    a gps? 😀

in reply to: Do you like to watch? #1914066

8 caches on my watch list and 2 trackables.

Here are the caches on my watch list:
Camelback Cinema | The Passings of Mr Pink (remove)
    Dark Knight | Super-Serums (remove)
Innervisions | Up the Rabbit Hole (remove)
Pareidolia 🙂 Big Smiles Every One (remove)
Phenomenal | Solid, Liquid, Gas… Plasma? (remove)
Start Yer Yakin’ | Backwater Banter (remove)
Start Yer Yakin’ | Join the Club (remove)
Tributary | Exploding Cheeto’s Inevitable (remove)

As to my rhyme or reason to my watch list, it’s mostly curiosity. I am always adding and subtracting from this list so that’s why it stays pretty short.

I also look at the recent logs on our WGA site a couple times a day which satisfies the voyeur in me 😉

    Congrats!!!

Being an engineer / programmer makes me wonder if we should devise a new metric. Something similar to the LCG except we should include a logarithmic scale to give more credit for higher star ratings. A S|S cache might be the equivalent of 20 driveups (or more).

Take a looksee at this example: http://dgpstats.com/info/aboutchallengepoints.html and the stats tracking page: http://dgpstats.com/

What’s interesting is the “Effort Avoidance Theory in Geocaching” that is applied in this example.

Sounds like it certainly adds a different twist to the “game” for those folks that participate in this.

Very similar (though much more complex) than our WGA LCG.

Applying an additional bragging rights/competition/reward system on top of the existing boring smiley count…

    Interesting concept really.

So then they made a typo in their username 😛

I find it interesting that Groundspeak seems to recognize the importance of these tools by apparently purchasing the domain name of one but not incorporating the function into their primary “product”.

It sure would be nice to just have a puzzle checker built into the publish function. Radio button for checker Y/N. No HTML to code. No additional steps. Just choosing whether to include it or not in the cache page. Perhaps even at the waypoint level if a puzzle has multiple points to “check”.

To dream the dream of a puzzle cache creator…

FYI, This has happened in the past…

I believe Groundspeak “owns” the domain name if I am not mistaken and/or took over some portion of ownership on geochecker.

It came back after a similar error within a day or 2. I wouldn’t jump to changing everything just yet.

Thanks to all of you who congratulated me on this wonderful milestone find. And for those of you who noticeably did not… 😛

When I tell others (non-addicts, non-cachers) that I’ve found over 1000 hidden items with my GPS most can’t believe that…

    Then I tell them I’ve hidden almost 100 😉

The memories and places I’ve visited and sights I have seen are what make this activity worthwhile. The great people I’ve met along the way are icing on the cake.

    Here’s to a thousand more!

I have the etrex vista hcx and heavy tree cover is a problem for me.

I have this same exact unit and I can get a signal just about anywhere…. tree cover does not seem to bother this unit all that much. Have you had other units to compare it to? Ever try a magellan? 😉

For instance, I was at the cache bash and inside the old courthouse for the meet and greet sitting at a table I had a signal.

I know this doesn’t help with the question posed but the “hcx” properties of this unit make it far superior to others in getting signals in “heavy cover”.
