post but s|s dragged me in here.
The day I learned of a list of my puzzle solves being shared with others was a disheartening day for me.
Play the game how you want everyone says.
Well having my puzzle cache solves handed to others is not how I want to play the game as a cache owner.
I am glad many have enjoyed what I have created and my sincere apologies to those of you who have solved my puzzles but not had a chance to log them. I have let you down. Hopefully you can still respect me and what I have given back to the geocaching community.
I am not leaving the world of geocaching nor am I archiving all of my caches. I’m just going to focus my free-time on what matters most.
I wish Alex all the luck in finding good homes for his creations. I’ve enjoyed many of them and would not trade those experiences or what I’ve learned from him for anything.
I ask one thing of those putting in their requests.
Please only adopt caches that you can feasibly keep maintained. If they are not within a normal travel pattern or near your home, please allow someone who can keep them maintained adopt them or if you feel attached somehow and want to own them, make sure you find a “trail boss” who can do maintenance for you.
I will save any other comments about this for later.
That’s double what I found yesterday. Congrats!!
I’m using Firefox 3.6 on a PC with Windows 7 and I have not seen this type of behavior either. Perhaps it’s an Internet Explorer specific thing.
Shane
I hereby give full rights to my cheese block shaped like Wisconsin idea to anyone who can design something and cheezehead can take as much credit as can be extended north of Hwy 64. 😉
I have no artistic talent and have no urge to actually submit an idea but it would be neat to see this one up for vote…
I am not an artist but I’ve been tossing the idea around of a coin that looks like it’s made of cheese. I just think it would be neat to have a Wisconsin shaped cheese block for some reason.
Not really related to geocaching but neither is a cow.
