Ticks will land on you cloths. They will fly through air when the wind blows. Nothing 100% will take care of them. But the stuff will help.
I’m sure there will be ticks where ever you go.

in reply to: How do ya transfer tracks to a 60CSx data card? #1875684

I use The Garmin Topo program so there in .gdb format.

I did find the little box that ya check if you want new tracks to be saved to the card. I do not see how you would even save tracks that are on the receiver to the card.

Out ticks are soooo tuff up here that sometimes that stuff does not help.
I sprayed that on a pair of jeans that I wear when out in the woods and I still and ticks on them, but not as many. It does work pretty good thou any other time.

That is that caches can not be placed on NPS property or in the boundaries
of the river way….for now. There has been some cases of cachers getting fined for doing so, but I have been trying to work with the local NPS office to see if this can be changed.

I do have a location in mind and a few other, I’ll will try to get that info posted as soon as I can.

One cool idea might be to have caches along the Namekagon. You can tube down the Namekagon, near the KOA and the KOA even rents tubes and goes down to the other end to pick ya up. Nothing is finer in the heat of summer than tubing down the Namekagon. Just an idea. Perhaps lame, perhaps not.

Looking forward to other alternative locations that Cheezehead can suggest.

NOPE-NODDA-CANT-YOU CAN GET A $150 TICKET. YOU CAN NOT CACHE ON THE RIVER OR NPR PROPERTY!!!!!!! More late, getting kicked of the puter.

For those interested in what kind of caches are around this area, the zip code is 54843 for those who would like to do a search. Maybe I could have my murder mystery cache done buy the time this event could happen.
Here is a link to the search page.

Yes, I was thinking of Eau Claire, but if ya have something in mind up in Hayward, that would be cool too. What camp area would you suggest?

I have camped in the KOA in Hayward, and it has a nice pool, but not much of a natural setting.

Well, it all depends if it were to be a camp out or just a picnic/day event.

Other than the KOA, there is not to many other campgrounds in Hayward.
But there are a few smaller State and Federal in the area around the Drummond and Clam Lake areas, including Flambeu State Forest, Copper falls State Park,Amnicon, Brule.Patterson parks.

There is a nice little campground near Ojibwa off Hwy. 70 too.

I’ll compile a list of all the campgrounds in the area.

I think that if there was an event in this area(and I do not mean it has to be held in Hayward) that you would draw people from the Duluth and Ironwood, and Ashland areas too. And there are campgrounds around the Siren/Grantsburg area too, but I do not know that area all that well.
Maybe Elf doctor could come up with a few names too.

It’s getting late, but I’ll post some more info soon.

Has the idea of having maybe 2 picnics ever been discussed? One for the southern part of the state and one for the northern part.

    in reply to: Lyme’s #1875368

I friend of my grandfather’s, who was an avid outdoors man, had Lyme’s for 10 years be for the diagnosed it. His whole personality changed.

I do not remember why, but for some reason, they ran the test, cam back positive. They started treating him and in 2 days he snapped out of his 10 year funk he was in. He was reclusive, didn’t want to out in public. He had stopped hunting and fishing and just moped around. This from a guy who was a State Forester for 30+ years. His last few years of living thou were good to him. He died at the age of 89 or something like that.

Just pull it out, but mack sure you get all of it.

Not sure, but maybe we are in between waves of them. Was out 2 day ago and pulled a hundred of me and the dogs. Was out tonight and pulled of just a few.

in reply to: What, me obsessive? #1874580

Well, I like to hunt and fish.with pheasant hunting is southwestern Minnesota being a new passion the last few years.
I also sit on the local chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society, so that keeps me busy also. My goal is to make a map of all the local came trails in the area. With so much County and State land up here, well, that’s a lot of trails. And yes, that gives me a chance to hunt for new place for cache hides. Usually, my days of from work, I’m out with my Geo-Trio pups GPSing trails. I also like to dabble in photography and am/was an avid reader. John Sandford is my favorite. He is the only writer I’ll buy in hard cover. Winter Prey is my favorite as it is set up in this area in Sawyer County, but in the book it takes place in fictitious Ojibwa County I believe. I also enjoy cooking, camping and canoeing too.

The best thing to do is go to the local court house. Most have a big county map of the plat book. Can also check witht the mapping dept.

in reply to: New Gps’r- Venture Cx? #1874893

Just a note, Dad and I were up at Gander Mountain in Duluth today and he bought me an early birthday present. A CPS Map60CSx!!!

He applied for a Gander charge card and was able to save 10% on his first purchase. List price was $499, marked down to $449- 10% = $400.

They also had a Map 70csx for $399. It was hard for me to choose which one, but the 60 just felt better in my hand.

Not sure how much you want to spend. They also had the new etrex legends but forget how much they were.
