I didn’t think that gc.com let people fiddle with their cache pages like that though.
you obviously haven’t seen Firefox’s Grease Monkey scripts for geocaching.com then…
Yeah.. was starting to check it every day…
cachers who do nothing but screw cache owners over…
Saw your post before I stopped at the park.
There is a better macro for the Nuvi than the pilotsnipes one.
See my post on this thread: http://wi-geocaching.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=9368
The 255W model is currently priced at 149$ at American if you have one of these around where you live. I paid much more than that a month ago. It’s a wide screen and speaks the navigation and allows the custom POI’s. I would highly recommend this over the cheaper 200 series nuvi’s.
I put an SD card in the 255 but so far, the internal memory has been enough for every PQ that I have loaded to it. Of course I clear out prior database files from it that I won’t use again (like 1 time trips to wherever). The “near home” database of 500 caches remains on it with plenty more room for additional trip PQ’s on top of that without even needing the SD card capacity.
As I have said before, using the Nuvi has totally changed caching for me for the better. Especially in areas I am not familiar with driving in.

Congrats!!
That’s the only cache our family did not do in that park when we went their camping in early June. We did all the rest. By the sounds of it, it was a good cache for a milestone.
From what I understand about “private messages” on the WGA website, they sit in your Outbox until the recipient as read them (at least that’s what I think is happening). They don’t actually get “sent” anywhere as they never really leave the website. Though I believe they may produce an email to the recipient if they choose it but I don’t use any feature like that (I’m on all the time..) Perhaps the issue is on the “other end”. Maybe the recipient is not opening or their browser is not flagging it as viewed?
I am sure Jeremy could speak better to the way our site is working but perhaps you could send me a test private message and I will read it and then see if it stays in your “out box” or get’s moved to the “Sent Box” after I read it…
I can grab this on my way home from work tonight… I will let you know if I find it there.
Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that I am using an older (read: not current) version of GSAK at the moment: 7.5.2.27 is what I am currently using.
I highly encourage anyone doing this to try the macro I mentioned above rather than the pilot one. You can put them both on and compare… The “nearest cache mode” or whatever they call the alert stuff is much better as in distance from you actually works and it supports multiple databases and splits up the caches by DB then by type of cache automatically. And someone is still developing it.
I guess I lucked out in getting this all to work. I set it up just over a month ago and I haven’t had issues.
I use a macro called GPX by cache type that I have configured to run under a button on the toolbar called Nuvi.
Here’s the geocaching.com forum topic that I found pointing me to the macro. It’s much better than the pilotsnipes one and has new development still going on:
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=195389Works like a charm with my Nuvi 255w with the Garmin POI loader.
Boating & Fishing yesterday.
Cookout and Fireworks Today.
Daughter’s Birthday party tomorrow.
Happy 4th of July everyone!!
Didn’t miss it at all. Family went to the lake to visit relatives. Spent all day yesterday on the water.
Knew it was down when I left yesterday and still down last night but I didn’t do any caching the last few days to miss it.
Now it’s time for a cookout and fireworks!
My browser is acting like geocaching.com is not even valid rather than “they are down for maintenance”… that is weird. Maybe they forgot to pay their domain bill..
Usually when they are down for maintenance they now show a message about visiting the forums. However, their forums are under the geocaching.com domain as well.
groundspeak.com doesn’t load either..
interesting time to be down.
Congrats!!
that should get more Geocachers in the area
First of all, congrats on the great news article!!!
Second, you hit the nail on the head. In a roundabout way, the newspaper is what brought me to geocaching so articles like this are bound to produce at least a few new players.
