Hey all! I’m just starting out, reading everything I can, and deciding what GPS model I want to get. Can’t wait to get started, but I might just wait until the snow melts! Anyone near the Ferryville/Desoto/Prarie du Chien area? If so, how is the caching around this area? Doesn’t look like too many…most seem to be in the Eastern side of the state.
But hello and Gooo Greenbay (we just beat the Rams!)!!Welcome KimInWis. Glad to have ya on board. You are right, your section of the state is a little underpopluated in caches, but the ones that are there tend to be in really great places. Hopefully, after ya find a few, you can correct the problem of not enough caches down that way.
As far as which gps to get, opinions will vary. I have an inexpensive Garmin LegendC, and it is impossible to bust the thing, and I have found a lot of caches with it. Hard to go wrong buying a Garmin, any Garmin. If ya have a few more dollars, the Garmin 60CSx is a good choice.
As far as cachin in winter, the snow can make it tougher. But it is great to be out in the snow hiking, so I would start right away, if I was you.
Have fun,
zuma
Kim, welcome to the addiction, I mean game. I started with the LegendC and up graded to the 60SCx. I have never used any other brand so I will not bash them, but Geocaching.com has it set up to download cache waypoint to Garmin units.
For anyother question you came to the right place. Someone lurking in the boards will give you an aswer for your needs.
Ya see, up “Nort” ya, 95% of dem caches are on hunting land. Wedder it be county, state or fed. If ya goin’ in da woods around’dere, ya had bedder be thinkin’ it be a huntin’ ground.
Dem nobrothergoodinlaws from Illinois can stay in Illinois!

I’m sure this has been brought up already in this thread but I’m to lazy to look…. anyway I have two caches that were placed prior to the DNR notification form and was wondering if I should or need to submit a form for my caches?
Yes, you should.
Well, it looks like it updates about every 4 mins or so. So earlier logs would have been posted when you posted…..if that makes sense. But I could be all wrong here too!
Kudos from me also. Tie was very instrumental in get some caches along the St. Croix Scenic Riverway approved with the NPS. He also helped me out with a few of my hides. Now ya can get out and cache Brian!! Thanks for all that you did!

Bec
Thanks for the link. Sometime in the near future, I ‘m to go in front of our local Library BOD and ask them for permission to place a cache on their property(spankin’ brand new location and facility!) I will print a few of these up and hand them out.

Thanks to Beadelake Crew and GpsJunky for organizing another great event! We had fun and enjoyed meeting lots of cachers from both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
DITTO!!
It was a great time.
Started snow around 10 am or so. I just opened the deck door and stuck a ruler in the snow. 8.5 inches so far! That more snow than we got in Dec., Jan and Feb. last year!

if you look up Phantom Cacher’s profile, there is a pic of the coin.
He/she must be a Phantom cuz I can’t find nottin’!
I plan on being there! My plan is to cache way way over there. Anyone else from the boards attending?
Well, all I have ever used was Garmin products. But my first GPSr was a blue Etrex. If you look, you can find the yellow Etrexs for under 100 bucks. JMO.
