  • in reply to: Anyone cache at all this weekend? #1770810

Well, I attempted to do some caching, even took my snow brush with but just too much snow. There had to be at least 24 inches of new powder.

My little Abby and a tuff time getting through.

My big Rusty didn’t have it so easy either.

I guess I’ll just have to try these again in a few weeks.

Even wearing my snowshoes I was up to my knees in snow and I’m 6’3″.

Was just a great day to be outside thou.

When you go to the “Report/edit cache page” you will see a line that says”Background Image URL”. There is where you post the link to where your picture is stored . I use Photobucket for an example. It’s pretty user friendly, at least for me, but there are others out there too.

The dogs and I went out today and got a DNF. Somehow when I download the cords, they got screwed up in my GPSr. So I was never even close to where is need to be. With 9 inches of fresh powder, it made snowshoeing fun. I thought I had the right spot cuz everything seemed to fit. Oh well. Next time. Also a reminder. When clearing snow away….Remember to put your GPSr somewhere where it WONT GET BURIED IN SNOW!! 😯 🙄 I found it thou! We are to get another 8-16 inches in the next few day. That should make things fun. This being my first time caching in heavy snow has me rethinking some of my hides too. Most of them should be OK thou.

Ok, not knowing ANY pat of the river, I do not know if this would work, but how about just a float trip kayaks or canoes. I like the race idea too. Kayaks and canoes! I have 2 canoes!

Been working fine for me all day, thou I did have to restart the puter.

in reply to: Time to think about warm weather!!!!!! #1769704

Well, I spent the coldest day of the winter in front of the puter looking up some little know Wisconsin fact as I am starting to get prepared for a set of cache series’s. Also looking over a few maps and notes for some future cache sites. So what I’m trying to put together is what I would call a 3 part, multi-mystery-puzzle cache series. You more or less will have to find the puzzle, then the code, then the cipher, which will take you back to another set of codes to find the Final.

Speaking of cold, last week I downloaded the coords. to a cache that is on an island near a local lake. So I have the coords in my GPSr,look at the map, look at the plat book to make sure I take the right road. I load up the dogs, grab the 2 TB’s I wanted to drop off and head out. Oh ya. it’s about -3 or so but I’m dressed for it. I drive a bit to find a place to park. Find a spot that is not to far from the lake. We head out across the lake. Wind is blowing pretty good but we keep a trompin’. It’s about a 3/4 mile hike or so. Have to go around another island to get to it.

I look at my GPSr and noticed that the way-point looks like it;s in water. I don’t think to much of it as I was doing some recon earlier in the week and my GPS said I was on water when I was on land. Thinking the same thing here. Get around the island and we are getting closer to the spot.
We get to the spot, within 2ft as the GPSr says and there ain’t nothing but ice. I look around, there is land 20 feet away or so. I start looking for a geo-beacon or tracks as someone else was out here just a few days ago. Nothing! Walk all the way back to the truck, drive back the 15 miles to the house and hop on the puter. The coords listed and the coords on the GPSr are different. I know what you are thinking, coords must have been entered wrong and re-posted. not the case. For whatever reason, they just downloaded wrong cuz even the map was different.

So I did not log this as a DNF. If it warms up Tuesday, I’m gonna go get that dang cache even if I freeze my butt off!

Heh,heh. “Thanks for visiting, now leave”? Absolutely no harm intended 😀 . We’d be interested in sharing funding on this one. Looks like a fun idea.

    Now that’s Funny! 😆 😉 😆 😆 .
Can I use that for the visiting MUD DUCKS we get up here.

I think the coin look great.

I think they are doing what they where intended to do. But the northern boards will not get hit as often just because there is not as many members in these regions. Somewhere, someone ran the stats, and they where very low membership numbers for the “North”.

in reply to: Question for the Membership: Did you read this? #1768855

Yes, I am trying to keep up but it is starting to get confusing. Is it at all possible to set up a couple of sub-boards? Give BOD nominee profiles there own space and questions their own? With it be all lumped together it might get confusing for some. Also how about sticking all the questions so the don’t get lost in the shuffle when responses are made?

I was very honored when I got my notification for the BOD. But at this time, I could not give the WGA the attention it deserves. With my job, building a new house, my wife’s flower business and trying to start a family, plus being on the local RGS banquet committee, my time is already spread pretty thin. I do what ever I can to help the WGA in this area. I would like to at some time hold some sort of camp-out/event up here.

So thanks again for whomever nominated me. Sorry that I could not fulfill your request.

Well, I will not be able to make it. I’m the picture guy for a friend’s wedding that weekend. Looks like a great place thou.

Actually, you do need to be a WI resident to be member, but this does not prevent anyone from participating in WGA activities.

Think of it like this- by having only residents as members we are able to easily tell agencies such as the DNR or other land managing bodies that we have “X” number of WI tax-paying members who are active within the association. Numbers such as these have meaning to governmental organizations.

Not gonna buy that. There is also a thing called tourism, which geocaching is a part of. As for the DNR,why do non-resident have to pay extra for hunting and fishing licenses. Do know how many Twin Cities folks are in norther Wisconsin on the weekends? Do you know how many people from the Twin City region have cabins and 2nd homes in this area?

in reply to: Bomb scares, police, etc #1768163

I agree with this. Can WGA send out some sort of information via email or fax?

I talk to the local Chief of police here and let him know and plan on talking to the Sheriff..

The few I have run into around here held up ok, but where harded then heck to open. There was a suction holding the cap on. They were painted black and blended in good.
