Most geocachers will never know that this change has happened. Very few read the GS forums and fewer are active in this forum. I couldn’t guess how few or how many actually read the guidelines. Word your suggestion carefully and I’m sure the vast majority of finders will fulfill the task.

I actually agree 100% with TBC. That’s why I removed one of the notes on my caches and carefully worded the new description on the only other ALR cache I owned. I wanted to make it sound like something fun to do with the cache not make it sound like I was ticked off at Groundspeek. Especially considering the ALR cache I owned was a KFC (Kid Friendly Cache).

I understand the frustration but we probably should not “take it out on” those who will never even understand why…

As I ponder any of my recommendations, they will be of the “local” variety. I like Olive Garden, but those aren’t hard to find, LOL.

Same here.. if you see my suggestions in NE WI so far they are local small business places. I for one, still support the small-businesses out there whenever I can. What’s the point of recommending a burger king or subway or taco bell when there are 15 of each around my house? I am sure that’s not exactly what a visitor from out of town is looking at the boards here to find 🙂

Their fancy navigation GPS’es can take em to the nearest fazolis, olive garden, or old country buffet. I’ll point them to places you might not ever notice if you’re from out of of town and let them know what you might expect of the place.

I still have many more to recommend in my neck of the woods…

Thanks for the posting and clarifications for everyone Dave!

As for Alex’s points, I think everyone will still enjoy choosing the right water to pour into the fountain in menasha (which I still look forward to doing), they will still enjoy dropping bouncy balls off a bridge (and hopefully not losing them all like we did!), and look for the invasive “alien” species, and draw their rendition of the Oracle (mine was made of cheetos), and photograph cool grafitti, and record their memorable moment on the phone call (which I have yet to do).

I say, continue to put out new caches that would have had ALR’s and just make them interesting suggestions. One of the points made on the huge thread on geocaching.com is that the requirement should be interesting, fun, and so worthwhile that the cacher feels like they WANT to participate. I think yours do that s|s. No need to switch gears on what you are doing over this. Your intentions are much better than the few that ruined it for all.

I might be inclined to drop the well rounded if that’s the case. It dilutes the value for those who log it as intended.

If your well rounded cache is a challenge cache there is no “dilluting”. You can still require the challenge to be completed. At least that’s how I read her post and the guidelines. It does not sound like they intended to “dillute” challenge caches.

However, it sound like adding more challenges will be frowned upon… not that I was going to make anymore anyway.

I fell short of being a jerk and logging one of marc’s 900 series that I already signed and didn’t have a picture.

I think for Marc’s series we should all act like grown-ups and perform the now “optional task” so that we enjoy those caches as the owner (marc) intended. They’re still a neat idea regardless.

Of course if you follow marc’s puzzle event advice, go ahead and log them now without the pictures. 😛

There is a followup that says Earthcaches and Virtuals are not impacted by the change as they do not have physical caches to find. Nor are Webcams.

Now that is funny… Don’t you love how “we” have plans, ALL THE TIME. 😆
